White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders defended President Trump’s latest Twitter attacks on the media during the daily press briefing Thursday, saying it shouldn’t surprise anyone that “he fights fire with fire.”

Fox News White House correspondent John Roberts asked Sanders if she thought the president went too far when he insulted “low I.Q. Crazy Mika” and  “psycho Joe” on a personal level.

“I don’t think so,” Sanders answered. “I think the president has been attacked mercilessly on personal accounts by members on that program, and I think he’s been very clear that when he gets attacked, he’s gonna hit back.”

She added, “I think the American people elected someone who’s tough, who’s smart, and who’s a fighter. I don’t think it’s a surprise to anybody that he fights fire with fire.  The things that this show has called him — and not just him, but numerous members of his staff, including myself and many others — are very deeply personal.”
