Fastest. Scandal. Ever.
Earlier today, Fox News reported that “N.Y. Rep Declines Comment on Claim He Sent Shirtless Photo to Woman on Craigslist:”
Rep. Christopher Lee is declining to comment on a report claiming the married Republican congressman sent a shirtless photo of himself to a woman on Craigslist.
Lee, asked by Fox News about the report Wednesday afternoon as he was walking to his car, said he was not willing to talk about the issue, adding “I have to work this out with my wife.”
And evidently, he’ll have plenty of time to do so: “Rep. Chris Lee resigns ‘effective immediately.’ maybe fastest scandal ever,” Rick Klein of ABC tweeted a few minutes ago.
Ed Morrissey adds, “FYI, NY-26 is an R+6 district in [western] New York. Lee’s resignation gives Dems a shot at a pickup, probably not a good one, tho.”
Related: “Congressional ethics: texting shirtless pictures=reason to resign in disgrace. Spending $1.5 trillion you don’t have = Wednesday.”
Update: At Hot Air, Allahpundit asks, “Why did Lee resign when more prominent Republicans, like Vitter, have survived infidelity scandals? Did he simply feel duty-bound? Or was it the fact that that photo of him with his shirt off is so goofy that it would follow him around forever if he hung on?”
On the bright side, Drew M. at Ace of Spades quips, Lee “didn’t go full Favre, nor did he emulate Eric ‘The Tickler’ Massa. At least we got that going for us.”

BWAHAHAHA
“New York Republican.”
“Jumbo Shrimp.”
“Conservative Democrat.”
Usually such a fast response means there is a lot more where this one came from. Can’t wait to see what comes out of the woodwork with this one.
Perhaps. Although I suspect it’s simply that this story has revealed him to be something even worse (for a politician, at least) than an adulterer–a laughingstock.
Compare that to Democrats who never resign when caught in much bigger scandals. At least Republicans have some common sense (after the fact). Democrats just wan’t to party on.
So? Now, if he looked like oh-so-white, boney -Don’t kick sand in my face — Elliott Spitzer without his shirt on… He would HAVE to resign. Or -OMG – can you imagine Barny Frank without his shirt?! UUUGHH. All in all, he appears to be in nice shape, tan, not a bald chest, not a furry back, no pot belly. Eh? He’s not a spring chicken and not bad. Certainly not like seeing Ted Kennedy in the boat with his daughter, I mean, younger wife. Now THAT was scandalous. Oooh. The image… Why do we care? Why resign?
At least he didn’t blame it on hiking the Appalachia trail. Boehner did say there would be zero tolerance for this type of thing, glad to see he’s got control over the swamp.
Of course, this is giving tingles up the legs of the left whose pulling out the Republicans are Hypocrites card and family values card. That pols on their side put cheating on spouse on their resume to enhance it never penetrates their sick skulls.
Well, until one of ours has their boyfriend running a male prostitute ring out of their home, this Lee guy may be an idiot but he did’t win top honors.
A fast response like this also usually means the perp is Republican.
Good riddance. It is not like we want someone this reckless and stupid making the big decisions.
Too bad for him that he wasn’t a dem. They would have managed to turn him into a hero that needed to be saved from the puritanical republicans… or some such.

That’s because Dempcrat constituencies keep reelecting them anyway. Barner franks, Teddy Kennedy, etc. and so on and so forth.
Good riddance. If his wife cant trust him, neither can we.
Well, isn’t he the victim? Just run out all the usual excuses when the wife cheats. Maybe she was neglecting his emotional needs. Maybe he was just one more guy finding out how awful it is to be married when you are 45 and aren’t tired of life yet.
I agree he has to go. You can’t have a person with such poor judgment in public office. At least not a Republican.
This just shows we are a repressive nation of prudish busy bodies out to run other peoples’ private lives!
What? He was a Republican? Oh.
This just proves that all family values Republicans are hypocrites and should be driven from office at the merest whiff of impropriety!
What? We don’t have to drive him from office because he resigned out of a sense of shame? What’s shame?
