Appearing on CNN Sunday, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) declared the IRS abuse scandal over. Cummings is the ranking Democrat on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

CNN’s Candy Crowley, the reporter who helped President Obama out of a Benghazi jam during the 2012 presidential debates, asked Cummings “As far as you are concerned, based on the information that you now have, which in its totality is greater than ours, is this case over? Have you solved the case of the IRS and how this came to be?”
Cummings answered, “Based upon everything I’ve seen, the case is solved. And if it were me, I would wrap this case up and move on.”
Nothing to see here, move along.
In reality, we still don’t know very much at all about the IRS abuse or how it came to be. Each story the American people have been told by the IRS has fallen apart. Lois Lerner took the Fifth and refused to even testify. Rather than take any concrete action to clean the agency up, President Obama fake-fired the acting commissioner. Sarah Hall Ingraham was promoted from heading the office at the center of the abuse, to overseeing the implementation of ObamaCare. She reportedly met with the White House 165 times. Why? Rather than apologize to the American people forthrightly about the targeting and abuse, President Obama has unleashed his attack dogs to attack Republicans in Congress. Why?
Cummings and Crowley had a goal with this exchange: Apply pressure on the heads of the several congressional committees that are investigating the IRS abuse, to stand down.
Cummings’ interest here is obvious: Protect the president. What’s Crowley’s angle for participating in the set-up?
