‘Bulb Bandit’ Squirrel Steals 150 Christmas Bulbs in 24 Hours

Squirrels are said to be the most active in the fall, when they have to stockpile enough acorns and the like to last through the winter. But one little fella in Seattle, Washington, just took it to a whole new level. A family started noticing that the Christmas lights on the outside of their house were disappearing and soon discovered that “a kleptomaniac squirrel” was stealing their bulbs—to the tune of 150 a day.

Via The Telegraph:

Margaret Rican, victim of the furry thief, has been documenting the animal’s efforts on YouTube, telling viewers: “The holiday season is upon us, and people are feeling festive with holiday lights, always fearing that the Grinch will steal Christmas.”

“This year, we found a new thief. He’s a little squirrel that we are calling the Bulb Bandit.”

“We want to believe that this little varmint is decorating his nest, but really, we think that he believes these to be food. He has stolen 150 in 24 hours, carefully and precisely chewing through the wires to steal the bulb and bury them around the neighborhood.”

“He’s the hardest working rodent we’ve ever seen and we are really pulling for him, and hoping he survives this winter. He’s a quick little bandit, with really good hops.”

I’d hate to see his face the first time he bites down on one of the colorful “acorns” though. All that hard work for a mouthful of glass. #Sad!

Watch the “bulb bandit” in action. He definitely does have some “really good hops.”
