Every outbreak of hostilities in Israel and the Palestinian Territories is accompanied by a parallel protest outbreak in the U.S., as supporters of the Palestinian position and the Israeli position face off wherever there is an Israeli consulate or a large Arab-American population (primarily in California, New York and Michigan).
The latest Israeli-Palestinian conflict is no exception. Last night, San Francisco (http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2012/11/15/18725746.php), New York (http://nycal.mayfirst.org/node/10234) and Los Angeles (http://la.indymedia.org/calendar/event_display_detail.php?event_id=9194&day=15&month=11&year=2012) all saw protests in front of Israeli consulates, although none of them received much if any media coverage.
Luckily, PJMedia contributor Ringo swung by the L.A. protest just as it was wrapping up, and took this video of a Palestinian supporter spitting at the feet of the five pro-Israel supporters on hand, after a passing Palestinian man called the Israelis “Nazis”:

For the last 10 or 15 years, the script for these Near East conflicts and attendant American protests is always the same: Palestinian militants launch mortars, rockets or suicide attacks at Israel; Israel eventually gets fed up and launches a punitive raid to find and root out the attackers; the media (and leftist activists) ignore the original Palestinian violence which precipitated the raid, and dub the incident “unprovoked Israeli aggression”; protesters show up at consulates in major cities around the world and condemn the Israelis but not the Palestinians; everybody accuses everybody else of being a Nazi and a terrorist and a war criminal; the Israelis kill some of the attackers, then withdraw, and everything settles back down to “normal” (i.e. a tense existential standoff).
There is an additional protest scheduled for today in San Francisco, but at the moment it’s pouring rain, so I’ll likely skip it. If any readers have links to coverage of protests in other cities, post them in the comments and I’ll try to keep this post updated with the latest on the “homefront” war.

Rktman, I am aware there are libraries and internet sites full of information about this conflict, but the key is getting a balanced account. Doing a “Google” won’t get me very far, other than resign in complete confusion after getting tens of millions of hits. Much of what I read in the MSM is vitriolic, almost illogical, hatred against Jewish statehood. Therefore, any references they provide, are obviously biased or based on weird conspiracy theories.
Anyone can see WHAT is happening, but I want to be able to understand much more about the WHY; beyond the headlines, tweets and 40 second sound bites. Throw religion into the mix and there’s bound to be multiple interpretations of simple facts.
Its apparent that to really understand the issues you have to go back through thousands of years of history to accurately map the source of the current conflict. So, rather than paw through volumes of ancient and modern history texts, I was simply looking for a few short cuts (eg. authors, good sites) that others may have come across and recommend.

Where is the proportional outrage?
A much smaller number of Palestinians have been killed by Israel in 64 years since their state was founded in their many wars and conflict with the Palestinians than the Syrians forces killed in their first year and a half of civil conflict. Even UN appointed Judge Goldstone had to admit that the Israelis did not indiscriminately target the people of Gaza in their previous invasion. This is not the case in Syria.
Why is there a roar of outrage against Israel but only a whimper of outrage against the Syria government, forces and the supporting nations? Why are the attackers in Gaza such cowards that they have to hide behind masks and launch their attacks from among civilians? Why are the protesters not denouncing their endangering of Gazan civilians and randomly targeting of Israelis – many of whom are civilians?
There’s nothing to be puzzled about. The pro-Hamas protesters aren’t worried at all by brutal wars and dead Arabs – that is just for image/propaganda purposes. If they were, they would surely note that Israel has dropped 800 smart bombs and guided missiles on Gaza – while killing 25 Palestinians in the process, that is: about the number of people that are killed by the average Iraqi suicide bomber. I believe that makes it one of the most pinpoint, surgical campaigns in the history of warfare.
But they don’t care, because what troubles them is not the violence – The ME and NA are full of the most brutal Muslim violence, responsible for millions upon millions of deaths – but the mere existence of Israel and its continuing will to survive.

Actually reading any well researched history paints a very different picture of what has happened in the Middle East as compared to the superficial distorted narrative of the protester. It is interesting to note that there were Arabs living in Jerusalem and the surrounds in the earlier part of the twentieth century that got on well with their Jewish neighbours. Perhaps it would have been better had outside politicians simply let those living in Palestine work out things for themselves.
Where are these protestors when a Qadaffi or a Sadam Hussein or a Bashir Assad or a Mahmoud Ahmadenijad murder millions of fellow Muslims? Why is there never outrage when Palestinian terrorists blow up innocent women and children, even when there are Muslims nearby who will also be killed? Apparently Muslims murdering Muslims is hunkey-dorey with these protestors.
