During a private speech at MIT on Friday, former President Barack Obama praised his own administration for “not having a scandal that embarrassed us,” a comment that was taken as a veiled jab at the current occupants of the White House.
“I know that seems like a low bar,” the former president cracked. “Generally speaking, you didn’t hear about a lot of drama inside our White House,” he added.
Obama spoke for about an hour to an exclusive audience at a sports policy conference in Boston, where strict restrictions were put in place to keep his remarks off the record. All attendees — including the media — were barred from live streaming or sharing photos and video and other content from Obama’s appearance on public platforms, the Boston Globe reported prior to the event.
During and after Obama’s panel, “photography; video recording; streaming; and social media posting, including on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and other platforms” were not permitted. Those who failed to adhere to the policy were “subject to removal from the conference and denied tickets to future SSAC conferences.”
“The first rule of seeing Barack Obama in Boston is don’t talk about seeing Barack Obama in Boston,” the Globe wrote.
But someone apparently didn’t get the memo because Reason managed to obtain an audio recording of the closed-door speech.
In addition to the passive-aggressive jab at the Trump White House, Obama also ridiculed climate change skeptics, according to the audio (available below).
“I can’t have that same debate with somebody who just holds up a snowball in the middle of the Senate chamber in winter and says, ‘Look, there’s no climate change because it’s snowing,’ which happened by the way. I didn’t just make that up,” he said, referring to a 2015 speech by Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.).

How very Obama-like to engage in passive-aggressive attacks on political opponents after leaving office. And how very Obama-like to suggest the current occupant of the White House is plagued with scandals after his administration spied on Trump’s election campaign and opened an investigation on him in an effort to prevent his election or — if need be — provide an “insurance policy” that would hamstring and embarrass the White House after his election.
This from a the president who managed to weather “without too much drama” such scandals as missing stimulus money, the Sestak affair, DealerGate, politicization of the National Endowment of the Arts, DOJ settlement slush funds, Operation Fast and Furious, the firing of Americorps IG Gerald Walpin, the IRS targeting scandal, ObamaCare lies, DOJ spying on journalists, Benghazi, the Pigford scandal, the NSA spying scandal, the EPA Gold King Mine spill, the GSA Las Vegas scandal, the VA death list scandal, Solyndra, shutdown theater, the State Department whistleblower scandal, the Taliban Five/Bergdahl trade, the Iran nuclear deal and ransom payment, the skewing of ISIS intel, EmailGate, mass spying on Americans, and unmasking Trump associates, thanks to his adoring fans in the MSM, who have spent every day since January 20, 2017, attacking President Trump.
