On the morning of the first meeting of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Election Integrity, Vanita Gupta — the head of the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division under the Obama administration — published a “Moon Landing Was Faked”-level rant about the Committee’s supposed dangers to American democracy. She really did title it “The Voter Purges Are Coming.”
They aren’t, Miss Gupta, but your op-ed does a tremendous job of making the case for an immediate purge of Obama-era executive branch hires.
Gupta was not simply popping off on her own. The institutional Left really, really does not want this Committee, or anyone else, doing anything to address the 1 in 8 U.S. voter registrations that contain a serious error, according to a Pew Charitable Trusts study. So many, many of them joined up to spread her silly message this morning.
Gupta’s op-ed represents coordination with her own Leadership Council on Human Rights, the New York Times, the ACLU, the NAACP, other, less-recognizable activist groups, and, in Silicon Valley solidarity with the Democratic Party, whoever at Twitter supervises its “trending” topics. All of these entities joined to push out a single false, silly message: the right of minority American citizens to vote is going to be taken away by scary, evil white men:
They met for a quick rally — sure to be covered by mainstream outlets as an example of grassroots, spontaneous anger — though it was sparsely attended with professionally printed signs:

The institutional Left really wants to make “The Voter Purges Are Coming” a thing. However, on this topic, the American public has proven to be a tad smarter than the swamp.
They are seeing through the dated, propagandistic attacks from people like Gupta for what they are: the same type of win-at-all-costs partisanship from the Left that saw Bernie Sanders colluded out of the Democratic primary. As of this writing, three-and-a-half hours in, few of the tweets from Gupta’s Twitter Town Hall crew have garnered more than a dozen retweets. Twitter kept #RespectMyVote in its Trending topics for a while, though the actual discussion was obviously sparse.
America is simply rejecting the idea that doing everything possible to make our voter rolls accurate is somehow “racist.” For example, support for Voter ID as an election integrity measure is sky-high: Gallup found it to be 80% in August 2016. When do Americans ever find themselves in such agreement?
Vanita Gupta yaps about “voter suppression” of minorities, but American minorities sure do not share her opinion:
According to poll data from Gallup, released this week, 77 percent of American Hispanics and Blacks support voter ID laws. The figure is essentially the same among whites; 81 percent back ID laws. All in all, large majorities in both parties support voter ID laws. 95 percent of Republicans support them; 63 percent of Democrats do. (And by the way, given that minorities are overwhelmingly Democratic, doesn’t that imply that Democratic white voters are far less supportive of voter ID laws than Democratic minority voters?)
So, here is how things stand: A large majority of Democratic voters back voter ID laws. Yet Democratic party officials and media elites oppose them tooth and nail. Is there something the party honchos know that the voters don’t?
Well yes, there is: behind the scenes, the institutional Left has decided that it would be a really, really, horrible thing for the Presidential Advisory Committee on Election Integrity to be writing a report.
Why? Draw your own conclusions as to why Gupta, et al. are so emphatically siding against the will of the people here.
It may help to learn a bit more about her, though PJ Media readers are quite familiar with Gupta since two members of the Committee on Election Integrity are frequent contributors here, and both are former DOJ attorneys.
J. Christian Adams is PJ Media’s legal editor, and Hans von Spakovsky has written dozens of articles here over the years on legal topics. Both previously were attorneys within the Department of Justice’s Voting Section, and both left the DOJ over concerns with lawless behavior from people like Gupta.

If you read the entirety of Gupta’s speech, you’ll get a sense of what is going on in the mind of the anti-police left. Officials in this administration still think it is rational and acceptable to bring up the name Michael Brown in the context of anything other than a likely felon against whom deadly force was justifiably used.

Gupta asks the question that many Americans have already asked and answered:
“It’s worth asking, first, how did we get here? And second, what are we going to do about it?”
To most law-abiding Americans, the idea of fleeing from the police, or worse, charging at a policeman you have already punched, is simply beyond the realm of possibility.
So how did we get here? Was it a breakdown of values? Perhaps a pervasive tolerance for lawlessness? Of course not. Says Gupta:
“Let’s start with the first question and consider the source of the mistrust. Mistrust can’t be explained away as the kneejerk reaction of the ill-informed or the hyperbolic. It’s in part the product of historical awareness about the role that police have played in enforcing and perpetuating (wait for it! here it comes!) slavery, the Black Codes, lynchings and Jim Crow segregation.”

Justice Department: Requiring Accused Criminals to Post Bail is Discrimination
The Department of Justice Civil Rights Division has filed a brief in a federal court arguing that requiring bail, the money accused criminals must post to be released from jail, is discriminatory. To support their legal position, the Justice Department cites studies published by the George Soros funded Open Society Institute.

Gupta was also behind the DOJ targeting of North Carolina’s transgender bathroom law that turned into a national hysteria of propaganda and hypocrisy:
The United States Justice Department has now capitulated to the demands of activists in striking down a state law by interpreting the protections of people on the basis of “sex” in a 1960s civil rights act to apply to gender identity. This move threatens to remove millions of dollars in federal education funding.

“Specifically, the State is engaging in a pattern or practice of discrimination against transgender state employees and both you, in your official capacity, and the State are engaging in a pattern or practice of resistance to the full enjoyment of Title VII rights by transgender employees of public agencies.
“Access to sex-segregated restrooms and other workplace facilities consistent with gender identity is a term, condition, or privilege of employment. Denying such access to transgender individuals, whose gender identity is different from their gender assigned at birth, while affording it to similarly situated non-transgender employees, violates Title VII.”

The agreement imposes a ten-member “community police commission” who will watch over the police, only three of whom have any law enforcement perspective.
The remaining seven are sure to include individuals either actively involved in the racialist anti-police efforts or one degree of separation from the same. The agreement imposes a federal monitor, a person likely to make hundreds of thousands of dollars in this role.
The police will have to undergo “bias free policing principle” training.
The Obama Justice Department uses an outfit funded by George Soros and affiliated with former Black Panther (and still communist) Angela Davis to train police about bias. Any time a Cleveland police officer unholsters his or her weapon, a report must be filed with the federal monitor.
In Los Angeles, a similar DOJ enforcement scheme led crime to spike and police officers to refuse to work on gang units …

Acting Assistant Attorney General Vanita Gupta is a former ACLU lawyer. She most famously said that the Baltimore riots were caused by slavery and Jim Crow laws. Enough said.

Lynch and DOJ Civil Rights Division head Vanita Gupta have appeared at gala events for an organization called Muslim Advocates. The George Soros-funded charity has badgered the New York City Police Department away from monitoring the most radical mosques in the city.
The organization is also responsible for rewriting training materials for federal law enforcement to decouple the role of radical Islam from terrorist acts. An inter-agency working group comprised of multiple federal law enforcement agencies in 2014 adopted this whitewash urged by Muslim Advocates.

Civil Rights Division head Gupta appeared at the sold-out annual gala event for Muslim Advocates in Millbrae, California. Muslim Advocates lobbies the administration heavily to oppose any link between terrorist acts and radical Islam, and opposes monitoring of radical mosques. Gupta told the crowd:
“To anyone who feels afraid, targeted, or discriminated against because of which religion you practice or where you worship, I want to say this — we see you. We hear you. And we stand with you. If you ever feel that somehow you don’t belong, or don’t fit in, here in America, let me reassure you you belong.”
Muslim Advocates also conducts recruitment and training for lawyers designed to help FBI terrorist targets and interviewees navigate the interviews. Their annual report states:
“Throughout the year we grew our internal volunteer referral list for FBI interviews. Today, the list is over 130 lawyers nationwide who are ready and able to assist community members contacted by the FBI.”
The purported non-partisan tax exempt 501(c)(3) charity is conducting a campaign against corporations like Coca-Cola to hector them into not sponsoring the Republican convention in Cleveland.
Muslim Advocates gave Vanita Gupta their Thurgood Marshall Award “for her commitment to criminal justice reform and to holding perpetrators of anti-Muslim hate accountable” at the California gala.
So this is Vanita Gupta, the author of the institutional Left’s latest descent into dishonest, misleading, demonizing, and more-than-a-tad-crazy political narratives: “The Voter Purges Are Coming.”
This is whom a good portion of the mainstream media will treat as a worthwhile source on issues related to the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity in the coming months.
Watch out for the media/Democratic collusion, but don’t bother getting too upset about it.
America, even the Left, has seen through the propaganda this time, and is rightly dismissing Vanita Gupta’s latest campaign of tin-foil silliness.
