White House Thanksgiving Hunger Game: Choose Which Turkey Dies!

According to the White House’s website, “On Wednesday, November 27th, President Obama will pardon the National Thanksgiving Turkey, and once again the American people will decide which bird takes the title. Learn about each bird, listen to their gobble and then make your selection.”

The site includes social media tools to select which bird you’d prefer get the pardon. But by implication, if you pardon one bird, you’re condemning the other to the axe.

It’s reminiscent of Roman emperors asking audiences at gladiatorial games to choose whether a given gladiator lives or dies, before signaling the verdict with a thumb up (they live) or a thumb down (they die).
