    Saving kids isn’t nearly as important as paying back the teachers’ unions.

    Whenever I hear any variation on “Save the…!” — such as “Save the children!” — I can’t help but hear the disembodied voice of H.L. Mencken adding, “…for dessert.”

    Wouldn’t it be cheaper to hire good principals and then give them the authority to actually control their schools?
