WASHINGTON — Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) says President Trump has to pay up and donate to charity now that she has a DNA test proving her Native American ancestry.
Trump’s response to reporters outside the White House: “Who cares?”
At a July rally, Trump told supporters, “And we will say, ‘I will give you a million dollars, paid for by Trump, to your favorite charity if you take the test and it shows you’re an Indian’ … we’ll see what she does. I have a feeling she will say no but we will hold it for the debates.”
Warren called upon Carlos Bustamante, a professor of genetics at Stanford and adviser to Ancestry and 23 and Me, to check her DNA. Bustamante found she had a Native American ancestor from six to 10 generations ago.
The senator then began goading Trump on Twitter.
My family (including Fox News-watchers) sat together and talked about what they think of @realDonaldTrump’s attacks on our heritage. And yes, a famous geneticist analyzed my DNA and concluded that it contains Native American ancestry. pic.twitter.com/r3SNzP22f8

By the way, @realDonaldTrump: Remember saying on 7/5 that you’d give $1M to a charity of my choice if my DNA showed Native American ancestry? I remember – and here’s the verdict. Please send the check to the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center: https://t.co/I6YQ9hf7Tv pic.twitter.com/J4gBamaeeo

NIWRC is a nonprofit working to protect Native women from violence. More than half of all Native women have experienced sexual violence, and the majority of violent crimes against Native Americans are perpetrated by non-Natives.
Send them your $1M check, @realDonaldTrump.

I took this test and released the results for anyone who cares to see because I’ve got nothing to hide. What are YOU hiding, @realDonaldTrump? Release your tax returns – or the Democratic-led House will do it for you soon enough. Tick-tock, Mr President.

Asked about his million-dollar rally quote, Trump told reporters today, “I didn’t say that. I think you better read it again.”
“I hope she’s running for president because I think she’d very easy. I hope that she is running. I do not think she’d be difficult at all. She’ll destroy the country. She’ll make our country into Venezuela,” Trump continued.
“With that being said, I don’t want to say bad things about her, because I hope she would be one of the people that would get through the process. It’s going to be a long process for the Democrats.”
