How’s this for the headline of the year:  NY car bomb suspect cooperates, but motive mystery

The Onion? Nope.  The Associated Press.  Buried deep in the article we find: “A court hearing was canceled Tuesday in part because of Shahzad’s continuing cooperation with investigators, but authorities said they had shed little light on what might have motivated him.”

This is reported by the AP, even though three paragraphs down we find: “Once there [Pakistan], according to investigators, he traveled to the lawless Waziristan region and learned bomb making at a terrorist training camp.”

What were they teaching there?  Zen Buddhism?

There is little doubt that “political correctness” has become a disease that should be listed in the DSM IV.

He’s probably filling the government’s ear full of whatever disinformation he was told to provide when captured.

If the law enforcement personnel at the operating level had the same whacked-out attitudes as this Administration, few terrorists would get caught, and those few would be let off.

The name of both “political correctness” and “jihad” (they are one and the same) is Afro-Mohammedan Imperialism.

Mayor Bloomberg was wrong. It wasn’t Obamacare that drove the bomber to act.

It was the 1600 apartments in Jerusalem.

Muslims are good people until they start following Islam to the letter. But, that’s mean and unfair and prejudiced to say. Got it, Media.

Zen Buddhism ? In Waziristan ?

Surely (of course :) ) you jest.

Contessa whatshername, Geraldo and a whole lot of Progressives are apoplectically disappointed that Shahzad wasn’t the “white guy” changing his shirt, some tea party person angry at Obamacare or another Timothy McVeigh.

Perhaps they will need to seek counseling.

It is very destructive to their preferred narrative to have, yet another, Islamist Wacko hatching, yet another, plot to kill Americans.

  7. That article would be pure Monty Python if it weren’t so tragic.

FYI Mr. Simon, I added your post on your encounter with Ahmadinejad to my new “Really Fine Posts by Others…” list, as it was the one that brought you to my attention in the first place. :-)

CBS tops AP with this headline:

“Faisal Shahzad’s Motive Shrouded in Mystery”

You can see it here: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/05/05/national/main6462351.shtml?tag=cbsContent;cbsCarousel

Hiding in plain sight, it is only unknowable to those who refuse to see.

At the core of this policy is the resolute refusal to involve our nation into a religious war. Hence the iinsistance that the operative paradigm be secular and progressive. We don’t want to declare war on a billion Muslims. Heaven forfend.

Thus we are at war with not with Islam but with terrorism. Official fantasy has it that terrorists are a diverse group. Thus Mike Bloomberg’s premature conjecture that the Times Square bomber was (a teabagger? Guns and Bible hugger?) protesting Obamacare.

During WWII, Germans were depicted in both the press and in government publications as ravening beasts. Bloodthirsty, rapine and cruel. Irredeemably evil. Japanese were slant eyed yellow monkeys with thick eyeglasses. Crafty and predatory and otherwise of a kind with the Germans.

I have no evidence that this vision of our enemies won the war but it certainly did no harm. A generation after the war, all was forgiven and Germany (half of it, at least) and Japan were our allies. And happily so. After a crushing defeat by the Americans who settled for nothing less than unconditional surrender, the defeated Axis powers were especially appreciative of American magnanimity in victory. And Americans, glad for peace, newly world dominant and looking to the future were, if anything, sympathetic to their defeated former enemies and the postwar hardships they suffered.

So why the painful sensitivity to honestly identifying our enemy in the current conflict? Since nine-eleven, the Americans been subjected to a barrage of propaganda intended to keep us from venting anger at Arabs or Muslims. The underlying premise—that Americans are a violent and vengeful people is insulting. Moreover it belies the facts. Outrages against Arabs and Muslims, if such there be, are exceedingly scarce.

Nonetheless, Hon. Mike Bloomberg soberly warns New Yorkers against retaliatory acts of violence and bigotry following the identification of the Times Square bomber as a naturalized Pakistani and not the mass-murdering heathcare protester hizzoner imagined.

I learned today—just a passing fact on one of the news programs—that ten thousand Pakistanis were naturalized this year. I don’t want to sound prejudiced but aren’t there any Tibetans who want to move to the United States? Dutchmen? Danes? Hindus? Buddhists?

    • Or… how about the USA just freezes all immigration. It isn’t going to kill anyone, despite the claims to the contrary, and the rescue principle surely means the rescuer has to be safe before attempting rescue… same with the millions of fake refugees travelling across 10-30 countries each to get into the western country of their choice. How come their lives weren’t in danger in any of those other countries but they kept travelling anyway? Well gee, what would you rather be a citizen of, Greece or the USA? Indonesia, or Australia? Pathetic stuff. Immigration should be frozen in the Western world for economic and security reasons for 12 months. And even if it was, thousands would still be legally allowed in since bureaucrats and politicians flout the law hourly anyways.

The Roman empire began its decline when emperors became detached from reality. Were they any less detached than our political leadership today?

Political correctness requires that you not see what is plain, not say what is true. The War on Terror went away upon the circulation of a memorandum in the federal bureaucracy. Then bombing atrocities became man-caused disasters. Islam evidently must not appear in any official document or utterance unless in a flattering light. “The religion of peace,” for example. What a bitter joke that is. No wonder Muslims grow ever bolder in their demands for special treatment. The Fort Hood massacre within hours became not a tragedy but the occasion for another call for inclusiveness and understanding. As for the dead and wounded — can’t we just move on? The fog of euphemism began in the Bush administration, so it’s not purely a liberal disease. Government is trying to deaden our minds to reality, another reason it can’t be trusted.

PC is mainstream to the point where I even knee-jerk think in PC. UGH

He traveled to “lawless Waziristan to learn bomb making”. This is another example of public schools failing their students. School vouchers, that the Obama Administration has opposed, would have allowed him to get a better education.

  13. 13. Joe

Our feminized (and feminazied) society can hardly function any more. We have become oversensitive sheep.

  14. 14. Swami

Do you wonder if our enemies are equally clueless? Do announcements in Waziristan mosques declare: “Our Mujahadin training camp in Baba Ganoosh has been bombed by mysterious aircraft. We have no idea what the motivation might have been.”
