Head’s up, readers in Nebraska: The State Department is holding a public forum on the Keystone XL pipeline project.
On the negative side for Keystone supporters, the forum is another signal that John Kerry’s department is foot-dragging a final decision on the permit. Nebraska’s governor approved the revised route through his state more than two months ago, and both Republicans and Democrats have been urging the Obama administration to get moving on necessary approvals.
On the positive side, “the purpose of this meeting is to give individuals an opportunity to express their views and provide comments” on the draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) released on March 1.
The meeting will be Thursday, April 18, at Heartland Events Center, 700 East Stolley Park Road, Grand Island, Neb. There will be two sessions from 12:00–3:30 p.m. and from 4:00–8:00 p.m. Registration opens at 11 a.m.
“All comments will be transcribed by a court reporter and will become part of the administrative record and considered in preparing the final version of the Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement,” the State Department said.
“To accommodate those who cannot attend or who are unable to deliver their full comments in the allotted time, the Department is accepting written comments through April 22. All written comments will have equal standing with spoken comments from the public meeting and will become part of the administrative record. A summary of all comments will be incorporated in an appendix to the final version of the SEIS.”
