A three-month-old miniature Chihuahua was abandoned in a Las Vegas airport bathroom over the weekend along with a sad note written by its broken-hearted owner.
According to the hand-written note, the adorable pup and its owner were victims of domestic abuse and, unfortunately, the owner could not afford to bring her precious “Chewy” with her on the plane.
“My owner was in an abusive relationship and couldn’t afford to get me on the flight,” the note read. “She didn’t want to leave me with all her heart but she has no other option.”
The heartbreaking letter went on to say: “My ex-boyfriend kicked my dog when we were fighting and he has a big knot on his head. He probably needs a vet. I love Chewy sooo much — please love and take care of him.”
Airport authorities handed Chewy over to a dog rescue shelter in Las Vegas where he is doing much better.
“I cried,” said Darlene Blair with the Connor and Millie’s Dog Rescue. “This one really got to me. You could tell by the way the note was written that the woman was in dire stress and she didn’t want to give him up and she couldn’t take him with her.”
It was indeed a tragic situation. The woman’s fiendish ex-boyfriend not only beat her up, but he kicked her tiny chihuahua puppy in the head for good measure? Who does that?
The poor, desperate woman apparently didn’t know she had better options than to abandon her pup at the airport.

This case highlights the unintended consequences of domestic violence.
“There’s absolutely an option out there,” Lori Nelson with Noah’s Animal House said.
Noah’s Animal House is a safe place that works to keep sheltered women and children near their pets. The boarding house in Las Vegas has helped more than 1,000 pets over 10 years.
“The animal is equally a member the family as anyone else, and it’s vital that when you’re leaving a domestic violence situation, that your pet can come with you,” Nelson said.
“I know it’s hard when you’re in that situation to trust someone, but there are good people out there — and if you’re in that situation and you need help to take your dog with you, try not to be too afraid to ask for help,” Blair said.
Connor and Millie’s Dog Rescue posted a photo on Facebook of the Chewy along with the note from his previous owner and the story quickly went viral.
The rescue group wrote, “Please share in hopes that his mom sees this, that she was brave to leave and that he will have a great life.”
An update on the group’s Facebook page says there was “tremendous interest” in Chewy and the group is compiling all of the interest forms and will go through them all before finding Chewy his new forever home.
