Did the WH Reject a Debt Deal that Reid and the Republicans Had Agreed To?

PJM alum Jennifer Rubin says yes:

A Republican aide e-mails me: “The Speaker, Sen. Reid and Sen. McConnell all agreed on the general framework of a two-part plan. A short-term increase (with cuts greater than the increase), combined with a committee to find long-term savings before the rest of the increase would be considered. Sen. Reid took the bipartisan plan to the White House and the President said no.”

Rubin says that if this is true, the WH is playing with fire and putting partisanship ahead of the nation’s finances.

He’s been doing that since the first day of his administration. His two signature “accomplishments” are the stimulus and ObamaCare, which together answer the much of the question of how we got here.

But hey, at least The Won is taking the debt talks seriously enough to cancel a couple of fundraisers. Even if Reid & Boehner have reportedly booted him from the actual meetings.

I don’t think, however, that if Obama really rejected a bipartisan deal that he’s taken ownership of the crisis. Read every other story out there on the talks, and Reid is still covering for him by pinning all of the blame on Boehner, as are other Democrats. As long as that’s the case, Obama has cover to keep on lighting matches.
