I’ve seen a lot in politics, so it takes a lot to leave me speechless. But this — it leaves me speechless.
An Evening with Bill Maher
March 17, 2012 Chairman’s Reception at 7pm
Performance at 8pm
Come join Alabama Democrats at the Von Braun Center Concert Hall in Huntsville for an Evening with Bill Maher. 700 Monroe Street Southwest, Huntsville, AL 35801.
Tickets are $100 and include admission to the pre-event Chairman’s reception and prime seating at the performance.
Which word is worse, “slut” or the c-word — which is what Bill Maher has called Sarah Palin?
Democrats denounce Rush for the word he used but has apologized for, but not only do not disapprove of what Maher said, they show with their fund raiser that they actively approve of him. That’s the obvious message they’re sending with this. They’re raising money on his celebrity.
Funny thing, though. I called up the Alabama Democratic Party’s hq and asked if they were having a fundraiser with Bill Maher. The gentleman on the phone was very polite but said “That’s not entirely true,” took my number and pledged to have the executive director call me back.
Their branding and address are on that ad. The phone number was the correct one; one reason I called it was just to make sure that it was legit. The party event is billed as a “Chairman’s Reception.” How, then, could it not be “entirely true” that the AL Democrats are having a fund raiser with the c-word using Bill Maher?
The Alabama Democratic Party chairman, by the way, is Justice H. Mark Kennedy. On the AL Dems’ blog, Kennedy touts “Biblical principles.” Do those “Biblical principles” include appearing with a notorious and unapologetic misogynist?
Update: The AL GOP is calling on the Democrats to call off the Maher fundraiser. And the AL Dems haven’t returned the Daily Caller’s phone calls, either.
