Persecuted Nigerian Christians Feel Kinship With Charlie Kirk as Leftists Smear Him

Townhall Media

Charlie Kirk said he wanted to be remembered for his courage and his faith. And that is exactly what resonates with Christians in the world’s deadliest country for followers of Christ.

I happened to do an internet search for Charlie Kirk’s comments on persecution of Christians. I was struck by the results. DuckDuckGo’s top three promoted articles were all about leftist blacks in America who falsely defamed Kirk’s memory and whined about supposed oppression in America. The fourth article was about Africans persecuted for their faith who admire the courageous stand Kirk took for Christianity. And there, in a nutshell, is fake oppression versus real oppression.

The black Americans who accept the left’s lies fundamentally believe that they are oppressed in America, even though black people can hold the highest political offices, reach mega-celebrity status, and even receive preferential treatment in many colleges and institutions. Charlie Kirk (and many black American patriots) saw through that preposterous victimhood mentality, which is why we have the following disgusting headlines:

“Charlie Kirk, Christian Nationalism, and Loving Our Enemies” (The Presbyterian Outlook — the writer slammed “White Christian nationalism”)

“Black pastors say Charlie Kirk is not a martyr, while decrying racism and political violence” (Associated Press — the authors outright lied about Kirk’s view of black people)

“Black clergy grapple with Charlie Kirk's rhetoric and his treatment as a hero” (NBC News — a version of the above AP article, with the same false statements)

Kirk, in the most charitable manner possible, assured black Americans that he didn’t believe their skin color mattered. That is literally the opposite of racism. And for black Nigerians, who are facing actual oppression and a decade-long genocide against Christians by Muslim jihadis, Kirk’s words have been an inspiration.

From CatholicVote:

The death of Charlie Kirk has stirred waves of solidarity from Christians across the globe, particularly in Nigeria, where believers living under daily threat say his message of courage and faith has become a point of reflection and strength.

TruthNigeria reported that online tributes emerged quickly in the wake of Kirk’s death, with Nigerians sharing his interviews, quotes, and reflections under the hashtag #CharlieKirkLivesOn.

One resident of terror-plagued Benue State, Ogwola Otoche, declared, “Here in Nigeria, we celebrate Charlie because he had the courage to stand for the truth that we Christians live and die for. He was murdered for speaking boldly against falsehood, just as countless Nigerian Christians are being persecuted and slaughtered today for refusing to renounce their faith.”

Rev. Sam Magaji stated, “Charlie Kirk’s life shows that one voice can inspire millions. Here in Nigeria, where pastors and believers face intimidation, we take courage from his stand.” And David Onyilokwu Idah warmly said, “Charlie Kirk stood for the principle that without religious freedom, no other freedom is secure. That is a message Nigerians understand very well. For communities in conflict areas, faith is often the only thing people have left.”

Charlie Kirk was a martyr for faith and freedom, just like the persecuted Nigerian Christians. May they all meet and rejoice together in Heaven.
