The flood of illegal aliens, including thousands under the age of 18, at the border has gotten major media coverage in the past couple of weeks. The Obama administration acts as if it was caught off-guard by the massive influx of Central Americans who have traveled across Mexico to get into the United States.
But it wasn’t surprised at all.
A recently discovered government request for “escort services for unaccompanied alien children” dating back to January is raising questions about whether the government was planning for a surge of illegal immigrants this year as amnesty talks heated up in the United States.
The request specifically says it was preparing for 65,000 undocumented children.
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed the request to TheBlaze, which is for transportation companies to escort children from the U.S.-Mexico border to relocation facilities throughout the United States. The conservative website Weasel Zippers was among the first to notice it.
That’s an official Homeland Security solicitation for vendors to offer the government proposals to ship the illegal aliens, and it’s dated January 29, 2014. The government has confirmed that it is genuine.
It gets specific:
Transport will be required for either category of [Unaccompanied Minors] or individual juveniles, to include both male and female juveniles. There will be approximately 65,000 UAC in total: 25 percent local ground transport, 25 percent via ICE charter and 50 percent via commercial air. Escort services include, but are not limited to, assisting with: transferring physical custody of UAC [Unaccompanied Alien Children] from DHS to Health and Human Services (HHS) care via ground or air methods of transportation (charter or commercial carrier).
The Obama administration has been pushing for passage of the Senate-approved “comprehensive immigration reform” bill. That bill grants a pathway to legalization for millions of illegal aliens in the United States. It is also supposed to provide more border security, but Obama’s handling of other laws leads to reasonable suspicion that once he gets the whole law passed, he will simply ignore the security components.
The flood of illegal aliens has been building for weeks, but really came to a head in the media in the days leading up to the Virginia primary, in which House Majority Leader Rep. Eric Cantor was unexpectedly defeated. Cantor was seen by Democrats as the key to get the Republican-controlled House of Representatives to pass the Senate bill. Democrat Rep. Luis Gutierrez had been simultaneously courting Cantor and using protesters to denounce him over the immigration bill.
The illegal aliens themselves appear to be using scripted answers when apprehended by US Border Patrol, telling officials that they left their home countries because they feared gang violence. Many of them, though, admit that they are hearing stories in their local media telling them that the US will not turn them away or send them home after they have crossed the border, and that now is the time to cross — ahead of any potential changes in US immigration law.
