Actually, Many Democrats Aren't Even With Obama on Taxes

Earlier today, President Obama declared that the American people are “with him” on his call to raise taxes on Americans who make more than $250,000. That statement may be as fact-challenged as his claim that he was outspent during the 2008 elections, when the reality is that he outspent his opponent by nearly half a billion dollars.

Sen. Bill Nelson, Florida Democrat, has already declared that he opposes the president’s tax plan.

“Sen. Nelson supports permanently extending the Bush-era tax cuts that are due to expire at the end of this year for everybody making less than $1 million a year,” spokesman Dan McLaughlin said.

Last month, former President Bill Clinton declared that he supported extending all of the Bush-era tax cuts, just not permanently.

Sens. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) and Mark Pryor (D-AR) have both feigned “undecided” on the tax cuts.

So that’s four prominent Democrats who are not with President Obama on the tax issue. Andrew Kaczynski of BuzzFeed finds several more: Sen. Jon Tester of MT, Sen. Joe Manchin of WV, Sen. Jim Webb of VA, Rep. Nancy Pelosi of CA, and Rep. Jim Mattheson of UT. Even Sen. Chuck Schumer of NY is not on board with Obama’s tax vision.
