Here’s your scary-ass chart of the day — if you happen to be the lame-ass governor of a bloated blue state.

Here’s more from the IBD story:

Americans are migrating from less-free liberal states to more-free conservative states, where they are doing better economically, according to a new study published Thursday by the George Mason University’s Mercatus Center.

The “Freedom in the 50 States” study measured economic and personal freedom using a wide range of criteria, including tax rates, government spending and debt, regulatory burdens, and state laws covering land use, union organizing, gun control, education choice and more.

It found that the freest states tended to be conservative “red” states, while the least free were liberal “blue” states.

The freest state overall, the researchers concluded, was North Dakota, followed by South Dakota, Tennessee, New Hampshire and Oklahoma. The least free state by far was New York, followed by California, New Jersey, Hawaii and Rhode Island.

With the exception of Hawaii, which has some built-in advantages like being one of the most beautiful and pleasant places in the world, all those places frankly suck. And none of them used to.

While NH is in the top five for this round, it will not stay there. In 2012, the Democrats swept almost everything, and have been working diligently on changing the state to less free. As previous commenters noted, incoming blue flight carries an inherent risk. For us, it is the MA folks who love to vacation in our state, and talk about how they want to move here not only for the natural beauty but especially to escape the onerous laws and taxation of MA. They move here, and vote for the same type of laws that they moved away from.

Just this week, the House voted to repeal our "Stand your ground law". My hope is that because we still control the Senate, this foolishness will be roundly defeated.

That could partly be because, although MA-holes tend to be socially liberal (and elect clowns like Fauxcahontas Warren) they do not tolerate such high taxation levels. My cube-mate at work lives in NH and we regularly compare notes. Our total local tax burdens (state, county, municipal) are pretty similar, believe it or not. Prop 2 1/2 (the property tax limiting law) has been on the books for 30 years and has survived D and R administrations and a persistent veto-overriding D majority in the legislature. Governor Patrick is floating an attempt to raise the state income tax but I predict it goes nowhere.

MA is nothing like the tax and regulatory hell-on-Earth that NY, CA and IL strive to be.

Shout it from the rooftops. Run constant ads featuring this. Simply the best argument for the Right. (And no, the Republican Party will not be offering those ads.)

Here's the problem: the people that are moving from blue states into red states are the same people who voted for the vile progressives in the blue states in the first place. kjanders is right: people leaving California (and New York and New Jersey) will attempt to turn any red state they move to into a blue state. You just hide and watch.

Not all of them - I know more than a few Californians who aren't Progressive Leftists.

It's a real problem (ask Colorado!), but it's not universal.

(And when they manage to ruin a state by turning it into Another California, they'll wonder what happened to the great place they moved to, and move again...)

I will say it again. To all those folks in red states, DO NOT let us Californians into your prosperous community. We will infest your state and keep voting for the same policies that destroyed CA. 20yrs down the road, when AZ, TX, OK... are mired in debt and regulated to an inch of their lives, ex-pat CAs will look around and wonder why they left CA, this state is just as screwed up.
