Laughing All the Way to the White House
Barack Obama is in favor of gay marriage. He’s in favor of it in the same way he supports closing Gitmo: It’s a nice thing to be in favor of, he’s just not going to do anything about it.
And that’s fine, really, in the case of gay marriage. His opinion of what to do about it (nearly) matches my own. Gay marriage is a totally new thing whose time may be coming, but let the states — let the people — come to grips with it at their own rates. Thirty years from now everyone, even folks in North Carolina, will wonder what all the fuss was about. And that’s as it should be.
However, this is not a case a progressive Democrat may reasonably make. Progressives believe the crushing power of the state is theirs to wield to get their way on everything from what health insurance people must buy, to which light bulbs they may not. And now we’re supposed to buy, “except for letting the gays marry?” Hell, if the progs thought they could get away with it — and give them four more years on Pennsylvania Avenue and they will — they’d mandate that the Catholic Church perform the ceremonies. And in drag.
So Joe Biden put his boss in a difficult position. Biden said straight out (no pun intended) that he’s all in favor of gay marriage. It wasn’t a big deal when Dick Cheney said the same thing, because he’s known to have respect for federalism, and because his boss was known for at least paying the notion some lip service. But when a progressive Veep says it, prog expectations are raised that his boss will wield the mighty power of state to do something. It’s what they do.
But this is in an election year, with the president losing his grip — has lost his grip? — on the independents who will choose November’s winner. And this election isn’t 30 years from now. It’s six months from now, and gay marriage is still very much a fussy issue, especially in swing states the Democrats need.
The contortions Biden has put this White House through have been a delight to watch.
First, David Axelrod came out (again, no pun intended) to walk it back, and insist that the White House was not, in fact, going to push for gay marriage. But then the next day Arne Duncan walked back the walk back, and said that, yes, he’s in favor. Obama was faced with a Veep and a cabinet officer making an issue out of an issue he’d been happy to “evolve” on, flexibly, until after the election. So then finally on Tuesday Obama settled on a Modified Limited Gitmo: Say some nice things while sitting on his hands.
Needless to say, the progressive Left is all up in arms over Obama’s “bullshit” maneuver. They know and understand the Modified Limited Gitmo, and they don’t like it one bit. Over the course of two days, Obama managed to appear like a vacillating weakling while annoying the middle and seriously pissing off his base.
The word you’re looking for here is “SCoaMF.” But it gets worse. Happily, wonderfully, gigglingly worse.

Well said and I think you’re exactly right.
Axelrod’s internal polling must be awful for them to be pulling out the high school bully card 6(!) months before the election. It looks like the story’s falling apart anyway – mocking is the best thing we can do to help it fall apart faster.
All true, but how do I pronounce SCoaMF?
SKOE-amf.
Great Advice VP! I’m thinking that the right wing blog o sphere already has this figured, make the clown the center of the clown show, such as this;’Prison Mullet Wins 40% Of WV Vote From SCOAMF’
Excellent analysis and particularly of the “third level.” If there is one thing the Left hates most it’s “mocking disdain.” After all they have spent decades convinving themselves that in every situation and in every setting they are always the “smartest guys in the room.” Telling them that they aren’t is something that drives them nuts. EVERYONE has to agree with the liberals estimation of themselves or face their juvenile wrath.
As for the Obama campaign – It is too early to write them off as “amateurs.” I agree that Bill Clinton is incapable of an unexpressed thought but he may be wrong on this one. The Obama campaign is professional in the way that Lenin was professional (until his stroke.) “The end is everything and the means don’t matter.” Obama is going to have a boatload of cash at his disposal and money buys professional expertise. Just look at the way about half a dozen different but well-financed strategies (“I Killed Bin Laden”, “War on Women”, the “Julia” thing etc.) have been “rolled out” in the last six weeks. Romney can win but he is going to have to be quck, agile and be able to think on his feet.
“Obama’s getting old and busted for me” is how I’m revealing my politics to new, default Democrat acquaintances. (It’s not quite true; he’s been old and busted for me since 2007.)
Obama is an amateur at presidentin’, but not at campaigning. Crucial difference.
As Tevye used to say, you’re both right.
Yes, they will do anything they can to win. And yes, they are utterly incompetent at doing so. “I killed Bin Laden”, the “War on Women”, “Julia”, the dog on the car, and now the bullying deal — all are backfiring, because all are embarrassingly laughable, or clear cases of projection, or both.
So point and giggle… and remember that Obama can’t stand to be ridiculed.
“I have only had one prayer: Lord, make my enemies ridiculous. And God granted it.”
– Voltaire
You hit the nail on it’s head!
“Ridicule” is the weapon against obama; isn’t one of Alinsky’s rules as well?
Yes, I agree.
And the GOP should produce a ton of videos with all the most crazy stuff said by Obama in all these years. Fast, aggressive, no comment or with a short “here he goes again” style comment.
You’re basing your ideas about gay marriage on the idea that minority’s declare the war won and settle down and close down their advocacy organizations. Well guess what, they don’t. They find new enemies and new bitches to whine about and get more Fed. dollars to support all the moaning. Minorities, already treated better than almost anywhere else in the world, will never shut up in America. This isn’t about marriage, it’s about a pound of flesh and it never, ever stops. If this weren’t so, gays would spend their time building statues to the men who ensure they don’t live under sharia – they don’t. Context means nothing cuz it’s all a sham; fake outrage and fake discrimination and GLBdliduf this and GLballdfu that and it’ll never stop.
I’d say look forward to the Babel Wars that will fracture America but they’ve already begun. The frontline is S. Cal which will be a de facto suburb of Mexico with the attendant shanty towns in a matter of a few years, a border area where a patois of English-Spanish is spoken. Next will be Texas. And the Feds will back up this dismemberment to the hilt. That is until the goose with the golden eggs gets tired and either dies or moves into a giant space station no one can sneak into. Congratulation Slippery Slope, you’re farther from reality than mankind has ever ventured before.
One can only pray for a timely asteroid strike.
But, does Obama actually stutter?
Yes!
Obama actually whistles through his teeth at the end of words. I find it annoying.
I believe that particular tic is called a ‘sibilant s,’ and yes, it is extremely annoying.
uh, uh, uh, yeah!
Best comment I’ve seen? Barry has finally come around to the Dick Cheney position on gay marriage.
The Twister™ is already trying to mock Mitt Romney for holding a position Obama held on Monday.
Don’t let the SCoaMF get away with it.
A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carried his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself.
Cicero
My husband thinks this applies to van jones. I think it applies to obama and his minions running this government.
Nobama!: “My husband thinks this applies to van jones. I think it applies to obama and his minions running this government.”
You are both right.
Romney has had problems with values voters and Obama’s gay marriage announcement has certainly helped him with that. Talk about solidifying and energizing the base!
It’s fun to think Mr. Green is right, but I don’t lose track of the fact that these people are vicious criminals who will do anything to hold onto their power.
At this point, there are a lot of data points based on history that say obama and his mafia are toast. But that’s history. It’s what Dick Morris depends on. And I just don’t think the crooks are depending on history. I think they are busy as beavers with another approach. It probably includes massively unprecedented voter fraud, media propaganda that is also massively greater than anything yet seen, and probably some wild cards we can only fear, and may not even be able to imagine; a war, federal police action, another engineered financial panic, shutting down the markets….who knows. It could be anything.
One thing I’m absolutely sure of is that they won’t stop at anything.
I firmly believe that the only thing that really stops them is the 200 million firearms in private hands and the fact that the miliary, even though it is “fighting for” obama, will not support a blatant coup.
Stephen and company,
You’re right, even though I want public humiliation of the progressives who have been systematically destroying our country and its traditions which worked so well until about 1900. It’s too important this time. These people must be put out of power and it needs to be in both the executive branch and the entire Congress. That will be humiliating enough.
If the old media wasn’t so shamelessly in the bag for the progressives, the last weeks events would actually be quite funny. Obama and his lefty friends are so far out of touch with reality it is amazing to witness. However, because the voters sometimes are not paying attention, to fully understand the mistake made three and a half years ago the following events would be helpful:
-SCOTUS shoots down Obamacare and finds the Arizona immigration legislation constitutional,
- The Euro scheme comes apart,
-Petroleum resumes its upward spiral,
-GDP and unemployment scrape along as they have for the last 36 months,
-Keystone passes Congress by veto proof majority,
-EPA shuts down 1/4 of the US’s coal fired power plants by summer’s end,
- summer temperatures are the hottest on record,
-Eric Holder stays in the AG’s office,
-Dems move convention out of NC,
-Israel decides the time has come to kick some Persian nuclear a$$,
-Joe Biden, the Colonel Klink of American politics, remains VP;
I figure a combo of those events should pretty much guarantee that the comedy will continue until it ends in January.
Yeah, you know what? That will be plenty enough humiliation for me.
The longer that gas stays at $4, the less money working people will have, and we’re not talking pennies, here. When Mommy and Daddy cancel their vacations because Obama and Chu have other plans, even Mommy will start to think Republicans ain’t so bad, and would you rather be married to Obumbles or Mitt?
Regardless of you opinion on his wishyness, Mitt “rescues boaters in trouble, along with ther dog” is a real man, and Obama looks like the first gay ex-President.
Mr Green,
A wonderful read I thouroughly enjoyed…you are so right.
Just one teeeeeny thing bothers me:
“laugh at all of it. The contortions, the spins, the lies — they’re all so pathetically and rib-achingly funny. In three-plus decades of watching politics, I’ve never witnessed anything so desperately, hysterically funny”
I could almost say the same for Islam. So completely indefensible, so perfectly false and disingenuous in every claim and grievance, its a laughing stock that gets worse every day.
Yeah, worse…every day.
With the academia/media army on their side, and any serious debate of their truthful characters utterly verboten outside the blogs and water coolers, they simply grow and grow.
No matter how laughable they really are.
So in the end, after the chuckes, I fear Obama has about the SAME chance as Islam….
of being a ball-breaking pain in my ass, for much much longer than I’d prefer.
Dude.
That “has lost his grip?” link:
http://www.correntewire.com/obama_tanking_with_independents_losing_moderate_voters
is from April 2008… what gives?
I don’t know — Dewey took the high road against Truman. Hell, Teddy Roosevelt Jr. took the high road in New York against his OWN COUSIN and Eleanor (!) ruined his political career. If you want someone to really get his hands dirty, go with Christie. He will eat Biden alive.
Yeah. I agree. The fat guy from Jersey would be a good choice for this election.
Which leads us to the stupidest thing I read all week — Mark Halperin’s report about how “confident” the Obama campaign is about their chances this fall.
Democrat overconfidence is a blessing. Republican overconfidence would be a serious danger. An incumbent President, even one as bad as Obama, is hard to dislodge.
As Instapundit warns us, Don’t get cocky.
Why are the “sealed documents” off the table?
For all we know, Oblamebush might not even have any diplomas. But it would be fun to see what courses he took and what his grades were.
How come on our side of we don’t have some multi-millionaire offering $1 million for his transcripts?
Absolutely. It is astonishing to me how the Right has treated Obama’s past with kid gloves.
Treacher has taken the gloves off. His example needs to be followed at large.
Breitbart’s legacy demands no less.
I always thought that some short clips of some of his more ridiculous pronouncements, with a laugh track that starts with a few titters, then progressive builds to guffaws, would be an effective commercial.
Then maybe throw in an audience shot from time-to-time, with the last one where the audience has donned those 3d glasses you used to see in the 50′s, and see how it goes.
Obama’s task is about to get harder. EU officials are now admitting the continent is in recession. Hollande is doing an Obama impersonation and saying “Gee, things are worse that we thought – Sarkozy’s fault!” China and India are reporting slowing growth. The will be no recovery summer this year.
It’s still the economy, and there’s going to be no help for Obama on that front any time soon.
Speaking of mockable, today’s LATimes piece telling us that Obama Is Just Too Intellectual to be President evoked spews of coffee from a number of my UT Law buddies. Yeah, the President of the Harvard Law Review and U of Chi Con Law professor who managed to get through his entire legal education without any awareness of Marbury v Madison and its significance is just too intelligent to be the president of such a nation of imbeciles. Right.
We’ve got $10k being offered for Obama’s transcripts. Next week’s press release should be asking what is Obama’s favorite charity and saying if Obama releases his own scripts, that charity will get the money. The question then becomes why is Obama so meanspirited and scrooge like.
So why is he?
Because he is a classic narcissist. Nothing that does not benefit him directly is worthy of his notice let alone effort.
For those tax returns that have been released, until he became involved in public office he gave little or nothing to charity, later increasing to a modest level as a business expense for appearance sake.
Dead people:
Homosexuality is a sin and it always will be. So what does it say about the people who have come accept it as the norm. It says the people have lost their way and are living in the dark. The truth is that homosexuality is not the only sin, just one of many. Think of murder, is that a sin? Think of stealing, is that a sin? How about adultery, is that a sin? The thing about sin is that it hurts people, hurting people offends God. I can hear someone saying well it didn’t affect you, so why do you care what I do? Sin affects everybody in the family, even if uncle Bob is the only one who speaks up and you call him crazy.
How perverted will society become if we tolerate sin of any kind? How long will it take before it destroys us all? One two or three generations, how long before we can’t tell the difference between right and wrong?
It’s already started hasn’t it?
So what? People have a right to go to Hell, and you have no right to interfere. Mind your own business, and leave others to mind theirs.
If you knew that an approaching car was coming much too fast to negotiate the upcoming bend in the road, would you interfere? After all, he has the right to drive at the speed he wants. So, let him take a shortcut to Hell, and spend the rest of his life brain damaged.
Christians know that Hell is infinitely worse than the above, and some feel it is their duty to prevent others from suffering such a horrible fate. Such a person can’t “mind his own business”, for he fully expects G-d to ask him why he did nothing to help that poor soul who is now suffering for all of eternity.
90% of all human wisdom consists of minding one’s own business.
“If we tolerate?”
What’s the difference between your statement and totalitarianism?
the difference is you can ignore his statement, totalitarianism not so much.
Done!
boy am i tired of hearing what some people consider to be a “sin”. i don’t see any references to “sin” in the constitution.
Jeffrey, you’re no better than the most strident liberal screaming for “hate speech” laws, gun bans or any other form of totalitarianism. I am anything but a wild-eyed “revolution” nut, but I would take up my personal arms in violent opposition to exactly the kind of society you describe.
Maybe you should head for Afghanistan. You might feel more at home there; they don’t tolerate sin of any kind, either.
BHO is going to loose in November. This is just one of the many, many reasons why
I’m all on board with th derision thing, but in order for this to be effective an matter, a whole lot of voters need to be as well.
How many voters even pay attention too, or are aware of, the President’s and his minions’ looniness?
Dick Cheney spoke out in favor of gay marriage before Obozo even thought of trying to evolve for political expediency
Let’s see … Evolution is the change in a genome via mutation.
The President says that his political DNA is evolving.
So he must now be our Mutant-in- Chief.
All this is true, yes; but well, Big O went to a dog eating at Clooney’s place just two days after completing his evolution on homosexual marriage and collected $15 million in contributions in one evening. That looks like exquisite timing if you ask me.
Well said, and I agree wholeheartedly that we should mock Obama relentlessly, and also confront the leftist media for their nonsense directly, as Tom Carney did on MSNBC before he was cut off.
But I don’t think for a second that Biden made a “gaffe” at all. That was staged. Oh, they had to move up the timetable, and needed an excuse for doing it now.
My theory is that the original plan was for Obama to take his meaningless position in his acceptance speech at the convention. It would have been that rarest of things in modern politics – real news from a convention! The buzz and the media frenzy of giddy celebration would have helped divert attention from the record of failure Obama doesn’t want to bring up.
But the Glory Train 2012 hasn’t been bringing in the bucks like they expected. Having pissed off Wall Street, contributions are down from expectations there (although still more than to GOP or Romney), and fully 20% of Obama’s top bundlers are openly gay and not happy. Meanwhile, his campaign has been spending money at an unprecedented rate – evidently they budgeted on the $1 billion that no one mentions anymore.
They needed to shake the money tree badly and soon. Biden’s remarks were no gaffe – I realized this when Arne Duncan followed the next day. It was a set-up from the get-go.
the most hilarious part is that he pulled the gay card from under the bus where he threw them at the beginning of his regime. now he needs them one more time. they are a bit wrinkled but none worse for the wear that they can’t be reused, or in the spirit of the times, recycled. i have seen this M.O. before “for a hamburger today i will gladly pay you on Tuesday”. Wimpy calender goes as such, Wed Thurs Fri Sat Sun Mon Wed. oops no Tuesday so you’re gonna wait for a long time. We have waiting room under the bus.
I read the Mark Halpern piece and it was so surreal in tone and character I forgot to laugh. It’s the kind of make-a-wish-upon-the-Obama-star journalistic malpractice we have come to expect from the left.
I would like to say that I will be rather sorry for Obamabots everywhere the day after the election. They will realize that their Dear leader was the anomaly so many of us said he was from the very beginning of his presidency.
But the sadist part of it will not be all those people in Chicago crying their little eyes out after Election Day. It will be millions—some believe as much as forty percent of eligible voters (factoring out the voter fraud)—that tried to give this unmitigated disaster a second term.
Stephen Green is exactly right: the only way to beat Obama is with constant, scathing contempt and sarcasm. Make his name a joke.
There was no rational reason for Obama to be elected in 2008. Consider: Obama did not have any resume of executive experience in the private or public sector. He had completed only 1 term as a state senator and was still in his first term as an U.S. senator. He wasn’t the leader of a popular movement, religion or philosophy, and his primary claim to fame was that he wrote 2 autobiographies. So how did this non-entity defeat both Hillary Clinton and the hapless John McCain to become president? He ran as a celebrity, not a politician.
The vast majority of voters have little or no interest in politics. Most peoples’ passions involve some aspect of the popular culture and their heroes are musicians, actors, athletes, or others on the fringe. Obama, well coiffed and attired, was seen in glamorous venues with these popular “heroes” who counted him as one of their own and sang his praises. Result: Obama was an instant celebrity, and his campaign cashed in on that persona on the way to the White House.
Obama’s celebrity status accounts for his popularity despite the execrable performance of his administration: people admire him because he is “cool” and “awesome” (if you don’t believe me, just ask Oprah!) and not for any practical reason.
The “celebrity factor” is what makes Obama so difficult to beat: he isn’t held to the same standards as other politicians; he just has to continue being the awe-inspiring Obama to earn re-election. Unfortunately, you can’t take the shine off Obama’s celebrity persona by talking policies, you must attack the man himself. And as Stephen has illustrated, that must be done by surrogates (conservative press and us) to keep Romney above the fray.
If this prescription is followed, there may be some hope for the country after all.
You can’t make fun of him now because, according to the cover of Time, he is gay. No bullying allowed against gay people.
I agree that this is a deliberate distraction by Obama. I agree he doesn’t really care about homosexuals.
But I disagree that same-sex marriage is a minor issue. We are talking about redefining marriage to mean “anything you want”. Besides the havoc this will wreak upon families and children, it opens the door for anyone and everyone else to claim their relationship is a “marriage”.
Sorry, but this is not something that one day I’ll look back on and wonder what the fuss was about.
