What’s the best way to deflect a political attack?
It is well established that Mitt Romney left Bain to go salvage the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. It is also well established that his name remained on some SEC documents. This stems from winding down his partnership interest in Bain Capital. It is a quirk in the law. It has been well vetted. Even FactCheck.org and the Washington Post are unpersuaded by Team Obama’s hyperbole.
Really? A felon? Hey! Let’s accuse Barack Obama of being a foreign born Muslim! There’s about the same validity to both. Meet the Bainers — they are the members of Team Obama demanding proof from Mitt Romney that he is a liar or a felon. Next they’ll ask when he stopped beating his wife.
The Bainers will not take any answer that does not show Romney to be a liar or felon in the same way Birthers will take no answer other than one that shows Barack Obama is not an American citizen. In fact, pointing this out on twitter today I was barraged from both sides that Obama has still never shown his real birth certificate and Mitt Romney has still not shown his tax returns.
Also, similar to Birthers, Bainers claim they are only asking questions. Of course, the questions in both cases demonstrate a considerable separation from reality. And in the case of the Bainers, Erickson points out, there is a considerable amount of ignorance of private enterprise as well.
No comparison. There are no unanswered questions about the Bain affair. There are many unanswered questions about Obama’s background. Apples and oranges.

Was it the 1% that created trillions and trillions of dollars of national debt to be passed on to our children, Barb? Will the 1% continue to destroy our savings thru inflation, Barb? The list of evils perpetrated by the 1% is endless. You’re on to something, Barb. Out of Obama’s Marxist frying pan right into the fiery hell of the Romney cronies in the 1%, Barb. He worked 16 hour days for three years on the Olympics. When Romney prepared to enter the race for Governor in Massachusetts in 2002, the state Dems tried to keep him off the ballot on the grounds that he hadn’t been a resident of Massachusetts for three years. Now the Dems claim he never left Bain. Whatever.

Actually, the polls are shifting on the Affordable Care Act. Change is always scary for some people. My guess is once they start getting the benefits they will like it. For example, in 1993/4 his lead client Selma Buycks-Roberson had a mortgage loan with Taylor, Bean & Whitaker Mortage Corp. out of Ocala, FL. The CEO was none other than Mr.Lee Farkas, convicted on 14 counts of fraud, 16 co-conspirators, was arrested on April 2011 on charges of: Bank fraud, wire fraud, securities fraud. He was sentenced to 30 years in jail.
When Mr. Lee was caught he had 1 million bundled files in mortage loans (some of them Obama’s) and investors lost a total of $3 billion dollars. The Auditors: Deloitte-Touche, are facing a $3 billion dollar lawsuit.
Mr. Lee forfeited $30.5 million dollars and has to make restitution to all mortgage holders.(any of these will be extremely lucky to see a red cent).
And Obama was dealing directly with this felon, Mr. Lee, as well as Mr. Lee’s CEO, Jason Moore. Colonial Bank in Ocala, FL was this troika’s piggy bank.

With his latest pronouncement about business owners that they didn’t really build their wealth alone we can be sure that this man hates capitalism. He is suggesting that people who worked to, say, build a road, and got the pay they agreed to are actually due more. You can see it is a microcosm of his philosophy and why liberals feel there is an no end to the money that can be, or should be doled out. At what point are the ones who “helped” build a business compensated? Are the road builders supposed to received something as long as business remains in business, since those roads will be used after they’ve done their work. It is greed plain and simple.
Jesus gives the parable of a man who hires people to work in his fields. Going out throughout the day hiring more and more, and agreeing with them all for the same price. When the day ends and the man is paying his workers all the same amount, even the ones who came in late, the ones who were worked longer grumbled against him and thought they should receive more. The man says why do you grumble? Am I not allowed to do what I want with my money, and didn’t you agree to work for what you got?
It is my wish that there is an interview with Obama that asks him just about this one parable. Not to invoke some religious controversy, but he does call himself a Christian, and often uses the piety and charity of the Christian religion to make a case for involuntary wealth redistribution.
I am concerned that you think the parable of the workers in the field was intended to describe something other than the Kingdom of God.
Did you think Jesus was imparting some lesson on economics? Governmental spending policy? I get that this parable might be confusing if you aren’t a Christian, but if you are a Christian then that is an egregious misunderstanding of Jesus’s words.
Have you ever read: “All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness; that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”
Now, that verse ends with “for instruction IN RIGHTEOUSNESS. Do you suppose that righteousness has nothing to do with how a man may conduct his business? And what would you judge is the meaning of “good works”? Only things that happen under the roof of a church?
And it is strange that you would suggest that a parable that Jesus spoke should be wholey disconnected from its implements to reality. As if, only the interpretation of the parable has any meaning, and Jesus could have made the parable about a warlord presiding over his minions. Nevertheless, it would still hold water, as far as the implications about fairness, and one’s own property IN RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Or you could even think of it like this. Is the man in the parable actually unjust, and the workers are right that they haven’t received more than they agreed for? And Jesus is making a point about Heaven which doesn’t have any real meaning on earth, and in fact, something that would be wrong on earth?
Have you ever heard the Lord’s prayer which says, Let thine will be done on earth, as it is in Heaven?
The parable, though a made up story, does indeed have implications for personal property, and fairness on earth. Perhaps, you are thinking that if the man in the parable had given according to the idea of fairness that the workers also had then he could very well be Just, just the same. This is true, however we can see that the principle that is common to any form of Justice the man uses is that it is HIS property, that agreed for a certain price, and he can do as he pleases.
And the reason that Jesus has his man in the parable carry out his business the way he does is because that is how God will deal with us. But, again, the principle of personal property and the idea concerning the relativity of “fairness” is the same.
So, when Obama says that it is “the right thing to do” concerning other people’s wealth and property, in giving it to others who have less he is actually wrong. It is only on his conscience to give away his wealth, and those who support him. The principle governing personal wealth and property, according to heaven, is that a person can do as he pleases with it without being unjust as long as he abides to the mutual agreements he has conerning it. And I want to point out one more thing about property. If you a person crashes their car into another person’s, they affect someone elses property. If they let their car slide into a pond, which someone else must fetch out, they affect someone elses wealth and property (tow truck/time). So, clearly there are boundaries (principles) to what is just for personal property.
If we see that Obama is trying to inflict his morals, his perturbances in his own conscience onto the nation then we can see how dangerous he is. Because this is a man who will destroy by peace… as the Bible says of the anti-christ. And if Obama were to claim he is guided by his conscience to do what is right, how much more will his supporters love him? It is just fine and dangerous rhetoric, and many are fooled by it.
I take offense that the equivalence is made with those find offense with Romney’s timeline culpability in the practices of Bain and that of those that understand the impact of United States Supreme Court precedence per our understanding of presidential eligibility.
Birthers have a leg to stand on regarding the 1875 decision whereas the radical left is grasping at straws through lies and shiny stuff to distract the voting public.

Minor v Happersett was determined not on the challenged 14th but on those political rights of Virginia Minor enjoyed as natural born citizen per Article II of our Constitution. The so called birthers would contend that our President is not eligible per an established USSC precedent of NBC that conflicts with his admitted life story of being born to a foreign national father.
The Romney campaign has completely mishandled this issue, letting the Left set the terms of the discussion. Instead of trying to run away from the successes of Bain after 1999, why isn’t Romney embracing and touting those successes? Romney was a businessman, not a community organizer. The objective of Bain -as with all businesses in free market – was to make a profit, not “save jobs”, “be fair” or some other leftist goal, and Bain was very good at it. Stop running away from your record, tout it!
Good article. Nice to see someone able to say outright that both the “Bainers” and “Birthers” are out of their tiny minds. Now, if the parties stopped pandering to lowest common denominator morons, we might be able to get some civility back in our government – and actually get some things done.

Have you ever read the Minor v Happersett decision or considered its’ implication? No, I imagine not. Only two presidents post the constitutional eligibility grandfather clause have held office…Arthur and Obama. Arthur was thought to be foreign born during his election and only found to be in the past two years the son of someone who naturalized 14 years after his birth. Our current president ran for his office openly the son of a foreigner regardless of our constitutional understanding of natural born citizen eligibility. Every other president born after the adoption was born in our county of two citizen parents. I must be a racist for pointing out this incredibly straightforward fact.

Pieter, my father was born outside of the United States. I was born within it. I am a natural born citizen of the United States. As is Barack Obama.
As to Minor vs. Happersett, in that decision the SCOTUS did not rule on natural born citizenship – they NOTED in passing that a child born of two citizens within the country was a natural born citizen, but they ALSO noted that many people did not see the nationality of the parents as being relevant – and to reiterate, they made no decision between the two concepts. They also noted that the Constitution itself makes no definition of the term.
Court cases and civil law since that time have made it quite clear – a person born in the United States of America, REGARDLESS of the nationhood of their parents, may claim citizenship as a natural born citizen. (There are a few other points, mainly regarding diplomats, but that’s the basics.) Obama was born in Hawaii, so he meets all the requirements.

This is pathetic. If you don’t respect the Constitution then you ought to keep that to yourself. You think that dual citizens are natural born citizens (even though you know the Founders would slap you silly for making such an assertion and our own law with regard to naturalizing Americans would indicate that only a total fool would think so) then fine, but it hasn’t been hashed out in court and you’d have to be the biggest moron in the world not to think that it should have been.
