Yup. Obvious fact is obvious. The reason that Democrats like Barack Obama and Chuck Schumer are salivating over legalizing millions of illegal aliens is obvious.
Beneath the philosophical debates about amnesty and border security, there are brass-tacks partisan calculations driving the thinking of lawmakers in both parties over comprehensive immigration reform, which in its current form offers a pathway to citizenship — and full voting rights — for a group of undocumented residents that roughly equals the population of Ohio, the nation’s seventh-largest state.
If these people had been on the voting rolls in 2012 and voted along the same lines as other Hispanic voters did last fall, President Barack Obama’s relatively narrow victory last fall would have been considerably wider, a POLITICO analysis showed.
Key swing states that Obama fought tooth and nail to win — like Florida, Colorado and Nevada — would have been comfortably in his column. And the president would have come very close to winning Arizona.
Republican Mitt Romney, by contrast, would have lost the national popular vote by 7 percentage points, 53 percent to 46 percent, instead of the 4-point margin he lost by in 2012, and would have struggled even to stay competitive in GOP strongholds like Texas, which he won with 57 percent of the vote.
The analysis is based on U.S. Census and Pew Research Center estimates of illegal immigrant populations by state, and presidential exit polls showing how Obama and Romney performed among Latinos.
About 75% of the illegal aliens in the US are Hispanic, mostly from Mexico. Not all of them will end up getting or exercising voting rights, but many will if the “reform” goes through. The “reform” will also attract millions more, hoping to take advantage of us and of amnesty.
Some Republicans will counter that the millions include many natural social conservatives, which is true. It also includes many natural fiscal liberals who favor Big Government policies like ObamaCare. The question is, which way will they vote? If current trends are any guide, they’ll tend to vote with the latter, not the former.
The Democrats get this. They haven’t made any secret of their intentions. They’re pushing immigration reform in order to turn even red Texas blue, and they’re very open about it. They kick law abiding citizens, knowing that no one stands up for them, while coddling those who have broken the law. They have also figured out something else, how to identify and turn out low-information and low-engagement voters. That was key to Obama’s win in 2012 and will feature in Democrat strategies going forward. It’s a big part of why Organizing for Action still exists and keeps trying to fire up the base with its silly emails. Those silly, emotional emails work.
So far, the GOP has no counter punch, and many leaders like Sen. Marco Rubio don’t seem to understand how they’re being played in a game that will mint millions of votes for the Democrats.
