Where Are They Now?

Glenn Reynolds observes:
Meanwhile, I have to note that whenever I turn on talk radio I hear a caller lamenting Fred Thompson’s absence from the race. I have to wonder, though, just how many of those people actually donated money or volunteered in his campaign.
VodkaPundit asks: What campaign?

Indeed, what campaign. It was so incredibly bad, it makes me think that Thompson didn’t really want to run for president, but felt somehow obliged by the draft-Fred-movement. A brief moment of vanity made him say yes, before he realized that turning himself into a freakshow 24/7 (aka running for POTUS) was not his cup of tea. That’s actually a sign of sanity.
We long ago gave up on electing statesmen. Perhaps the statesmen are giving up on even trying.
G’bye, Fred and Duncan. We hardly knew ye.
BTW, Steve. You are on freakin’ fire lately.
Resist all you like, you were born to blog politics. Hell, you were born to blog.
“What campaign?” you ask.
The one that sent me a letter thanking me for donating a week after he withdrew.
I miss Fred from this “conservative by convenience” versus “maverick non-conservative” race… what has the GOP descended into? Is PJ O’Rourke’s quip true, that Republicans are the party that say government doesn’t work, and then get elected and prove it?
BTW, I gave $125 to Fred, including on the eve of SC when everyone said he was a distant third…
