Tim Cook is Gonna Sue Somebody…

Fer cryin’ out loud, Samsung.

I won’t have to tell Mac users what this means. For everyone else, Samsung has copied the OSX dock wholesale, and pasted it into their Windows 8 machines.

Ummm, is it seriously possible to patent an icon dock at the bottom of the screen?
By the way, I think that this, or some other third-party utility, adequately overcomes the objections to Windows 8′s lack of a Start menu. That’s why you can’t count Microsoft out–as long as the OS itself is stable, they’ve got an enormous, well-supported developer ecosystem who are just begging to fix the details.
Click the link and read the whole article. Samsung didn’t just copy the look of the Dock, they copied its functionality, too.
I did read the whole article. Is it seriously possible to patent that functionality? The USPTO has thrown out much less obvious claims of mine for lack of novelty.
I was kidding about the lawsuit part. The headline is a paraphrase from “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.”
But Samsung’s gall here is laugh-inducing.
True. It is, in fact, a laughable knock-off.
Coming soon to the all-new s-Mac with built in s-Sight. Also includes special Mighty s-Mouse and s-Life software.
At least they didn’t steal the icons … this time.
I’m sorry, I read the (very short) article, and aside from the claim (from the website “cult of mac” ahem) that the Samsung S-launcher “looks and functions” JUST LIKE the OS X Dock, they point out it has a 3D semi-opaque tray. OMG! WTF!!?
Um, yeah. Like 3D semi-opaque elements (including toolbars) haven’t been a part of Windows since Vista (Aero)… That was of the very first things I killed when I bought a new system with Windows 7 on it.
Again we have gnashing of teeth and tearing of clothes over … “look & feel.” Why are we still arguing about this? Does Toyota or Honda sue GM because they finally went “japanese” with their interface in cars? That is, turn signal & lights on the left-hand stick, with wiper speed & mist on the right hand stick? And a hand-activated emergency brake? Or am I the only one who remembers how American cars used to operate?
Neary all newspapers have the same look & feel. Ditto for Magazines. Ditto for blogs. Even with blogs, you have the 1-column, 2-column, and 3-column formats. The biggest variation is where you put the 3 columns! Or car radios’ interface. Or boom-box/compact stereo systems. Or cassette decks. Or books. Or…
This is what the Apple community is reduced to protesting? I thought their product was so far above & beyond the “Windoze” trash produced that they wouldn’t even deign to recognize the existence of those lusers.
Let’s assume, for a moment, that this is a 100% genuine rip-off. It’s still “Windoze,” and it’s still inferior, right? So why sweat it? Do the New England Patriots worry about the Moeller High School (it’s in Cincinnati) football team? Or even, for that matter, the Bengals?
Methinks the Apple crowd, like the Obamaphiles, have finally reached the point where their claims of racism (or infringement) have jumped the shark.
