Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill inadvertently explains why we hold our political class is such low regard:
“I have convinced my husband to sell the damn plane,” she says. “He has hired a broker, and I can tell you I will never set foot on the plane again.”
Poor thing, having to endure the hardships of private plane ownership. Maybe being a Senator is just too much for Claire. She should consider retirement.

I used to live in her district in Missouri. I would write her and try to convince her not to vote for Obamacare.
I wrote a few times over a few months period and she would always send back the same form letter saying how much money it would save the country and how better coverage it would bring. But mostly it would be a money saver.
She’s nice enough and her staff responds in a timely manner. But I’d bet odds that she won’t be re-elected.
Or as Ace put it:
She says she’ll now “sell the damn plane.”
In related news, OJ Simpson is going to “sell the damn knife.”
Ba-dump-bump.
I’m not sure that’s a fair comparison, Lord. I’m pretty sure O.J. paid the taxes on that knife.
Ms. McCaskill wrote a check for over $280k to cover her tax debt. She did not request a payment plan because she was confident that a check for that huge sum would clear. Let us glory in this example of a rich person redistributing money to the people.
Add this as yet another reason for me to never live in Missouri. I own a private plane, a 1967 Piper Cherokee 140. It’s present value is less than $30,000 which is less than a lot of new cars. Not every private plane is a jet and not every plane owner is rich, more the pity.
