Campaigning in Iowa, Ron Paul slammed using drone strikes to kill terrorists including Anwar al-Awliki, and then made this curious statement.
“Nobody will ever dare attack us,” Paul said. “They’re not about to invade this country any time soon.”
Really? Nobody will ever dare to attack us? Is that your final answer?
Then what happened in September 11, 2001?
Or on February 26, 1993?
Or on November 5, 2009 at Ft. Hood? Or the other lethal attacks on US military recruiting centers? What about the dozens of attacks that have been thwarted over the years?
Haven’t we already been attacked, several times?
Or is Ron Paul suggesting that something else happened?
It’s either that, or his misunderstanding of the terrorist threat is fundamental and not fixable.
Update: On the 1993 WTC bombing, we have an answer…
Whether [the 1993 World Trade Center bombing] was a setup by the Israeli Mossad, as a Jewish friend of mine suspects, or was truly a retaliation by the Islamic fundamentalists, matters little.
1 – That’s simultaneously clever and insane. 2 – It would matter a whole lot if the Mossad staged a terrorist attack on US soil.

I am so damned tired of the Wizened Apple Sculpture that Walks Like a Man.
I honestly thought his 15 minutes expired back in 2008. Even he ought to have withered and crumbled away, by now.
The man’s an idiot. If he means we’ll never be invaded by tanks and an army, no, it’s probably not going to happen. But our enemies have already proved they don’t need tanks and an army.
Ron Paul leading in Iowa 1, PJM 0.
So, did Bush do 9/11? If not, how do you justify supporting Ron Paul?
watch this, after you do……what kind of moron do you feel like now..youtube NYPD POLICE TRANSMISSION MURAL VAN MOSSAD. these politicians are all traitors damn near…..this video proves mossad did 911….it also proves the media is lying and it proves Chertoff should be arrested and hung for treason….watch the film then tell what you think…..he’s an israeli citizen…..our director of homeland security is a foreign agent…..israel did the u.s. liberty…they’ve seized this country…if you can’t see this, listen to DOCTOR ALAN SABROSKY, dir. of THE U.S. ARMY WAR COLLEGE. he says Israel did 911 and military brass knows it…and if the american public ever find out….they will be finish..listen to his interview on PRESS TV.. when we started blaming, iran….I thought…they are totally insane…and the media is being used as a foreign tool of usurpation.
Thanks for proving yourself a liar, Mr. X.
I guess you’re not so sick of commenting here after all, are you?
See, unlike you, I remember what has been said in the past.
Ron Paul is denying that we were attacked on 9/11? He’s okay with Iran getting nuclear weapons and says they are no threat to us, but 9/11 was carried out by Muslim terrorists using our freedoms against us, with not bombs, but with BOX CUTTERS!!!
wake up dumb dumb….if he did say that, the media would destroy him and you know it….he is so damn much smarter than the conspirators he beats them over the head with their own club……hahahahhaha! remember they said paul was nuts because he said Israel did help to create Hamas….GOOGLE IT….google it!!! right now go google it…It is fact!!!!!!!! THIS MAN ISN’T A LIAR.
Josh, if you’re against Big Government, how do you justify continuing to spend $1 trillion a year on ‘defense’? Oh wait that’s right it’s only imposing Big Government on foreigners, so it’s ok. As Ben Stein’s Dad said, something that can’t go on forever…won’t. And that would include having military bases in 120 countries. Could we at least settle for less interventionism as opposed to total non-interventionism? How about just ten countries? Would the Iranians immediately start nuking us and the Israelis if we did that? Who else exactly would pose the grave threat to our freedoms in that case?
Have the balls to show up in Iowa, look Paul’s supporters at the caucases in the eye. And then develop a conscience and feel ashamed of yourselves.
Even if you disagree with Paul you’ve relentlessly slandered and libeled him for the crime of starting to gain support, whereas before you all have admitted (or at least Preston has) to being content to pat him on the head and ignore him. Now he’s the greatest threat to the Republic? You are as two faced as that raving loon Michael Savage who was praising Paul as recently as August.
If The Ron is such a constitutionalist, why is he willing to ignore Article 1, Section 8, where Congress is tasked with providing for the common defense of the nation?
For that matter, why are you willing to ignore it?
YOU CALL GOING TO WAR ON LIES, AND ATTACKING AFFY WHEN THEY DIDN’T DO IT….WAKE UP STUPID…..dig this youtube vid, brains…youtube—-NYPD POLICE TRANSMISSION MURAL VAN MOSSAD…..it appears you either need to apologies for your ignorance, or you are an enemy of the united states…..i’d give my life for americas people…..and i will defend the people of america with my life….i swear it. This is the land where freedom rang….It’s where i played little league ball, and kissed pretty girls on hay rides under the autumn orange moon. trick or treat with my friends….and coached little league and now I’m old and I’ve watched the media and our politicians and military brass sell this country out for money and power..not power….but a free ride…GOOGLE…WHAT COMPANY COUNTED THE IOWA CAUCUS 2012 VOTES AND WHAT COUNTRY IS IT IN….YOU WILL KNOW THIS MAN IS UNEDUCATED OR A SHILL THAT I’M REPLYING TOO…..I ALSO SAW ON TV………ODIGO 911……AN ISRAELI COMPANY DID CALL ALL ISRAELIS WHO WORK IN THE TOWER TO TAKE THE DAY OFF ON 911…..I SWEAR IT…..GOOGLE IT….YOUTUBE…I SAW IT MYSELF JUST LAST NIGHT…..I TRUSTED THESE PEOPLE….AND WHEN THEY SAY, THE MEDIA IS SO AGAINST ISRAEL..THAT SHOWS YOU JUST HOW MUCH THEY THINK OF YOU. NETANYAHU QUOTE…GOOGLE IT…”WE WILL USE UP AMERICA UNTIL IT DRIES UP AND BLOWS AWAY.” THIS WILL NOT FLY… tO DO WHAT THEY DID ON 911 THEN BLAME THE MUSLIMS….THIS IS THE MOST EVIL THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED…
The question is: what are those troops there for? If you look carefully, some of them are liaisons with the local military; some are support bases for U.S. forces, especially those in Afghanistan; some are fulfilling treaty requirements, particularly those in Europe; and some are actually fighting enemies. As far as I know, we’re not actually “intervening” right at the moment. I would be interested in hearing your definition of “intervention.”
He’s running for Truther-in-Chief http://bit.ly/svoU4o
So … that would make him the TIC?
CW, you’re clearly a sock puppet for someone else, whether you’re Preston or Fawstin or someone who wondered over from the pro-Establishment U of Houston prof’s (rytb, cough cough) hatred-spewing blog saying all Ron Paul supporters are like the genocidal Khmer Rouge, I could care less.
There is clearly something about this little mild mannered 76-year-old doctor that has exposed the sputtering hatred and insanity lurking beneath the surface of the Establishment’s pundits. If he really has no chance and should just be a joke, than why do you people feel it necessary to demonize him? What changed in the past four years that has made him such a mortal threat to the GOP and the Republic? Could it be that you fear millions of Americans are ready to hear what he has to say after all these bailouts and several more wars despite Obama’s promises?
Two things are obvious: Senor Equis has gotten under your skin merely by the act of posting intelligent, fact based rebuttals this past week linking to Raimondo and Bandow’s documenting the bottomless hypocrisy of the Big Government pro-endless war RINOs.
And two, PJM is clearly in bad financial straits, and has basically sold its entire page/coverage to the Newt campaign for the past week (if you want irony, go look at Spengler’s anti-Paul screed, which – surprise! – has a Ron Paul Google ad right next to it!).
I doubt Perry’s people would toss good money after bad here, but considering their other spectacular failures, I wouldn’t put it past em’.
What confuses me about the Paul followers is their ability to overlook their candidates obvious flaws, in favor of is supposed strengths. He has one of those annoying debate techniques that, when Bill Maher uses it, is hyper-annoying…somehow, with Paul, you guys just ignore it. He’s constantly using the “Everybody knows I’m right…” debate structure, essentially trying to start the argument as if he’s already won it. I doesn’t work for Maher, and there’s no reason it should work for Paul either. Paul comes off as if he doesn’t know how the world economy works, and if he doesn’t care either. He also sounds by turns naive and incredibly stupid about international politics, and frankly it’s dismaying to hear so many people think he sounds intelligent.
The most fun is the newsletters. They’re so racist and off-the-reservation that Paul can’t do anything now except disavow them, but he’s admitted to writing some of them, and he’s acknowledged that they all came out under his name 20 years ago. Somehow he’s managed to convince people that he could have someone else write a newsletter in his name, and he somehow would remain ignorant of what was in them content-wise, even though it was incredibly inflammatory and objectionable, until he needed to repudiate them for political reasons. What all of that means is that he’s either incredibly stupid, he’s incredibly naive, or he thinks we’re some combination of the two. Frankly I don’t care which it is; any of the above disqualifies him to be President, right out of the box. Anyone who thinks differently has had too much Koolaid.
Gee, I guess you don’t trust the good folks at PJM when they tell you I’m not a sock puppet.
Tell me something, if I was/am a sock puppet, would I do this to Mr. Preston (a/k/a “myself”) regarding a site redesign that Mr. Preston championed? (For the record, I returned because two friends who are contributors here told me when Bryan re-did the format allowing for the traditional “blog” format again.)
You’re clearly an idiot. Which explains your slavish devotion to The Ron, because you’re not smart enough to understand exactly why his stances make no sense.
If he really has no chance and should just be a joke, than why do you people feel it necessary to demonize him?
So we’re only supposed to criticize people that we think have a serious chance? How they present themselves, how they do in the pols, how their supporters present them is irrelevant? Nobody that I have read is “demonizing” him. However many people have presented many good arguments against his stated positions. If you seriously support him than I suggest that you collate some of these arguments and seriously debate them. You might also consider actually reading some of the responses and, perhaps, assuming that the writers may actually know what they’re talking about.
“If he really has no chance and should just be a joke, than why do you people feel it necessary to demonize him?”
It’s called vetting. If your boi can’t take the heat, he should get out of the kitchen.
I dunno, there’s something very funny about a guy who used to extol Ron Paul and all the other candidates on the Texas Republican Party ticket for years, ala Mr. Preston, suddenly deciding Paul is the Antichrist. I call it like I see it. Apparently no amount of warmongering disqualifies any of the other candidates, nor shameful silence about the Fed destroying the dollar, save for Rick Perry’s throwaway ‘hang Bernanke’ comment which is more extreme than anything Paul’s called for.
And Mr. Nicholas, as with all the other anti-Paul posts is long on generalizations and insults and short on specifics. ‘Doesn’t understand how the global economy works?’ You mean that it runs on paper money printed out of nothing? Was that what you meant to say?
Speaking of insults, I notice you dropped the sock puppet accusation. I’ll consider accepting an honestly offered apology now.
I also notice you seem to have forgotten how to use the “reply” link… if memory serves you used to know how. Must be a deterioration of the brain.
Ron Paul: Please get in touch with CAP, you’ll feel right at home there.
HOW COME AMERICANS CAN WATCH ALL THE EVENTS OF 911 AND YOU CAN’T EVEN SEE WHAT HAS HAPPENED….YOU POOR DUMB DUMBS…..you are so beat down and dumb that you can’t even tell when a building is being blown to kingdom come….hahhahahha If i die for telling the truth and not being a sucker…..you are such a sick society….it’s amazing…..the dumbest generation. hahahaah watch this, for example…..youtube NYPD POLICE TRANSMISSION MURAL VAN MOSSAD.
Doesn’t the caliber/quality of the comments here reflect the caliber/quality of the Republican candidates? …so far?
Don’t we have now a national population of about 340 million? And of the adult portion of that population…these guys are the fittest?…the best the Republicans can find?….these guys are the only one’s who’ve floated to the surface of our political selection caucus/primary/process? The best we’ve found (nationally!) to defeat this clown of a President we have now?
Perhaps these motley Republican candidates should form a caucus/coalition and choose a figurehead among themselves on the basis of the best way to defeat Obama, omitting if possible that awful thing called “charisma”?
Certainly this campaign speaks volumes about what it takes to run for President of the United States.
We need a better vetting process……better way to campaign…look at the sitting Prsident of the United States….shouldn’t that’ve told us that we have a major problem in our choices, and the values we think are important in a Commander In Chief? Good Grief! Obama’s a disgrace to our voters’ judgement.
Why can’t the professional candidate-vettors do better? We’ve got too much inertia…to much…”let somebody else work this out.”
…Captain Google tells me our population is 311 millions, (…I should’ve checked earlier…) but that doesn’t change my thesis.
Four governors: Huntsman and Johnson re-elected; Perry re-elected twice; Romney only one term, but also a very successful businessman.
A two-term Senator, the former Speaker of the House, two veteran Representatives, and another successful businessman.
You’d think that with that all that experience and achievement, we’d have some genuine Presidential possibilities…
My preference, given that field, would be a Gingerich/Perry or a Perry /Gingerich ticket.
But doesn’t that show the quality (or lack) of “leader of our Nation” qualifications? …”Commander In Chief” qualifications? I say it indicates the lack. Gingerich’s House Speaker experience is excellent, but he seems mercurial to me. Perfect for House Committee machinations, but not for International warfare in our Atomic Age.
I think it speaks volumes that the solemn, stoic “judgement” and “integrity” factors which are so apparent in Sen Joe Lieberman are so absent in our fielded candidates. Alas, “stoicism” and “integrity” lack “charisma” and have narrow constituencies. They’re not “exciting”. Joe Lieberman isn’t running. Hence, we’ve elected this disgustingly faux Obama character.
Isn’t this why we rail against our “Congress”, our “Politicians”?
I know, I know, Harry Truman was a haberdasher from Missouri. But, oh, how he grew into Events in a desparate time of need, and so suddenly. Rara avis, he.
Am sticking by my thought that a nation of 311 millions ought to field better candidates.
Why does Ron Paul keep opening his mouth?
He’s afraid to leave anybody in doubt.
