In 2000, talented actress Joan Allen starred in an award-winning film called The Contender, for which she received a Best Actress Oscar nomination as well as a slew of other awards.
The plot — pay attention now — focuses on a Democratic female vice-presidential nominee, who must undergo Congressional hearings to vet her appointment after the previous VP passed away. A phalanx of eeeeeevillllll Republicans, spearheaded by ultra-villian Gary Oldman, tries to crush her nomination and destroy her career by dredging up a decades-old sexual escapade in which the Joan Allen character may or may not have appeared in photos of an orgy in her early 20s.
Allen’s character heroically refuses to even address the accusations, even when by doing so she seems to confirm them. In a twist ending, the audience eventually learns that she in fact hadn’t even been at the orgy, and it was someone else in the photos, but she still nobly sacrificed her career so as to not dignify the accusation with a response.
The film was supposed to be a parable about the underhanded diabolical tactics of the Republican Party, which uses moral smears and the politics of personal destruction to cling to power at all costs.
And then we get the news today that basically this exact same thing is happening in reality right now — a female former VP candidate and potential presidential candidate is having her reputation dragged through the mud by opposition political operatives determined to destroy her career by slandering her with unprovable and baseless sexual accusations that serve no purpose but to sully her name.
EXCEPT…the political parties are reversed. In reality, it is the Democratic smear machine that is viciously and enthusiastically slandering a Republican female VP candidate with a rumor about a sexual escapade when she was in her early 20s:
Sarah Palin had sex with a black dude
In an story sure to doom Palin’s future political aspirations, the National Enquirer reports that a new book by Joe McGinniss alleges that, in her twenties, Sarah Palin had hush-hush sex with then-University of Michigan star basketball player Glen Rice. Sort of redefines her stance on “Drill, Baby Drill”, doesn’t it?
At the time, Palin was working as a sports reporter for the Anchorage, Alaska TV station KTUU. Rice, who went on to a stellar NBA career, was playing in a tournament in Alaska at the time of the alleged encounter.
According to the Enquirer, “In the book, McGinniss quotes Rice as confirming the one-night stand.”
The National Enquirer goes one step further, asserting that a publishing source said the book contains allegations that, at the time, Palin had a “fetish” for African-American men. She was also allegedly still involved with future husband Todd, who she married a mere nine months after the alleged incident.
(No, that’s not a sleazy blog I’m quoting — it’s a mainstream newspaper [the San Francisco Chronicle]).
Funny how reality is almost always in complete contradiction to the liberal fantasy world they’ve constructed around themselves.
Furthermore, neutral observers may wonder what the scandal is supposed to be: Even if the story were true, at the time of the one-night stand, Palin was an adult, Rice was an adult, both were single, so what’s the problem?
Liberals themselves think that being sexually active in your 20s is normal, and that interracial relationships are admirable. So why are they harping on this? Not because they themselves think it’s scandalous, but because they presume that uptight racist Republican voters will think it’s scandalous. Or at least the liberal fantasy version of “uptight racist Republican voters.” So the liberals must falsely act shocked themselves, in order to promulgate the scandal to the intended audience.
Furthermore, are we to assume that a handsome suave college student named Barry Obama remained a chaste virgin until his wedding night, at the age of 31? Of course not. But no one — no one — has ever spent two minutes trying to dig up the sexual history of Barack Obama, because it is totally irrelevant, and absolutely zero voters would care how many girlfriends or one-night stands he had while single. Ah, but Sarah Palin is fair game, you see, because she, uh, well, uh, she thinks sex education for 12-year-olds should focus more on abstinence and less on condom instructions!
Liberals think this makes her a hypocrite, but as I previously pointed out, the “hypocrisy defense” is a logical fallacy and inevitably backfires spectacularly.
Instead, it is the liberals who end up looking like hypocrites.

If a new star appeared in the sky each time the liberals do the exact thing they accuse their opponents of doing, I could read Joe McGinniss’ new book outdoors on a moonless night.
Yup. And as I pointed out below, this is the exact contradiction of the equally breathless Palin Rumor #94, that Palin is an evil raaaaacist because she “doesn’t do black guys”.
I thought “Tyler Durden” had it best: “So, 30 years ago, a single girl had sex with a single guy. What a story this guy uncovered!”
Is this National Enquirer story as reliable as the Enquirer story that “proved” that Todd Palin was having an affair–and then said story vanished without a trace?
You know that if there had been the slightest whiff that it was true, we’d still be hearing about it on every ‘news’ channel the Democrats control.

This story sounds a lot like thestory by Leftist wing-nut Andrew Sullivan, about Trig’s not being Sarah Palin’s son, but her daughter’s son. What is it about Republic women that drive Leftists into fits of insanity?

Well, my bona fides as no fan of Sarah Palin are pretty well established on practically every blog in the Country, even got banned from RedState partially because of alleged Palin Derangement Syndrome. Unlike most, I actually know her, worked with her, so my reasons for not liking her have some basis in reality.
So, I call BS on this one. Anybody want to speculate what any number of media outlets would have paid some guy for any reasonably credible account of jumping Sarah Palin’s bones – and a Black guy, the sky’s the limit. And anyway, who cares if she got her ashes hauled. It ain’t like Alaska was full of saints back then, still isn’t. In the seventies and eighties Alaska ran on cocaine and sport screwing was pretty much everybody’s favorite sport. ‘Course, that was before it became a blood sport.
Here in Alaska, I know all sorts of people who hate her guts, we have a regular corrupt old boys club that gets together and hates her effing guts, but, you know, this is one that nobody I know has ever accused her of. She doesn’t have a lot of sense about a lot of things, but she sure had a good sense of what that thing was worth, and she hasn’t spread it around or the whole State would know about it.
McGinnis is a tired old has-been who thinks he has some monopoly on Alaska since he wrote a book here in the ’70s. He found somebody who’d play this game to help him sell books. Nobody on the left is going to believe any Palin denial. Nobody on the Right is going to believe any McGinnis accusation. Moot point.

I’m glad this book full of nonsense is hitting right at the moment that the news is all about the Republican double victory, Obama frantically trying to get someone to support his latest spending ideas, and the start of football season. Looking at some of the liberal reaction to conservatives’ reaction to McGinniss’ claim is pretty funny, in that they were expecting a huge racial freak-out from Palin’s supporters and others on the right, and 15 hours after the story was released, they haven’t gotten it, to the point they’re almost lecturing the right on how they are supposed to be behaving (which makes it into some Bizzaro World version of the Camptown Ladies scene from “Blazing Saddles”.

Has anyone even verified if she ever interviewed Rice? Not that I care either way, but the whole story is premised upon that one easily proven/disproven assertion and not subject to the low standards of he said/ she said can’t be proven assertions.

The claim is just an attempted smear that can neither be proven nor disproven.
Remember that Monica Lewinsky was able to actually describe Clinton’s penis, and the kids that Michael Jackson molested were also able to described MJ’s penis. That was the only real way for the investigators to prove that sexual contact had taken place. Now, if Sarah Palin has some distinguishing feature “down there,” and this guy was able to describe it accurately, and if (in this completely absurd hypothetical universe) Sarah Palin confirmed that his description was accurate — OK, then we might have some kind of evidence supporting the claim. But lacking that (which we always will lack), the claim is totally unprovable.
Liberals thought this would be the ultimate “head explode moment” for Palin supporters, but to the liberals’ complete mystification, practically nobody believes the accusation, and the few that do believe it’s true, simply don’t care. All of this is based on a fundamental misapprehension of what modern conservatives are like. Which pleases me greatly. If the key to victory is “know thy enemy,” then the liberals are on the highway to failure, because they don’t know squat about their opponents. Every single thing which they think they know is wrong.
