The Democrats are sacrificing pawns to go after the Republicans’ queen. That’s usually an indication of a shallow and ill thought out rookie strategy.
TERRY O’NEILL: What would we be saying if Hillary Clinton had said this: that Ann Romney has never, has not worked for pay outside the home a day in her life? That’s my understanding that’s an accurate statement, and that raises the exact issue that Hilary Rosen was trying to get to, which is do Mr. & Mrs. Romney have the kind of life experience and if not, the imagination, to really understand what most American families are going through right now? I think that that was what Hilary was getting out, and so she left out the words “for pay outside the home.”
Hillary Clinton did denigrate motherhood back 1992, when she cracked about staying home baking cookies. Nice work, bringing that back up. It just proves what Republicans have been saying: That Democrats belittle stay at home moms. Barack Obama’s remark that he and Michelle didn’t have the “luxury” of Michelle staying home and raise their daughters, when the couple made about half a million dollars a year, reinforces that.
Motherhood isn’t a luxury, champ. Making a half million dollars a year while pursuing glamor power careers very much is a luxury. Obama’s remark says that the Obamas didn’t make motherhood a priority in their family. Money and politics came first for them. That’s not my opinion, it’s a fact based on what Obama said.
As for Terry O’Neill, she is the president of the National Organization of Women. That misnamed organization rakes in millions of dollars while representing only the most liberal subsection of women. O’Neill made the comments on MSNBC, a fringe channel hardly anyone even uses as background noise, let alone watches. O’Neill’s political resume is thick.
A former law professor, O’Neill taught at Tulane in New Orleans and at the University of California at Davis, where her courses included feminist legal theory and international women’s rights law, in addition to corporate law and legal ethics. She has testified before committees in the Maryland House of Delegates and has written federal amicus briefs on abortion rights for Louisiana NOW, Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union.
O’Neill is a professional activist. Her credentials for advocating on behalf of mothers are…? She seems intent, if anything, on preventing motherhood.
The Democrats’ concerted attack on Ann Romney is not accidental. It’s also not smart, but it’s not accidental. They actually think that going after the wife of the candidate is a good idea. It isn’t. Ann Romney is the most sympathetic figure of the final group of candidates and their families. The Democrats are giving a two-day story legs that may run on for months. I suppose it’s better than talking about the economy, but not by much.

– it figures. Anyway, don’t stop her or any others Team O send out. Don’t get in the way of this Pickett’s Charge. Fredericksburg!
The fact that the internationalist subversives (mistakenly called “liberals”) keep attacking in this way clearly shows that they are scared to death: they must know that the true polls (“likely voters”) give them defeated by a landslide.
What would we be saying if Hillary Clinton had said this: that Ann Romney has never, has not worked for pay outside the home a day in her life?
That answer would be, “you’re a politician, Hillary – neither have you.”
Also, Terry O’Neill’s comment assumes Hilary Rosen was being sincere about Ann Romney not relating to the average woman, but in reality Rosen’s point that Ann Romney is out of touch is not a sincerely held belief, but rather a campaign PR tactic. You can imagine the meeting where she and her people decided on the strategy: “Let’s try going after Ann Romney. Let’s make it seem like she’s not in touch with real people. ” Not an honestly held conviction; just crass campaigning.
One would think they’d want to avoid doing anything that might draw attention to M. Obama’s work history.
You know who they really hate? Stay at home moms who homeschool their kids.
This is a godsend for Romney because I do suspect that Ann is a bit out of touch. That said, I know one case where NOW would rally behind the stat at home mom. If she were a Democrat running against a Republican career woman NOW would find her to be the paragon of feminine virtue.
The left is just shoring up their base. I can’t imagine that independents would tolerate such an attack against their own mothers.
And of course, it beats the heck out of talking about unemployment, the economy, the debt, the price of gas, etc.
And a good ploy would be for the Ms. Romney to declare what she knows about budgets and how inflation is hitting the price of gas for the minivans and the grocery bills!
For most middle class women, the ‘career’ boils down to a clerical job, 9 to 5, weekends off, and pension at 65. Given marriage and a family, it would be interesting to look at the financial advantage of a stay at home mom track: working in an office means you have to pay for more expensive clothing; you probably go out to lunch at a restaurant a lot (even if you brown bag sometimes). There is no time to have a garden for fresh vegetables; there are more processed foods at the family dinner table, because preparation takes TIME, as do hunts for deals for food and clothing and other home necessities.
The idea that motherhood is a luxury is the thing that irks the most. It is a SACRIFICE. It requires the removal of luxuries from your life! It is nonsense that staying home is luxurious. Ask me. I’ve been doing it for six years and in that time have had to give up my car, live with my parents, find ways to make some extra money at home, we have bounced checks,
been declined with a full basket of groceries, cut down on driving because there just wasn’t money for gas. We have gone years without vacations, we grow our own food…let me assure Rosen its dam
ned hard work and there’s nothing luxurious about it. However, my children never have to languish in a sterile facility all day where no one cares why they’re sad or knows when they need extra love. My children have me 100% and I wouldn’t give them up for a million dollars a year.
And let’s not forget how John Edwards treated his wife. Democrats, in reality, hate women. Because of the cases that John Edwards won against OB/GYNs in North Carolina, women in N.C. are pushed into having c-sections rather than normal birth. Also, why no reasonable ob/gyn carries malpractice anymore. Go bare, hide your assets very well. Lawyers aren’t interested in a doctor with no easy bank account/insurance policy to raid.
