The Most Interesting Thing About the SOTU
The most interesting thing about the State of the Union – a particularly drab speech by an increasingly drab and peevish man – was the absence of Hillary Clinton from the audience. I know there is an excuse – she had an important meeting in London – but it does seem odd, doesn’t it? Such meetings can usually wait a day when the Secretary of State is involved.
I found the speech itself numbing. I have long since lost interest in listening to Obama who seems such an inauthentic person. He’s rather like watching someone on an infomercial. You glance up to see if you missed anything – maybe a special offer – and then you go back to what you are doing, in my case flicking back and forth to NBA.com to check the Lakers-Pacers scores. The Democrats didn’t even seem enthusiastic to me.
Now my mind keeps drifting back to Hillary and the Drudge headline. What gives? Has she already signaled she is going to run in 2012? Crazier things have happened. Much crazier. Or is there just so much mutual disaffection they can’t stand to be around each other?
As for the actual content of the speech, yawn. The one bright spot is that the President might finally be considering nuclear energy. (Hurray-join the modern world.) On most other issues he apparently did not “pivot,” to use the parlance du jour, or the euphemism (for valueless hypocrite) du jour, as the case may be. He’s even still behind cap-and-trade, of all ludicrous swindles. When, at the end, he assured us with that faux vehemence people employ in such situations that “I am not going to quit!” my only thought was – so what else is new?
The good news is the Lakers won handily. They were in a slump.

“It does seem odd that Hillary wasn’t there, doesn’t it?”
WOW. I didn’t even notice that.
Well, in these days of terrorist attacks, if merely on presidential succession grounds, I can’t fault Hillary’s absence. In fact, I thought that Bush should have had fewer high-ranking people at his speeches before Congress.
Reportedly, Obama told Hillary it was much more important that she go to London to yak about Yemen than come to his SOTU. But the real story, as you imply, might be very different.
In London, at yet another (self)important conference, they’re saying things like…”we can’t address terrorism in Yemen until we address the underlying causes of terrorism” and the conferees have (reminiscent of Iran talking and North Korea talking and global warming talking) agreed to meet again to talk some more about terrorism in Yemen.
All the time I was thinking that any “failed state” is ripe for terrorists to set up shop. Seems like a no brainer and why the Saudis have been (rather brutally on occasion) able to stop the infiltration and Yemen (and Somalia and Afghanistan and, to some extent, Pakistan) not so much.
Perhaps Hillary concluded she had seen enough of the “infomercial” too and was content to see it at a later time, so she can fast forward through the interruptions. Even if Hillary leaves public life at the end of this term, it will be a while before the “Hillary for President” sign is moved from its place of honor in my dining room. But enough about my favorite candidate from the 2008 primaries.
I did not think Obama would fall this far this fast, can we get some things done now?
I watched it during commercial breaks during CSI:Miami (Caine is one cool dude,) and the end, which did not come soon enough. Here is a quick summary:
“I, me, smarmy ciche, pose, me, I, we [Nancy jumps up like a zombie who sees fresh brains,]me…bad Republicans!! Bad!![standing ovation from Left side] I , me, we, me, I, Bad Supreme Court!! Bad!![standing ovation from Left side, again] I, me, I, pose, we, me, me ,me, dance around this issue, dance around that one, …” ad nauseum.
He’s not considering more nucular plants! He knows his commie DoE will find reasons not to approve them or delay them dozens of years. The Kenyan wants unicorn urine technology and rainbow lasers to provide the wonderful jobs (will elves get priority?) but won’t approve ANY oil/gas drilling permits.
With his arguments of increasing exports and improving education, if he or you believed what he said, he’d be opposing the unions. They are his pimps; he ain’t going to do that!
Note to self:
(1) Minimal tax cuts by Obama targeting middle class – good
(2) Real tax cuts by Bush targeting middle class – bad
Progressive ideas and the resulting conclusions are so confusing….
I had a small candle of hope burning for him that perhaps he would stand up there and admit he had made a mistake with the panty-bomber and that mirandizing foreign terrorists would no longer take place.
Right.
This zombie inhabiting the White House will ruin us all in pursuit of his social engineering. He reminds me of the sort of mentality that was sure eugenics was a good idea … or lobotomies. If this monster is in power when the jihadis finally nuke us he will make himself dictator in a NY minute.
Obama looked tired. Worn out. Did he stop dyeing his hair after the election? It has only been a year. We’re accustomed to seeing the toll the office takes over six or eight years (Doesn’t Slick Willy look good with white hair?), but 12 months? The proverbial bloom is off the rose. The man is in way over his head. The finale wasn’t a finale–more of a pfffft. I almost felt sorry for him except it is too easy to remember the damage he is doing to this country every day.
7. They’ve already streamlined the process of granting applications. Besides, nuclear power has a large academic support base- who do you think is going to benefit from all the need to train all those new nuclear engineers we need? Humanities professors that aren’t completely delusional also realize that engineering majors subsidize their departments with distribution requirements. Then there’s the NRC- they’ll need a bunch of new employees to enforce the regulations on new power plants. A new round of START talks is dependent on a large nuclear fleet consuming the weapons grade material freed up by decommissioning warheads. Then there’s the fact that nuclear power companies will back him on Cap and Trade. The only things I’m really concerned about here are that 1. Obama has yet to keep a promise, and 2. Knowing Obama, he’ll try to link new nuclear plants to passing Cap and Trade (then again, if we build enough nuclear plants to replace fossil fuels, is Cap and Trade really a problem?). The global warming nonsense notwithstanding, burning coal does release a great deal of real pollution (fine particulates, radioisotopes, mercury, and unless subjected to purification techniques, sulfur oxides).
Re: His statement that he won’t quit:
1. What President quits? This is nothing new, but as usual he has a way of saying words that sound like something which, in fact, mean nothing.
2. I wondered if it was a back hand dig at Palin.
3. As for his commitment to not quitting, all I can say is, I wish he would (of course, then we’ve got Biden).
Nothing will happen. Nada. Zilch. Except that earnest, practical Republicans will keep winning races and now that the Supreme Court is pissed off, it is time to file those constitutional protections and personal freedoms lawsuits.
Told you he is just a plain old fashioned jerk.
Was it just me or did Obama seem like he was mad at everyone? Like we’re not worshiping him like we’re supposed to; like he requires.
I was so excited I actually watched a few seconds… the rest of the time I watched shopnbc… much more excitement shopping for watches…
Then Karl Rove gave me the disappointing stats… over 90 references to “I” and more than 20 “me”s…
I thought it was watching Joe Cocker sing “I am so beautiful to me”
Re:global warming
Wait… “overwhelming scientific evidence on climate change” ?
ummmmm…. oh dear. Mr. Chu, WTF. Past-transgressions aside, I know you are better than this. How can you let him say this?
My persistent fantasy (ever since Hillary accepted the SOS position) is that she took it only to resign at some moment calculated for maximum political effect (it will be an issue of national security and the way this administration is going it may come sooner than later) and then go on to oppose Obama for the Democratic nomination in 2012. She is a political animal down to the bone and there is nothing she won’t do to stay in the game – We shall see…
First SOTU I’ve skipped since 9/11.
Hillary was probably passing around keychains that say “Vote Bill Clinton UN Secretary General 2011!”
oppose Obama for the Democratic nomination in 2012.
I thought that until someone on another forum pointed out that the Clintons probably will NOT want to inherit the ruins of Obama’s presidency. International NGOs have more money and less oversight. Look for them to make their move onto a much bigger global stage and groom Chelsea for a run at Congress.
He must have called the Pacers before his speech.
18. arhooley: next in line will be a South American.
Our country can’t afford to stagnate. We need some sane ADULTS stat.
Wait. Hilary was where? The cabinet was there buy she missed the speech? lol. rut roh barry.
Roger,
Reading your riff tonight turned a lightbulb on in my head. See, you wrapped things up with a
sports reference. Which sent a smidgen of acetylcholine off in my brain in an unexpected direction.
When a baseball manager makes a special statement to the press saying he’s not quitting, almost always, for
one reason or another, his days are numbered.
When Obama, tonight, emphasized he’s not a quitter, was he telling us he’s leaving the dance early? I wonder. Regards, Rachel
When a blindly worshipful Obamanut is confronted with the accusation that the object of his reverence is a LYING MOHAMMEDAN BOGUS POTUS their reaction is to either pretend they have not heard or to say ‘I never knew or thought that Obama went to school in Indonesia registered as Barry Soetero and as a Muslim and that he HIMSELF confirms this in his “OWN???” book ‘Dreams of my Father’ where he talks of being ‘chastised by the Teacher for pulling faces in KORANIC STUDIES’ Now anyone who knows Indonesia as I do would KNOW that ONLY MUSLIMS take or indeed are ALLOWED to take KORANIC STUDIES in Indonesian schools. So the ‘I have always been a Christian’ spouting Obama is a LIAR and as he was also registered as an INDONESIAN CITIZEN with his Stepfathers name it is safe to say he is LYING about always being AMERICAN too. So what hope for the USA if they have a LYING MOHAMMEDAN as President and their MSM and the Democratic Party is too complicit or too stupid to sniff it out and the opposition is too SCARED to out him in case they are called RACISTS. Exposure of his REAL birth Certificate, School and College Records (where it is rumoured he was receiving aid as a FOREIGN STUDENT) and his Passport Records would clear this up once and for all and is of course why he is spending Millions and Millions of TAXPAYERS Dollars on Lawyers fighting tooth and nail to keep them hidden.
So far, Obama has never completed a term of office to which he was elected. Maybe Rachael is on to something.
Obama is an unpleasant person. His speeches drip with condescension. He’s become unbearable. There’s something really wrong when I watch the President of the United States give a speech and the only thing I can think of is Benito Mussolini with that chin jutting out. And then I thought of Dante, the opening lines to The Divine Comedy, “In the middle of the journey of our life, I found myself in a dark wood, for the straight way was lost.” We are definitely in the dark these days and the light worker’s batteries have died.
19. The Clintons won’t inherit anything, whether they try to outflank Obama or not. Even if they are successful (and even Ronald Reagan couldn’t outflank a sitting President, and Ford was unelected at that), the broken base and the fed up American people won’t elect her in November 2012. Of course if she were convinced she could pull it off, the irony is that she could wind up handing Mike Huckabee the presidency; ironic because we would have come full circle- Huckabee got his start in politics in a special election to replace Jim Guy Tucker as Lt. Governor after Tucker took over for Bill Clinton upon Clinton’s election to the presidency. Then, the Whitewater scandal resulted in Tucker going to jail, handing Huckabee the governorship.
could just be reading too much into this.
since 9/11 is become practice to not allow all of those in the immediate line of succession to be in the same place at the same time.
If, with all his advisors, the president can’t determine which relative pronoun to use in commenting clauses, or where to place the adverb ‘only’ in a sentence, and hasn’t learned that things differ from other things and not than other things, how can you expect him to get other fine but important details and distinctions right?
President Obama said: “The more that TV pundits reduce serious debates into silly arguments, and big issues into sound bites, our citizens turn away.”
That’s almost right; it should be: “The more that elected representatives, appointed commissars, and their media lackeys reduce serious debates into silly arguments, and big issues into sound bites, the more thinking citizens rightly ascertain that they’ve been willfully and mischievously deceived and, accordingly, turn away.”
I watched it once, then twice. The line that the Constitution expresses the ideal that we all “are created equal” indicates that the speech writing was rushed—-It is the Declaration of Independence, not the Constitution, that says “We hold these truths to be self evident….
The speech was too long, too defensive, and poorly organized. Reagan would have spent the first 10 minutes talking about the Haiti earthquake, the Americans who died, the stories of heroism and rescue and the need for public and private resources to rebuild the second oldest republic. Tears and standing ovations — with survivors sitting next to the First Lady.—- then the next 10 or 15 minutes about Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan and our brave men and women fighting there, with stories of bravery and sacrifice —- with the families of the CIA casualties sitting next to the VP’s wife. etc etc— After softening up the audience, then tackle the mundane policy.
Apparently this type of structure is beyond the ability of the White House Speech writers. For them the narrative must always be about the President.
Visually, the heads of Biden and Pelosi seemingly perched on his shoulders were very distracting, especially the continuous nodding by the VP which did not so much suggest assent, as it indicated the approval of a tutor listening to recitation—- or does he just have a screw loose in his neck?
“We’re working with Muslim communities around the world to promote science and education and innovation.” Really? He and who else? or does he use the royal plural?
“We have gone from a bystander to a leader in the fight against climate change.” From which particular bystander to which leader did you go? Does he mean that the US went from being a bystander to being a leader in the fight against climate change. This fight against climate change: is it anything like King Canutes’s demonstration that even a king cannot command the tides?
For myself, I shall not only fight against climate change (though the climate has always changed and will always change), I shall also fight against the laws of thermodynamics, against sunspots, against “Welfare Blues” (by Blue-Ringed Octopus) slipping down the charts, against “Doubt, Schism and Chaos generally,”* against aposiopesis…
This is no mystery. One Cabinet official is to remain away during the SoTU speech, so an enemy attack can’t decapitate our ENTIRE government.
I’m sure Hillary got the short straw. Or maybe she just volunteered. Or simply had better things to do… like wash her hair or do laundry.
(off-topic) Anyone else see how sour the JCS looked throughout the speech? Pinched faces throughout. Do these guys earn their pay obeying this chump’s orders, or what?
Hillary can always watch the ones speech on the Ipod he plans to give her.
No wait..
Hill is so special she might get one on that new
MosesApple Tablets.I think we all missed the point of his speech.
To his perceived American third world voters he was sticking out his chin and saying take that ‘White’ man!
Give me your tired, poor and sick,
and watch ‘Me’ stick it to the rich mothers,
and they ain’t nothing they can do about it.
You bankers and Wall streetwalkers are in for a long haul-
better hide your bonuses in freezer bags.
If Obama ends being a good president or is a moderate failure then Hillary has no chance of getting the Democratic Party nomination.. If Obama is such an epic failure he is not even able to clinch the Democratic nomation then whatever the candidate and his opponent the Democrats will be lucky if they manage to win in two or three states so Hillary will not run.
Her only chance is either in 2016 or if Obama decided not to run in 2012 despite not being too bad a President.
I, Me, …..blame Bush.. . I, Me. . . .the”o” is the same, nothing changed. He has doubled down, continuing his race to destruction (hopefully only his own, and not the nation’s).
It’s been a long time since a sitting president, eligible for re-election and willing to run, was denied renomination by his party. But as matters stand now, the Democrats will be slaughtered in 2012 if they insist on renominating Barack Hussein Obama.
If there’s a Democrat out there who’s capable of bucking the party kingmakers, it’s Mrs. William Jefferson Clinton. Whether the DNC and its strategists are smart enough to reach for that straw, we must wait to see. Whether they could hold the White House without an act of God, regardless of who they nominate…well, we must wait to see about that, too. Myself, I doubt it.
Since this president has a tendency to do the opposite of what he says, we can hope this holds and he quits. BHO is not “wired” for this job, anything less than hero worship is no fun for the job hoppin’ man. It’s fair to say he enjoys the perks of the job but not the work required. (Somewhere there is a community to be organized, perhaps not the health care community)
Did anyone else find the “run for the hills” comment odd? Since most of his true believers live in urban areas, what hills? Or was this another line that was supposed to make no sense, like the planet cooling and the seas doing something–his “just words” are so memorable!?!
Until he decides to quit or not quit, I’ll still be here in flyover country, clinging to my guns and religion, resting up to work hard for someone in 2012 who loves this country and who will restore our standing in the world. We bow to no one.
Infomercial …without a product.
My assumption is that Obama was referring to smoking when he said ‘I won’t quit’.
He was all over the map. His lecturing was annoying. He doesn’t get it. The luster is gone. The pretty package is empty.
But this is only the beginning of the end of Obama. Wait it until next year’s SOTU after the GOP sweeps the mid-terms. He didn’t change course. It’s now too late. The economy won’t recover. He will be a laughing stock and it will serve him right.
Taking credit for ending the war in Iraq (which Bush won over his opposition) takes a special kind of gall. Saying he stands up for freedom when he has stood down on Iran since their inchoate revolution started is more gall heaped on delusion.
By this time next year this far left poseur will be unhinged.
1. Go nuclear? He lied about that in his campaign also.
2. Forgive college loans? Insulting. Better to defund climbing walls and other such crap bought with govt largess to “higher learning”.
3. Jobs? He means census takers to recruit dead and illegal Dem voters.
No, Obama is not going to quit. The fool is determined to drive off the cliff — which would be fine with me except for the fact that he is planning to take the American economy with him.
Incredibly, Obama appears completely oblivious to the reality that a solid majority of Americans don’t want his socialist/fascist/economy-killing agenda and aren’t going to stand by idly while he destroys one large segment of the economy after another.
The fact that Obama can manage to spin the election of a fairly conservative Republican to Ted Kennedy’s seat in Massachusetts as some sort of indicator of SUPPORT for his insane policies tells us just how utterly, dangerously, frighteningly delusional this clown and his advisors must be.
Our nation remains in grave danger.
Teleprompter Barbie read his usual speech.
“He’s not considering more nucular plants! He knows his commie DoE will find reasons not to approve them or delay them dozens of years.”
It is almost a waste of time to come out for nuclear energy—unless you are also advocating the speed up of the legal and regulatory processes. Indeed, Obama is very well aware that the leftists will throw a number of monkey wrenches into the works.
Hillary Clinton is probably distancing herself from Barack Obama. She wants to get off the sinking ship. And there is also the matter of payback! The Clintons will seek their revenge. They have long memories.
Crap, garbage, rubbish, then more like that -
If there is someting amazing at dba Obama, that is his phenomenal, insouciant incompetence. January last year, 900.000 people lost employment (then the losses stabilized for the rest of the year at a horryfying approx. 800.00 a month), and this guy found that what this nation needs at these disastrous times is… a health care reform, issue which has been anyway acknowledged as being of marginal interest for the nation.
And after that followed one year of legislative manoevering and time wasting – but great opportunity for dba Obam to travel abroad, bow, then talk about himself, and amplifying the political and military predicaments this country is prey to.
And now, with an unemployment still at a horrifying fifty years + high, dba Obama found that some more gay rights (don’t ask don’t tell) is what people should be concerned about.
Truly, truly amazing this exercise in incompetence and liberal grandstanding.
The only positive thing in dba Obama’s speech was the fact that he hasn’t invoked Bush as the source of all evils which he is now so selflessly struggling to solve – I am really impressed. Yet even so, he managed to remain in the limits of his normal cowardice and boorishness and openly attack SCOTUS.
Dba Obama, the mystery editor of the Harvard Law, who never wrote a legal piece in his two years tenure there, who never pleaded in a trial, whose entire lawyerly career in Chicago was spent feet on the table, inventing & jotting down reminscences for Bill Ayres to write them in in his “autobiography”, who in 9 years career at Chicago Law (where he was hired over 160 candidates uniformly and significantly better qualified tham him), didn’t write a single law article…
… and now this clown is openly attacking SCOTUS from his presidential position and in a SOTU speech.
God, proud I am I am not a Democrat voter – what a debasement, what a gross buffoonery, and what a grandiose idiocy is dba Obama’s presidential tenure -
#27/Sally:
[...] I can think of is Benito Mussolini with that chin jutting out. [...]
As Mussolini’s jaw problem, I don’t know – yet, I have to confess that when it comes to Obama’s “tic”, it strangely reminds me of the same uncontrollable jaw and head movements that can be observed at the crack users -
Freightening
I was very concerned and freightened when I saw Obama openly condemn the Supreme Court Justices while they sat about 5 feet away from him. I was further horrified to watch so many so called legislators jump to their feet cheering Obama on. I thought I was watching a speech given by Sadam Heussain. I fully expected to see armed guards coming down the aisle to take the justices outside to be shot. This is a very freightening display, something seen in a communist country.
In some ways, the SOTU was other wordly, and in others it reminded me of what a good elitist Bolshevik would say. The following selection is what I have in mind here. (It comes near the end of the SOTU.)
POTUS said: “But remember this – I never suggested that change would be easy, or that I can do it alone. … And when you try to do big things and make big changes, it stirs passions and controversy. … Those of us in public office can respond to this reality by playing it safe and avoid telling hard truths. We can do what’s necessary to keep our poll numbers high, and get through the next election instead of doing what’s best for the next generation.”
So, he “can respond to this reality” or not. He appears not to want to respond to it. He is pretending there is another reality in another universe. Of course, he is just continuing with his other wordly and delusional course that became apparent after the Scott Brown victory in Massachusetts.
Then, at the end, he says: “We can do what’s necessary … instead of doing what’s best for the next generation.” Here, the elitist in him comes through. It’s not the people who elected him who know what’s good for them; only he knows what’s good for them. It’s kind of like the parent telling the little child: Take this (vile tasting) medicine, you little brat.
He of course ended that with a perfectly good Bolshevik statement about taking our lumps now for the good of the next generation. The Bolsheviks always promised that the pain and suffering of this generation are justified by the good it will do for the next generation. Somehow, though, the next generation never arrived, but the pain and suffering of this generation continued on.
@Rachel
I can think of one other president who used the phrase “I have never been a quitter.”
Nixon used that phrase in his resignation speech.
I’m just sayin’.
PAP FROM THE SAP!
“Dba Obama, the mystery editor of the Harvard Law (Review)”
Carol Platt Liebau was a staff member during Barack Obama’s tenure as boss. She says that he rarely ever entered the office! Obama would appear once in awhile, shoot the bull for a short time—and then leave. He had practically zilch involvement with the publication on a day-to-day basis.
I was one of the very few who warned about Obama’s education. The vast majority of Americans have been conned into believing a soft-science Ivy League degree is normally worthy of respect. On the contrary, it usually deserves to be spit on. This is especially true since various affirmative action policies were implemented in the 1960s.
Roger,
Hillary told Tavis Smiley that she was exhausted by the Secretary of State job and couldn’t imagine doing it for eight years. Then, she repeated that she is not interested in running for president anytime soon.
She is probably exhausted dealing with the Obama White House, which lacks the political savvy and raw energy of the Clinton White House. She is a varsity player stuck on the JV.
No wonder she decamped for London. It was a chance to talk to adults.
rich
Hillary Clinton is probably distancing herself from Barack Obama. She wants to get off the sinking ship. And there is also the matter of payback! The Clintons will seek their revenge. They have long memories.
The Clintons sent a message to their fellow countrymen. You’ve got him. Now deal with it.
Mr. Simon:
“a particularly drab speech by an increasingly drab and peevish man ”
I’d humbly suggest that you forgot to add “pedantic” as well. I actually followed the lead of Majority Leader Senator Reid and fell asleep about an hour in. Woke up in the middle of Guv’nah McDonnell.
For just a minute thought that I had had a year-long bad dream, and that a common-sense old school Southern Republican was back in the White House.
“Now my mind keeps drifting back to Hillary and the Drudge headline. What gives?”
I ken that the Alleged Hawaiian was as happy to have Stalin in a Pantsuit away from the Congress last night as she was to not be associated any more than absolutely necessary with this unprecedented failure of an administration.
While Obama stood there making pretty chin music for the moonbats in the Liberal Sweat Lodge to yammer and bleat about, having the “Coulda Been” sitting there for the TeeVee cameras looking like butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth woulda definitely harshed his high.
And Hillary doesn’t drink anyone’s kool-aid but her own, (and Lord knows that THAT brew is strong enough to KILL most grown men). Like everyone else, I also suspect that she’ll be the first to “steal a lifeboat”, but then again, she didn’t make Slick Willy walk the plank after his hijinks with the intern and the cigar and such.
Y’know…these aren’t NORMAL people.
Hillary and Bill are preparing to challenge Obama after he drives the Democrat party to ruin in November. They intend to pose as a centrist alternative to Obama’s radicalism, and repackage Bill’s triangulation tactics, to restore Democratic viability. When that happens, decades of corrupt pandering to feminazis and minorities will explode into internecine fighting as the Blacks demand a second Obama term, and the feminazis support Hillary. The result will be a crippled and divided Democrat party unable to prevent a Republican recapture of the presidency. It’s going to be fun to watch the 60′s degeneration destroy itself!
#49 DAVID THOMSON Not only is it soft-science,it’s also an affirmative action degree-the academic equivalent of the “welfare mortages”handed out to the indigent, feckless, and greedy,by the demtards.Like the mortages, it’s backed by NOTHING!
If he wasn’t wreaking so much havoc, I would almost (ALMOST!) wish that he’d get elected to a second term and get it over with. Otherwise, he’ll be hanging around presidential politics forever and we’ll never get rid of him.
I’ve often wondered what he’ll do after being President. I’m sure a quiet, dignified retirement is out of the question. I just hope he doesn’t cause too much mischief and the media doesn’t pay him as much attention as I’m sure he’ll want.
Hmmm….I used to think Hillary was the most dangerous, detestable woman in Washington. I now have a sort of empathetic pity for her. I feel her pain.
The repulsive Lady Speaker, Nasty Pelosi, has clearly snatched her crown.
But, did anyone notice how bitchy the First Lady Michelle has been lately? Did you see her in the SOTU speech? “She get’s embarassed.” And remember her insolent behavior as Barry was signing the Nobel Peace Prize book? Perhaps she’s vying for Nasty’s crown.
~ The Infidel Alliance
Did anyone else find it odd or unprecedented that the only person in the gallery mentioned by name was his wife, twice?
At David Thomson: It isn’t just nuclear power that won’t happen, the ecos at EPA will stop off shore drilling or any increase is fossil fuel supplies. These socialists think “green energy” is an economic policy and a jobs program!
The meeting in London is about finalizing European commitments to Afghanistan. It is a lot more important than listening to Barry, since he admits that he never says anything new–”As I’ve said before…”
That there was a scheduling conflict says more about the unprofessionality of Obama’s staff.
Hillary chose the privacy of her hotel room where she could participate in multiple teleconferences with the cloak and dagger crowd in davos. see speech on tv with volume off and go about the family business.
Remember, today you need to be able to function in two places at once….or your not playing on the same page with modern physics.
“#49 DAVID THOMSON Not only is it soft-science,it’s also an affirmative action degree-the academic equivalent of the “welfare mortages”handed out to the indigent, feckless, and greedy,by the demtards.Like the mortages, it’s backed by NOTHING!”
Please note my cautious rhetoric. My condemnation is reserved solely for the soft-science degrees. A hard-science Ivy League credential is usually well earned! Those departments were not severely damaged by the affirmative action policies. Weaker students like Barack Obama gravitated toward the easier liberal arts courses.
I thought the speech was the most cynically hypocritical address I have ever seen. Challenging the GOP to work with him after totally shutting them out for a year, claiming to support the opposition in Iran while not having lifted a finger, championing fiscal restraint while having increased the deficit by a factor of three, ending the war in Iraq implying that it was his doing, while having never admitted that the surge worked and having fiught against every effort to win the war, etc. Slamming the GOP and SCOTUS while decrying partisanship.
The guy is shameless.
The only issue I have with Mr Somon’s analysis was that I thought the Dems showed a very frenetic and childish enthusiasm applauding every statement no matter how inane. I expected to hear ‘a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush’ accompanied by all Dems jumping once again to their feet and going wild.
The only comfort is that, after the tea parties, I have a sense that there are more people out here who see the truth that I had previously thought.
maybe it/she is on a secret mission to Iran or North Korea.
I think we will see her trying to do a better dance the Madelaine No-All-That-Bright did in N. Korea.
#65 David Thomson. We don’t disagree.Last time I checked,Obama’s degree was in law, complimented by a an informally-earned street degree in rabble rousing/welfare dependency promotion.Hard science degrees remain hard to earn in most American colleges, that is,until the libtard doctrine of disparate impact, forces faculties to award hard science degrees to unqualified minorities.
Does anyone have the final “Pelosi Jump Count”? It looked like Congressional Calisthenics again.
They keep this up, and one of these days someone’s gonna keel over with a heart attack.
@ 54
Apparently Obama the Review offices enough for Carol Platt Liebau to form a high opinion of him and his intelligence:
http://townhall.com/columnists/CarolPlattLiebau/2007/03/05/the_barack_i_knew.
Only well connected, ideologues and sycophants could have enjoyed that speech. Otherwise it was painfully unwatchable and typically empty of any adult messages – just petulance, sloganeering and defending his ego.
I don’t remember the author or the exact quote but to paraphrase: “people don’t really listen to what a speaker says – they simply want to look into his eyes to see if he is an honest man.” The image I have is one of darting eyes looking over everyone’s head – disingenuous and scared.
Contrast SOTU with the official Republican rebuttal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LeSLVnAQSYo.
I am not a Republican and I sure wish Governor McDonnell would have left God out of what was a civic/ political speech – but the substance and logical thinking was evident.
And what is with all those pre-arranged punctuations of audience glee. Could we please tone that down. It can’t possibly be genuine and most people know this. I didn’t think I could dislike Pelosi any more – but she managed to bring me to a new level of visceral disgust. Even worse than the “Shriekers for Hillary” or the warbling women at Yasser Arafat speeches. Geeze.
The only way Hillary will run in 2012 is if Obama decides not to run, just like Johnson decided not to run in 1968. What would make Obama decide not to run? Oh, perhaps a combination of 12% unemployment, high interest rates, and high inflation, not to mention a gigantic budget deficit. The Democratic Party, after having such “stunning successes” with other poor candidates like Jimmy Carter, Walter Mondale, and Michael Dukakis, has learned its lesson and would probably not support Obama if things were that bad. Remember, the only thing that matters to liberals is obtaining and maintaining political power. So if liberals view Obama as a threat to their liberal or, worse, progressive agenda, they will certainly throw Obama under the bus. Well, at least Obama will not be alone under that bus, with people like Bill Ayers, Reverand Wright, and Van Jones keeping him company, to name just a few.
And for any of you conservatives and moderates that (thought you) heard something to like in what His Barrogance said, He was lying.
Given Hillarity’s age 2012 is her now or never moment. Rest assured she’ll go for it.
Teleprompter OBAMA, with his recurring I, my, me, is oblivious to the real AMERICA. His lecturing the AMERICAN PEOPLE, on how great he is wearing thin.
Watching HEAD BOBBING BIDEN and JUMPING JACK NANCY was more exciting than the teleprompter speech.
Hillary was probably glad to be out of the country. The headbobbing and the jumping jacks, would have a little to much, even for her to endure.
Wonder what the SUPREME COURT has to say about being dressed down , in front of the whole world, by teleprompter OBAMA?
Obama is more than STUPID ON STUPID.
You took the words and thoughts right out of my mind and mouth. OB’s bland, dull and abiity to keep dronning along in a worthless and nothing speech about HIM and HIS fantasies (for himself and unfortunately for us if he gets his way) was most boring.
Very succinct, thank you sir.

I just wonder why nobody realized just “why” this person is helping so many terrorists, I came across a site where a person said they had found the name Steve Dunham from Mombasa hospital in Kenya, not sure if accurate, but for me it would explain why he will not pursue the shoebomber’s trying to radicalize other inmates in the prison he is in, why he does not make it more difficult for the Fort Hood shooter to be in a prison or more punished, military says he did his problem because of Stress, I have been under quantities of stress today, but have not killed anybody, and giving the Christmas plane bomber miranda rights, he is a MUSLIM, undercover and will do all he can to make it easy for these terrorists to live a good decent life in prison or whereever he can send them. God Bless America
clearly, he is moslem. he’s like some criminal who has a need to confess his heinous secret. every stupid, dull, disinformational speech he makes sure to give accolades to the effing moslems.
wonder what he’ll do when the nut in iran mines the straits of hormus. this guy is underwater.
i heard the first paragraph of the sotu and turned to “launch my line” which i found much more informative and plus they had a plan, and no moslems.
