Are they going to start deserting Obama the way they are Bashar Assad? Probably not. Assad is a murderer. Obama has just been an atrocious president.
Nevertheless, Niall Ferguson’s attack on Obama for Newsweek, of all places, and The Daily Beast could be the tip of a coming iceberg, even though Ferguson is a former McCain supporter. His analysis of the Obama presidency is so thorough and devastating it cannot be completely ignored by the mainstream media, no matter how much they may wish to.
If I were in the Romney campaign, I would reread the article several times and commit it to memory. The candidate himself should do that too.

– mystery writer, Roger. What’s Tina’s play? Romney economy will save Newsweek?
Is it too late and too far from shore for the crew of sinking “D.N.C. NewsWeak” to save themselves? Donkeys can swim but there are limits.
Rats have been known to tread water for three days. I wonder if that’s also true for jackasses?
I think Tina’s decision was calculated. It may be the one and only time anyone to the right of Stalin has ever bought her magazine. It’s kind of like having a garage sale before the foreclosure hearing.
My confusion is the motive of Newsweek and Daily Beast. They are vanity Leftist propaganda organs with a deep pockets owner. They don’t have to pay attention to financial reality, and indeed they are about to shift to totally online publication. So this allowing this to be published, so prominently, has to have an ideological component. This is as close to a violation of Article 58 of the RSFSR Penal Code as you can find in the US.
Why did they publish the truth for a change? Totally out of character.
Subotai Bahadur
I usually regard these sorts of articles as the apparatchik media’s way of trying preserve a veneer of objectivity. “How can you say we are totally in the tank for the Democrats? Look at this article that isn’t anti-Republican!”
Its just a shame this is appearing in Newsweek. If it were to appear in almost any other magazine, it would probably reach an audience.
I think it’s getting an audience. It’s been on top of Drudge all day long. If you want it to get more, tweet it. I did.
It’s a great one to tweet BECAUSE it comes from Newsweek. The other side might read it for once. As for Tina’s motivation for publishing this, well, I don’t know. But the important point is what Ferguson has written. Pass it on.
You bought Newsweek because of the article.
Asked and answered as far as Brown’s motivations go.
Has the Obamee economy been kind to her? I’m thinking not. I’m thinking she rather agrees with Niall. I’m thinking they’ve run the numbers and like myself, have come to the determination that the only possible outcome in November is going to be a Romney victory and GOP taking control of the Senate.
The Senate then rids itself of the filibuster and Obameecare dies in January or February along with the EPA, and a host of other government departments.
The fiscal cliff is averted by the Romney/Ryan tax cuts, which become permanent.
What Tina is doing is “jumping to the winning side”.
Please relax sometime after that OCTOBER SURPRISE !
Let’s imagine that they have adults running the magazine. Let’s imagine that these adults compare the circulation of the Romney “wimp” issue with this issue. Let’s project that this issue gets 10x the circulation that the “wimp” issue did when it was released.
In our thought experiment, these imaginary adults running Newsweek might conclude that the great disparity in circulation is proof that they have misunderstood their audience and that the best remedy to fixing Newsweek as a business concern is to change the editorial voice at the magazine so as to more closely match the mood of the audience of this country that lives outside the banks of the Hudson and East rivers, which as it turns out is considerably more conservative and pro-American than what is normally served up in the magazine.
A stalking horse? Newsweek?
Or a raindrop of truth in an ocean of slander…allowing one article to appear that will have been preceded by thousands and to be followed by tens of thousands…so that any protest of unfairness can be pointed toward the single entry with the exclamation…”look at this, these whiners aren’t happy no matter how fair we are”.
I don’t trust the small c communists and I don’t trust their Propaganda and Lies Ministry either. I appreciate the article. But if it appears completely out of character it’s only because it is…and something nefarious is quite likely behind it.
Paul Krugman already counterattacking:
http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/08/19/unethical-commentary-newsweek-edition/
Of course Krugman makes as much sense anymore as a three-dollar bill, but there it is.
Ferguson and Krugman had an argument before.
Unfortunately Ferguson seems to have gone a bit soft on Krugman:

Well, if Ferguson was a McCain advisor, it’s no small wonder McCain lost. What a clueless dolt!
Perhaps a bit of all of the above? Maybe Tina is playing the role of Eris here, she who tossed a golden apple inscribed “Kallisti” (“For the most beautiful”) amongst the goddesses, thus provoking those golden hos to quarrel about who WAS the most beautiful. The goddesses stripped off their garments to win Paris’ decision, (who appointed Paris, anyway? The “fix was in” apparently because Zeus wanted to get rid of Troy, and all this was his set-up to do so). Paris chose Aphrodite (goddess of love in the sense of carnal passion) because she offered him Helen.
Thus began the Trojan War.
Bam wanted to think of himself as a Greek god, and maybe they’ve decided to do him in?
Maybe the ‘Fix is In’ from on high from the Left’s version of Olympus?

This. Thisthisthisthisthis. For one thing, it adds dignity and interest to the dreary story of the MSM.
Really, there’s an ancient story to illuminate everything that has happened since. Human nature doesn’t change, and our knowledge of it hasn’t deepened; the epics of our ancestors cover it ALL. A couple of months ago I was here comparing Andrew Breitbart to Kleobis and Biton; and now this adds a dimension to the Newsweak story I’d never have thought of. As for Obeyme wanting to be a Greek god, well, who is he but Salmoneus, clanking about in his special-effects chariot, shouting at the crowd to worship him as Zeus? The real Zeus’ thunderbolt should be landing any day now; I’m betting on sometime early in November…
“Paris chose Aphrodite (goddess of love in the sense of carnal passion) because she offered him Helen.”
Is “Helen” the Greek word for a “Lewinsky”?
Two thoughts rushed to my head yesterday[no need to rush, plenty of seats remained]. One;he must have served in the Coast Guard or the navy and was well drilled on damage control and the art of keeping out water, and ,its early i guess that was about it. My joke at the Post Office was “how many pages in newsweek today?”. The other thought was perhaps maybe they decided to try balance. With so many sailors leaning over the starboard side perhaps they might not get anywhere.
Just finished it, the article is worth checking out. Tina Brown is interesting, perhaps she just like winners. (not whiners, so hit the road Barack)
One wonders about Barack: After receiving such a thorough intellectual thumping at the hands of Ferguson, has he learned anything at all after these four years? My guess is: no. Neither have most of my liberal friends, unfortunately. But Ferguson is often on PBS; maybe his word will make a difference.
I’m betting that although Newsweek may have fallen out of love with Obama, it has not fallen out of love with socialism, and its staff will continue to fall in love with silver-tongued fascists for as long as they live.
Saw the article yesterday and was shocked. Really shocked.
Roger is correct that it is probably the most devastating attack on obama ever, because it comes from an unexpected source, and because the attack doesn’t use in anyway the mountain of damning information about the Con Man’s life, ideology, and disgusting allies. The author of the article sticks exclusively to the total failure of the administration on policy, domestic and foreign, and management capabilities, about which there don’t seem to be any.
The article is a BRUTAL expose of 360 degree incompetance. The reader ends up thinking that the Con Man has the organizational abilities of an incompetant junior high school student.
Newsweek would have its readers believe current administration’s demise was of Obama’s own making. Nothing could be further from the truth! Obama’s first and possibly second term agenda(s): (quite possible, given the level of fradulent activities underway since 2010 elections)are as follows” RED ALERT!
In order to fully understand Obama’s second term in office a careful analysis of George Soro’s funded “Center for American Progress” (2003) must be made:
Ongoing area of activity: China, Civil Liberties, Economy, Education, Energy & Environment, Federal Budget, Gay & Transgender, Healthcare, Higher Education, Housing, Immigration, Labor & Work, Media, Military, National Security, Open Government, Poverty, Progressive Movement, Public Opinion, Race & Ethnicity, Regulation & Markets, Religion & Values, Tax Reform, Technology & Science, Terrorism, Women’s Rights.
Commentary: every one of these area of activity are George Soros funded and George Soros active issues in everything America today.
Every one of these areas George Soros has meddled in, are America’s current problems. Every single one. Conclusion? Mr. Soros’s aim is to overwhelm American freedoms, liberties and pursuit of happiness with problems in every one of these areas…only he will be able to solve them once American capitalism collapses. Mr. Obama is Mr. Soros facilitating handmaiden in the white House with their abetting Democratic Socialists of America(Congressional Progressive Caucus-CPC) in the US House of Representatives. This is FACT. Just go to their web site.
This Election seasons issues: 1) The US middle class economy, 2)ACA and rising Healthcare costs and how to contain this rise, 3)Strengthening Latino community: schooling, housing, jobs, 4)Big businesses take-over of all courts systems, 5) Collapse of housing markets (caused by Progressive policies), 6)The New Deal – Expanding entitlements, 7) Immigration Enforcement – impact on illegal aliens, 8) Challenges to US competitiveness, i.e., lack of education, US decline in world markets.
This is the full agenda Mr. Obama’s second term in office will address and implement. At first blush is an aggressive agenda for everything American. However, upon closer scrutiny, every one of these issues and active items are serious problems created by the New Left (read George Soros) and have disrupted everything American, since Mr. Obama’s first month in office. If this is O.K. with you…then vote four more for “O.” If you’re fully awakened from your slumber and want an America with courage, honor and Values-vote Romney/Ryan. Sorry, a bit long, but worth the read. Pray for America. Amen.
To be a “Sharpshooter” requires other than ‘Blank’ Rounds.
Fail.
“But Ferguson is often on PBS . . . ”
Methinks NOT ANYMORE.
