Are You Prepared for a Solar Storm Disaster?

I am reading a new novel/how to guide by Lloyd Tackett called A Distant Eden that is available on Kindle for 99 cents. My husband, Glenn, got the paperback in the mail and the description of the book was too good to pass up:

December 2012, a massive solar storm knocks out the power grid. Three hundred million Americans are suddenly faced with a survival situation. They have no water, electricity or fuel. Food rapidly disappears from the store shelves, not to be replaced. Only three perecent will survive. Those three perecent will have much in common. What does it take to be one of them?

The author lets you know up front that this is a cross between fiction and a survival instruction manual. It is the story of how people in the act of surviving and discusses how mindset is 85% of survival. The author was a project manager of water system plants and in the book, there is a focus on disinfecting water with the sun’s ultra-violet rays and how important water is in survival. It will really make you think about what to do if you have no one to rely on but yourself and a few others.

The book reminded me a lot of William Forstchen’s One Second After but instead of solar disaster, Forstchen’s book uses a high-altitude nuclear bomb, but the plot is similar. How do you survive against starvation, disease and roving gangs of barbarians?

Both of these books are terrific if you have an interest in survivalism or even if you don’t because it will give you the needed push to think about these things.
