So you think you’re a committed Republican? You think that you have what it takes to stage a successful protest?
If you want to see what you’re up against, and see just how committed Democrats are to winning — then just click here. Or don’t, if you’re at work or don’t want to lose your lunch.
Those people stripped down to nothing in Washington in the wintertime to protest even the possibility of entitlement reform in the fiscal cliff negotiations. They came up with catchy rhyme and everything. Deep thoughts about our nation’s fiscal plight? Nah.
They laugh at your notion of “commitment.”
Side note: The Politico reporter who snapped that pic proudly fronts his awards from leftist advocacy groups right there in his Twitter bio. Conflict of interest, Politico? Apparently not. That kind of “reporting” truly is among the things we’re up against.
Those of us in flyover country keep thinking that silly, stupid protests like a bunch of people getting naked and yelling banalities at the House speaker will turn off voters. Yet “reporters” like the Politico’s man treat them as credible, and Democrats keep winning elections.

I’m not committed to a political party. I am committed to the country. For Republicans, this is not an unusual position. For Democrats, the party is mother, the party is father. In their mind, the country itself is just an after-effect of public policy.
In the words of Greg Gutfield: “If America was a house, Liberals would be in favor of the termites”
“I’m not committed to a political party — I am committed to the country.”
Good for you!
The democrat party was slowly taken over by radicals of the socialist progressives and now the republican party is sufferring an effort by the radical evangelical christians and libertarians to take it over.
People often think that the progressives successes have come to fruition by overreaching government legislation when in fact, they were smart enough to recognize that their greatest tool was the judical debate and rullings of the constitutions welfare and tax clauses. In due time the supreme court concluded that “…to impose taxes and to spend money for the general welfare subject almost entirely to Congress’s own discretion.” In short, the progressives used settled constitutional issues to gain their successes.
On the other hand, the tea part evangelical and libertarian movements proceed void of any such valid or settled constitutionl tools in their efforts. Rather, while claiming to be strict constitutionalists, they declare thier enemy as the centrist or moderate members of the GOP, dividing and destroying the very party they claim and run within.
I have yet to hear any valid constitional basis for their platforms of ‘social’ reforms via the powers of the federal government. Talk about federal government overreach and constitutional illegitimacy! They are however, paving the way for a very long stretch of democrat party supremacy and a fractured, irrelevant republican party. They are long on loud with emotional and bizare rhetoric and sorely short on legitimate constitutional strategies for unity within or across any party lines.
Fortunately we have deliberately ill-informed people like you to save us.
The first is impossible and not even being attempted–more on that later below–and the second would be exactly what the Founders intended and the Constitution demands. Limited, enumerated powers…contrast to what we have now…equals libertarian.
That reply was for Zeke.
– outside into the snow, let it freeze, and leave it there.
Bill Whittle described it best. He says liberals are like the grass. They get mowed down, and immediately, before you’ve even got your lawn mower put away, they’re growing again. Conservatives cannot, must not, ever rest until liberalism is reduced to a few crazies in the corner muttering to themselves about how great the 60′s, lava lamps, Clinton & Obama were.
Not until the public “education” system indoctrination AND pedantry are destroyed.
Until then conservatives/libertarians/Republicans are farting into the wind.
Why is it that the people who want to go naked in public are the last people you want to see naked?
As to your point, Bryan, yes. The GOP is fast becoming the Stupid Party through and through, but hasn’t the…ahem…balls to do what’s necessary. That would require creative and tough choices such as changing the abortion plank to “get the government completely out of the abortion business”, going back to its Lincoln roots and attracting non-Caucasians, and actually standing for smaller government and lower taxes, instead of being the me-too big government party. But when more people know who’s going naked in public than who’s the vice president, anything requiring critical thinking is likely to fail.
Bill:
I know you’re not suggesting naked Republicans, but please define “committment” in this context.
Thanks.
There are only 2 words that the left understands, the only two words that they will ever understand, or care about.
“We won.”
They don’t abandon “the system” when they’re losing, they win the culture war by being the bigger attention-w****s and browbeating the holy hell out of everyone until their opponents don’t have the will to fight fire with fire.
Meanwhile the right keeps screaming “Well, so what, we lost, at least we have PRINCIPLE!”
But that’s not stopping things from going deeper and deeper into the shitter, is it?
As long as you don’t care about “We Won”, you’ll never win.
So we should emulate the mentally unstable and emotionally stunted?
No thanks.
Bend, don’t break.
It is my firm belief that many of the injunctions in the Epistles are not there because they are how things should always be, but because they were secular tactical concerns about things that would stop the Way cold in that time and place. If you threatened the local men in their utter domination of women without them feeling any need to respect them, they would chase you out of town. If you threatened the rich vis a vis their slaves, you might become one (or dead)–and the infant churches in an area would die, and the Way would be stillborn. The same thing goes with respecting the authorities. All things that would have stopped the church cold–as it was almost stopped.
Therefore, bend, don’t break.
Show me a coin. Who made it? Man. It is Casear’s, not God’s. Then why is God’s name on it? Let Caesar have his coin if he wishes. Does a being who could inscribe “In God We Trust” on every coin by whim truly need your help in glorification? It’s a nice gesture, to be sure–but if it hurts the cause of man’s Liberty and the Way then discard it, or at least offer to. It is useless to fight for that which only retards the work.
It is useless to fight for that which only retards the work. It is useless to fight for that which only retards the work. Therefore, Bend. Don’t break.
Not too hard to tell -in that pic- who are/were the “…studies” majors. Card -carrying members of the “New Flu(n)ke School” first graduating class. Whewee!
@8. Anonymous: DON’T bend, break THEM — as long as you still have the power to do so — by whatever means necessary, BREAK these miserable SOB’s (and DOB’s) — you have the moral and ethical RIGHT to do so — in SELF-DEFENSE. (Gandhi’s way is for later, in case you lose, but for now: STRIKE)
Who cares what “they” say about you. THEY never tell the truth, anyway, even when you’re being decorous and decent. They haven’t done so in over 70 years. Use THEIR Alinsky methods against them. Even when that irks you because you have no practice in that method, learn; even when it goes against the grain!
Remember, this is a power struggle, although “cold civil war” would better describe it. These are its rules:
>There are no rules. Winning IS all.
>What rules there were, favored them, and disfavored you.
>There are NO REAL referees, just public opinion. It is fickle, emotional, NOT reasoned. (Hint: It LOVES WINNERS. BE ONE.)
>What “referees” there are, rule against you, mostly bought and paid for by THEM.
>This is “dirty fighting”; street fighting. That was THEIR choice, long ago.
>To grant this ancient choice is the ONLY MORAL “obligation” you have, and…
>The ONLY way to win: DENY them their ASSUMED right to DICTATE YOUR “rules of engagement”. To be clear: They have NO SUCH RIGHT!
>Remember: the best “defense” is usually a vigorous attack. ATTACK! (THEIR example!)
>Have NO REGRETS, once you destroy (one of) them. NOTHING to feel guilty about. The takers came to enslave you; you “schooled” them; THEY perished. GOOD for you!
Will this be fun? I don’t think so. Easy? No way! Necessary? Absolutely! I’m convinced of that; convinced nothing else will work.
Mr. Preston, I seem to remember you arguing earlier that any attempt to moderate away from the current abortion plank in the GOP platform was tantamount to throwing out SoCons.
Consider then the socons must not be committed either to the GOP or to actually preventing so much as one abortion by federal power, but are only committed to posing themselves as opposing abortion. The current extreme GOP position is that all abortions done for any reason at any time by any means are a homicide, and likely a murder–although some for no defensible reason think exceptions permitting it are warranted in the event of a rape or pregnancy. Consider that flubbing answers to questions about this very simple issue likely cost us two Senate seats, and that our extreme stand can’t be said to have garnered us one seat anywhere. No progress has been made to defining human life for federal purposes, as the several amendments protecting individual liberties implicitly demand, and no progress has been made towards overturning the ludicrous Roe v Wade decision. At this rate, nor ever will it be.
The Democrat Party plank on abortion is equally extreme, opposite, supported 100% by far fewer in the national population than the GOP plank, and results in the murder of babies.
It should be easy think of a way to not require socons to disavow what they claim is their goal, actually prevent some abortions from happening, and set the groundwork for making further progress.
The human life amendment GOP plank should be modified to state that federally protected life has begun in the third trimester or earlier as defined by federal law, but that Congress may not place it’s limit into the first trimester, state law notwithstanding; that human life has not yet begun at conception, state law notwithstanding, and begins at some point defined by the state; and the federal courts must defer to state law in any jurisdiction where a pregnancy is at issue and is between the extents so defined in federal law. Then keep the fight at the state level.
The “War On Women” meme which has profited the Dems so much nationally is then gone, some abortions are in fact prohibited, Roe v Wade is gone, federal law actually matches the general public opinion far more closely, and the SoCons are free to militate for any further change they like–and will have all the success their persuasive powers merit.
Are you committed to actually moving the goalposts back our way? Or are you committed to seeming to oppose the Democrats?
Every time conservatives reach back to a religious source to justify resistance to some progressive measure — or to argue for a return to constitutional principles — the argument repels anyone who isn’t already a believer.
Please take this to heart and never forget it: Biblical and other religious arguments have no power whatsoever to move non-believers.
To non-believers the Bible is just a book. It and the words written in it contain no sacred power, no ultimate truth.
If there is any hope for conservative ideas and principles to guide this country, the arguments must be made on practical, secular grounds.
If conservatives can win the wholehearted support of people who are socially liberal yet fiscally and constitutionally conservative, we would never be stuck with the likes of Obama and his ilk.
Believe what you like in your personal life, ground your moral code wherever you see wisdom. But simply as matter of good sense, keep religious views out of public policy.
