It isn’t much of a deal.
[Sen. minority leader Mark] Miller said that the state would require Walker to find $79 million in cuts called for in the current budget bill that the Walker administration has said aren’t possible to find so quickly. In addition, the proposal would eliminate from the bill $42 million in spending in the state’s health programs for the poor that is designed to increase federal payments for those programs.
Two up front components, and one hidden: Make Walker find a bunch of cuts, make many of the same cuts Walker has already proposed — and preserve the government unions’ special status to both lobby for more benefits while turning around and funding the Democratic Party.
Nevertheless, Walker should entertain their deal. In person, in Madison.
