Hardcore Islamic sharia regimes are always heinous for the people they rule because Islam is inherently elitist, bloodthirsty, and intolerant. The Iranian Islamic Republic regime just gave fresh proof of that as protests continue to rock the country.
Ayatollah Khamenei and his whole government are thirsting for the blood of their own people. My colleague Robert Spencer called attention to a disturbing Iranian national TV broadcast, meaning it is coming from a government mouthpiece. “Don’t let your children go out tonight. If they do, don’t complain if they are shot,” the announcer lectured coldly.
Khanenei himself gave exactly the sort of speech you would expect from the leader of a government that is the worst state sponsor of terrorism in the world. “We have spilled blood to establish this Islamic regime and we will not retreat an inch in the face of the protesters,” he ranted. His Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which is essentially a terrorist group, has been mowing down protesters in the streets and threatening to kill more.

But these statements are truly emblematic of the attitude of all hardcore Islamic regimes (i.e., those that are not Westernized). Islamic sacred texts endorse jihad, sex slavery, domestic abuse, honor killings, child brides, and other evils. Sharia reinforces dictatorial authority for Islamic rulers against anyone they determine is insufficiently obedient or "blasphemous."

It is not surprising that the Persian people are willing to brave even death to protest such a regime, but what is disgusting is how many Western outlets are pretending that the protests are purely economic and have nothing to do with religious tyranny. They are willfully ignoring the calls for the restoration of the Shah and the chants for death to Khamanei, "the dictator." The protestors understand what so many Westerners (including even some conservatives) are determined not to understand — living under an Islamic dictatorship is hell on earth.

Iran has its tentacles all over the Middle East and indeed the world, supporting terrorist groups like Hamas and Hezbollah. Indeed, a new report is that Hezbollah and Iraqi jihadis are rushing to Iran to help the regime there against the protesters. It is interesting that the Iraqis say they are going to fight “vile Zionists”. Some of the strongest supporters of Israel within the last two years have been Iranian freedom fighters.
This reality of what Islam always creates in the political sphere is something that Westerners have not seemed to understand for several centuries. Western leaders, including U.S. presidents, have made the same doomed deals and policy mistakes over and over because they want to believe that Muslim jihadis really want the same things we do -- peace, prosperity for all, and equal rights. Why they should believe jihadis want these goods when even many Western leftists don't, I'm not certain, but they do believe it. And so here we are again with an uprising against Islamic dictatorship and Western media have all the wrong analyses.
Ayatollah Khamenei believes it is his right from Allah to massacre protestors, just as Hamas and Hezbollah believe it is their religious calling to murder Jewish babies. And that is because their underlying ideology is the same.
