Perks for Sergey But Not for Thee?

September 18th, 2013 - 6:35 am

Why, why must bad things happen to good jillionaires? Read:

Google Inc. founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin may have to dig deeper to operate their fleet of private jets, after the U.S. Department of Defense ended a little-known arrangement that for years allowed the tech billionaires to travel on sharply discounted jet fuel bought from the Pentagon.

The agreement between the Google founders and the government, which started in 2007, ended Aug. 31 after officials at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration—which sponsored the arrangement—opted not to renew it, according to a Pentagon spokeswoman.

The move followed discussions earlier this year between the Pentagon and NASA over whether the Google founders may have exceeded contract terms by using fuel for non-government flights, according to a letter from a Pentagon official released by Sen. Charles Grassley.

All I want is for someone to subsidize my martini habit. Is that too much to ask?

So sequestration cuts White House tours but not billionaires' private jet fuel subsidies?

And it started in 2007? It's not just Obama that's the problem.

After learning how these billionaires not only gave political support to statist "progressive" causes, but has permitted government agencies such as the NSA to access metadata on millions of private citizens, not allowing them to buy sharply discounted jet fuel from the DoD is not enough. They should return to the government all the money that they saved from buying deeply discounted fuel from the DoD. Think about how many more flight hours that the Navy, Marines, and the Air Force could have had with the fuel that these guys obtained at next to nothing. No more corporate welfare for "progressive" crony capitalists!
