Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.) said today on MSNBC that the religious community needs to be more involved in sparing entitlement programs from cuts.
“What really surprises me — and I don’t want to get involved in controversy, is the absence of our spiritual community on these issues. I can’t for the life of me see how Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security and education are Democratic issues. They’re humane issues. It’s what the country is about,” said the congressman, who won re-election with more than 90 percent of the vote earlier this month.
“And whether you’re Catholic or Protestant, Jew or gentile, it seems to me that this is a fight for America to protect those things that makes us different from other countries,” he said.
Rangel decried arguments of letting the private sector step in as not having “any place in our society.”
“Let capitalism do what they want, but let America take care of its sick and its aging,” he said.
Rangel did acknowledge, though, that Medicare “has to be reviewed,” but branded the looming fiscal cliff an “emergency situation.”
“If we gotta reform the tax system, we can’t do it between now and the end of the year. And that’s where most of the problems are going to exist,” he said. “If we’re going to improve Obamacare, we can’t do it this year.”
“I think there’s enough for the American people not just to get fed up; that’s the easy way out. Fed up. Don’t vote. Curse the Congress,” Rangel said. “Participate. Call, and tell them, tell us, ‘Get off the dime. You’re paying our salaries, and our pensions,’ at my age, I might add. So you might as well get your money’s worth, and insist that we produce.”

“… you might as well get your money’s worth, and insist that we produce.”
Government produces NOTHING.
Charlie, when you tell me how you are going to pay for those ‘entitlements’ without taking my capitalist money, I might take you seriously. Until then, you are simply a clown.
to me that this is a fight for America to protect those things that makes us different from other countries,
It’s this type of socialism that has driven Europe to the brink, Charlie. Not having the government provide all those things is what makes us different from other countries.
Twit.
Why do we need to improve Obamacare? I thought they told us it’s perfect. I mean they have all the information from that other great single payer system at the VA.
Charlie has given me so many wonderful things to comment on here but so little time.
– your own amassed fortune, Charlie.
Thanks to the Federal Reserve and other insane Federal policies (leaving the gold standard, etc.),the dollar is now only worth 4 cents of what the dollar was worth just before the Federal Reserve was started. This inflation has made it impossible for American families to have a decent standard of living on one income unless the breadwinner is a six figure professional. That, in turn, has made it financially impossible for anyone to have their aging parents come live with them, nobody will be home to help as needed. THAT is why our old are having to be WAREHOUSED in “care facilities”, and why we rarely get the time to visit them. And Rangel says it’s “AMERICA’S job” to take care of them?? The American government,at this point, could screw up a two car parade, just as they have darn near every Federal program,ESPECIALLY health care and Social Security, all full of waste, corruption, theft and incompetence, including the running of the military of late. We need to CHANGE Washington’s way of doing things, and crazy politicians like Rangel ought to be locked up where they can’t cause any more harm to the people.
Rangel’s still not in prison?
