As lefties melt into puddles of tears over alleged Antarctic ice melt, a cruise ship had to be rescued after wedging and freezing in place in the Antarctic.
Climate alarmists have been assuring us for more than half a century now that global catastrophe was right around the corner unless we raised taxes, gave up our SUVs, and generally impoverished ourselves. Naturally, they have had to update their doom deadlines and alter their predictions repeatedly over the years as their track record of 100% failure kept catching up with them, but one of their favorite claims — at least for the past couple of decades — has been the alleged catastrophic disappearance of Arctic and Antarctic ice. You will be happy to know they were completely wrong about that prediction as well.
In proof of which, the U.S. Coast Guard just had to send a rescue mission in the form of its heaviest icebreaker ship to the Antarctic to chop out a cruise ship that actually froze in place in the ice-filled waters there. The Coast Guard explained in a press release on Jan. 23:
The Australian-owned cruise ship Scenic Eclipse II contacted Polar Star at approximately 11 p.m., local time Friday after becoming beset in pack ice roughly eight nautical miles from McMurdo Sound. Polar Star’s crew conducted two close passes to break the vessel free, then escorted it approximately four nautical miles to open water.

By the way, NASA satellites found last year that the Antarctic gained ice.
Reality does not stop leftist media from continuing the doom narrative. PBS, for instance, promoted a documentary on a melting glacier. “Scientists are worried about the melting of Antarctica's ice sheets and what it could mean for sea levels,” PBS described the reason for the trip. “But it's a journey that provides no guarantees that researchers will even be able to get the data they want.” Maybe that’s because the scientists are not objective, but are trying to prop up a narrative. Or maybe it is because weather changes regularly and it is difficult to predict with exactitude what it will be like a few weeks from now let alone a few decades from now.
The Associated Press was similarly gloomy on Jan. 14, “A novel sanctuary in Antarctica is preserving ice samples from rapidly melting glaciers.” Futurism dramatically announced on Jan. 28, “Scientists Scramble to Set Up Outpost on Rapidly Melting Glacier.”
My colleague David Manney just addressed the embarrassing failure of climate alarmism to predict the future in his article for the 20th anniversary of grifter Al Gore’s film An Inconvenient Truth. In that film, Gore predicted that polar ice would vanish, sea levels would rise significantly, and that snow would practically become a fairytale of a bygone era (among other assertions). None of those things happened, of course. But Gore did make $300 million off spreading climate alarmism over the years. It is almost as if the lies were always about his power and wealth, instead of scientific reality.
The leftist media is never going to admit they are wrong about climate alarmism. They have been wrong for 60+ years, but that hasn’t stopped them, because this is about ideology and control, not about facts.
