The Law of Nothing But Unintended Consequences

October 15th, 2013 - 12:12 pm

I know we just did an ObamaCare fail of the day, but the fails are racking up faster and faster, now that the law is coming into full effect. So let’s have another:

Hospitals, a reliable source of employment growth in the recession and its aftermath, are starting to cut thousands of jobs amid falling insurance payments and inpatient visits.

The payroll cuts are surprising because the Affordable Care Act (ACA), whose implementation took a big step forward this month, is eventually expected to provide health coverage to as many as 30 million additional Americans.

“While the rest of the U.S. economy is stabilizing or improving, health care is entering into a recession,” says John Howser, assistant vice chancellor of Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Huh. A big government program is creating shortages and unemployment instead of bounty and wealth? And this is “surprising” to someone smart enough to act as an assistant vice chancellor of Vanderbilt University Medical Center?

What are they teaching in the universities these days?

Oh. Right. Marxism.

It was actually the USA Today reporter who said it was surprising, not the guy from Vanderbilt. J-school grads have been Marxist since Marx was in diapers, so that's no surprise.

I love these Obamacare fails. You'll be seeing a lot of me in these threads.

I still want the details, though. I thought I was going to get it from Ben Domenech, but he just wound up for an incredible reveal and then punted.
