Former U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Joe DiGenova Monday evening said that the FBI was going through the worst time in its history and predicted that a federal grand jury would be convened that was “not going to be pretty.”
DiGenova blamed former FBI director James Comey, outgoing deputy director Andrew McCabe, and everybody else at the senior levels at the FBI for this “disgraceful moment for the bureau.” He added that after working with the bureau for over 30 years, the fall from grace of the people working there “truly saddened” him.
“Make no mistake about it,” the former federal prosecutor told Fox News’ Laura Ingraham. “This was a plot to exonerate Hillary Clinton illegally, and then if she lost the election, to frame Donald Trump with an illegal crime.”
He continued: “This is the worst period in the history of the bureau — much worse than the late [J. Edgar] Hoover period when they were spying on domestic groups. This was the weaponization of the FBI for political purposes by all the people at the upper echelon of the bureau.”
For this reason, DiGenova called for Democrats to stop making excuses and to wake up. “What’s coming now is a federal grand jury and it’s not going to be pretty,” he said ominously.
DiGenova expressed skepticism that FBI Director Christopher Wray was shocked by what he read in the four-page FISA abuse memo over the weekend.
“If that’s the case, where has he been?” he asked. “There is enough evidence on the public record with the information from the inspector general and from the Hill with the legal release of documents, that it was clear that Mr. McCabe and others had engaged in highly improper, probably illegal activity in the FISA court stuff along with the dossier from Christopher Steele.”
He argued that McCabe should have been gone a long time ago — as well as Strzok and Page and anyone else involved in the scandal. “This is a dark moment for the FBI,” DiGenova declared. “It’s gonna to take a lot for them to recover from this.”
“Comey was a dirty cop and unfortunately he dirtied up everybody else around him,” DiGenova concluded.
