Cut Now, Tax Later (If Ever)
While I’m sure it’s somehow racist to compare President Obama to a suicide bomber, that’s just what Mark Thiessen did this morning:
Congressional Republicans need to buck up — Obama and the Democrats are overplaying their hand…
Even if Democrats succeed in blaming Republicans, going off the cliff is the political equivalent of a suicide-bombing for President Obama: To damage the GOP, he has to blow himself up in the process. Going over the cliff would likely cause a new recession, which would be a disaster for Obama — killing his chances of accomplishing anything of significance for the remainder of his presidency. As Keith Hennessey, former director of the National Economic Council for President George W. Bush, points out in a Wall Street Journal op-ed, a recession would limit Obama’s policy options and “irreparably damage his second term.”
If Obama considers the self-destruction of his presidency “winning,” he’s the Charlie Sheen of American politics.
Sheen? Now there’s a low blow.
Anyhoo, you can’t negotiate with hostage-takers, which is closer to the truth than “suicide bomber.” So the GOP needs to take a walk. Go on recess. Spend a little time with their families.
And show the world that Democrats need to spend like Charlie needs strippers & blow.

Not quite. The Republicans need to stay in session, need to be seen working hard on a compromise. Give the president some tax hikes, but hold the line on spending cuts in return.
The key point–be seen on the job and working hard when the president leaves for Hawaii. Keep the House in session on Christmas day if necessary.
Au contraire, as the Quebecois say. Tabernac! The People voted for totalitarian socialism, let them have it good and hard. They will learn to love Obamacare and the White House School Lunch Menu. Besides, if we embrace the cliff we go back to the rates of the Clinton Utopia. National insolvency is no big deal. Iceland did it and is growing faster than anybody who doesn’t fudge their books.
I still think Charlie treated Bree Olson, who has a cute, if provocative, smile, badly. You’d think the son of our Best President Ever could be a gentleman.
I had to share this tweet with you, Stephen.
“already cut $1T+ in gov spending last yr. Discretionary spending lowest as % of GDP since ike.”

Oh, I see. He’s already cut the things needing cutting. He will only, as he has SAID, as he has SAID, make NO mistake, make NO mistake, only support the cuts that are Smart cuts. You know Smart cuts, right? They’re the ones that are smart because they have already taken effect. Got it. These are the people who also evoke the word smart when threatening that the other guy is gonna unplug Grandma. Smart!
And, GOD BLESS US ALL, does the man have to compare himself to historical figures in every GOD BLESSIN’ statement he makes? He can’t even get through a 140 character tweet without correlating his selfless selfless selfless self to a dead President.
So, no, I do not think it to be a stretch to compare him to a suicide bomber.
The errant assumption here is that Obama shares the conventional definition of “significant accomplishment.” It’s the same error committed by those who insisted in 2009 that he was a “good man.” One would think Fast & Furious and Benghazi never happened.
