Job creation, shmob creation! In harmony with Obama’s odd assertion that the “private sector is doing just fine,” the president’s new Acting U. S. Commerce Secretary Rebecca Blank has virtually no private sector experience (just like the president himself!). The sole exception in Ms. Blank’s long career is a brief stint at a data collection firm after she graduated from college in 1979. She is, however, the author of a book – Challenging Inequality – from the University of California Press, Berkeley.
Ms… excuse me… Dr. Blank’s vitae is here.
As readers will recall, her predecessor had a recent problem at the wheel of a Lexus.

Whotta name.
Whotta Administration.
CHOOM!
Obama fires economic blanks, and now he’s hired one.
Resident expert.
This is new? What was Gary Locke’s commercial experience? He was a professional politician who’s claim to fame was being “the first Chinese Governor”.
Group identity is the only qualification that matters anymore.
That’s ok… his Defense Secretary doesn’t have any Defense experience either…
Nor secretarial experience…
Waay too true. Why would we expect anything else?
and that’s what we call Acting!
… can’t seem to find youtube of Jon Lovitz doing his great thespian routine …
We should just call the departments “anti” whatever.
Anti-Commerce
Anti-Defense
Anti-Justice
Anti-Education
The Audacity of Dopes: Mr. Blank Screen promotes Dr. Blank Experience
Well, yes, but we already knew that. This administration has almost no private-sector experience, the lowest in history. Buncha academics and radicals.
Still, it is good for so many jokes. Of course, the SNL crowd would not understand the jokes, but we can have a good laugh.
No, a joke you can laugh at. This is a tragedy.
Seems like she spent a lot of time studying the poor.
Not a good sign for owners and employees at companies who would prefer NOT to be poor.
“Stick close to your desks and NEVER go to sea
“And you all may be the ruler of the Queen’s Navy!”

Remind me. What was the problem with former FEMA director Mike Brown?
She’ll fit in fine with this, er, Administration. The Defense Secretary has no Defense experience, the AG has no experience and even less interest in Justice, and the Treasury Secretary can’t fill out a 1040.
How is this different than a chief executive with no executive experience?
I’d say this is a joke along the lines of “The Aristocrats!”.
The Democrat party has given me three Presidents in my time.
Jimmy Carter- Serial Fool
Bill Clinton- Serial Liar
Barack Obama- Serial Incompetent
One thing for sure, Becky knows how to write a whole bunch of stuff.
Oh, and she sure can rake in the grants.
But maybe she’s not a total nincompoop when it comes to actual business experience in the real world.
Did she have a paper route when she was kid?
Well, at least she’s not a lawyer.
Data Resources, Inc., was a company that built econometric forecasting models of the US and other major economies. Its primary business was economic forecasting, not data collection. Much of its workforce consisted of economists who did not yet have academic appointments.
She does have some experience – she’s been Acting Sec. before Bryson as well (she’s been the Dep. Sec. since 2009). The Deputy Secretary’s job is different – it’s mostly internal facing day-to-day management of the Department. Usually, the Deputy will fill in as the Acting Secretary until a new one is appointed (like last time).
From experience, I can say it doesn’t matter a whole lot – the Dept. of Commerce is made up of semi-autonomous sub-agencies that do the work. No major policy decisions will be made since no Acting Sec. feels they have the authority to do much besides keep the machine running until a new Secretary is confirmed, which won’t be this year probably. So in effect, don’t expect any attention to be paid to Commerce for a while (like normal really).
“From experience, I can say it doesn’t matter a whole lot – the Dept. of Commerce is made up of semi-autonomous sub-agencies that do the work.”
Which is…..?
Is she the one that sang that Friday song?
Likely this winning candidate has excellent skills in pushing paper. Commerce? What is that?
Why all the obnoxious chatter?
