Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) answered a question about Mitt Romney’s tax returns this afternoon with a response about Operation Fast and Furious.
McConnell held a press availability after a closed policy luncheon in which Sens. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.), John Thune (R-S.C.), and John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) slammed the Democrats’ current game of chicken on limited extension of the Bush-era tax cuts.
After also taking on the DISCLOSE Act as “selective disclosure of 501-C4s with a huge carve out for labor unions so that the law doesn’t have to apply to them,” McConnell was asked about a growing number of Republicans that have called on Romney to release more tax returns than this year’s and the last.
“Are you one of them?” a reporter asked.
“I wish the president would let us know what he knew about Fast and Furious,” McConnell responded. “He’s in office, that’s directly related to his re-election, his performance. Those are the kinds of disclosure issues, if you will, that I think the American people are really interested in.”
“The campaign can speak for itself on its strategy,” he added.
