Strom Thurmond is dead at 100, according to this South Carolina The State obit, which was mostly collated during the Ford Administration.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to duck a bunch of nasty emails, telling again me how nasty I’ve been.

Few states have been as well served by their senator as South Carolina was by Throm. You might mention how many people paid their respects at his lying in state. He was a glider pilot at Normandy when he was in his forties, when today we have seen our politicians avoid military service. You might try reading Armstrong Williams comments about the man. I was honored to have met this gentleman, a term that died along time ago in this country.
Yeah, what a gentleman. Upheld segregation well into the Civil Rights era, while having secretly fathered a child with a black woman (i.e., committed the then-crime of “miscegenation”). Not to mention that he groped more women in the Capitol than Ted Kennedy and Bob Packwood combined. [spits on ground]
