The latest firing at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) follows an insane “sugar daddy” scandal within its counterterrorism headquarters.
Counterterrorism chief Joe Kent already resigned in sensational fashion while falsely claiming that the Trump administration was only involved in conflict with the terrorist Iranian regime because of Israeli propaganda. On April 22, The Daily Mail released a subscribers-only piece with the salacious headline, “Secret 'sugar daddy' sex scandal explodes inside Trump's counterterrorism HQ: Read glamorous senior aide's voracious text messages, itemized 'trophies'… and her utterly shameless justification.”
Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin responded on X with a free update of his own. “A DHS official tells me that 29-year-old Julia Varvaro, DHS [Deputy] Assistant Secretary for counterterrorism, has been placed on administrative leave and removed from her position while allegations of her repeated use of ‘Sugar Daddies’ are being investigated. Wild DM story,” Melugin posted.
Varvano matched with divorced business executive Robert B. on the Hinge app. After months of a relationship during which he claimed she got a lot of money out of him and kept demanding financial assistance, Robert filed an official complaint with DHS against her. There is now uncertainty as to whether she put national security at risk during her relationship.
Varvano asserted, according to the New York Post, “This is just a mad ex-boyfriend putting crap together. And it’s just really weird. If we made a story about every failed short relationship in DC, this town would implode. I thought it was a great relationship until we just didn’t work, and that was it.” That would appear to be the “utterly shameless” defense criticized on The Daily Mail.
Robert definitely has his problems too, as he complained about not getting more than a kiss on his first date at a pricey restaurant. The businessman‘s daughter told her father that Varvano was just a “gold digger” and advised him to break off the relationship. Varvano would always order the most expensive things on the menu when she and Robert went out together.

When they went on one holiday weekend together in Aruba, her complaints about their original accommodations supposedly caused him to switch to a luxury hotel, and she also wanted a Cartier “souvenir.” They traveled in Europe together as well. She demanded more money from him for her rent amid the DHS funding shutdown and asked for a credit card in her name so she could buy whatever she wanted. He claims Varvano was angry at him over that and over his refusal to Venmo her thousands of dollars for sandals she bought without his permission and cellulite remover. “I like feeling provided for and you’re not doing that for me, so not sure it will work,” she reportedly told Robert.
Finally, after wasting tens of thousands of dollars on the relationship and making a fool out of himself, Robert decided to complain to Varvano’s employers. “She also told me directly that the $40,000 worth of jewelry on her wrists and ears are all trophies from her sugar daddies,” he accused her. She told the press that she thought it was perfectly normal for girlfriends to demand access to their rich boyfriends’ credit cards.
It appears, therefore, that Varvano is not denying her relationship with Robert, nor her incessant demands on his pocketbook. The only thing to which she objects is a criticism of her expensive taste and unreasonable expectations.
