PajamasXpress blogger Ron Radosh and his wife Allis have won The Washington Book Institute Prize for 2009 for their book A Safe Haven: Harry S. Truman and the Founding of Israel. The prize carries with it a cash award of $30,000.

According to the Washington Institute: The Book Prize, established to highlight new nonfiction books on the Middle East, is among the world’s most lucrative literary awards. Winners were announced before an audience of more than 300 journalists, diplomats, scholars, and members of the Institute’s Board of Trustees at the organization’s annual Weinberg Founders Conference in Leesburg, Virginia.

All of us here at Pajamas Media and PJTV are tremendously proud of Ron and Allis and congratulate them both for their well-deserved honor. We are also proud to have Ron as one of our PajamasXpress bloggers and look forward to continuing our relationship with him in the future.

    Congratulations to them both.

Imagine, being honored for creating something of substance, and it wasn’t even (allegedly) ghost-written by some guy from the neighborhood! Not only that, 30 Large still buys a decent “date night” out in Manhattan, so they tell me.

  2. 2. Lightnin' Hopkins

Couldn’t resist the snark. I realize it is a prestigious honor for a book on a serious and still important subject. Again, congrats to Mr. and Mrs. Radosh.

  3. 3. Delia

How awesome! I adore Ron Radosh! YAYYYYYYYYY!

    GO TEAM RADOSH!

    WHOOP WHOOP!

    :D

    Oops. I left out Allis!

Go team Ron & Allis Radosh!

    WHOOP WHOOP!

    There.

    :D

    Congratulations !

In an era when once-prestigious awards are now transparently politically slanted and motivated (Pulitzers for books and journalism, National Book Awards, Nobels for Peace and Literature, to name but a few examples) the prestigious Washington Institute for Near East Policy book award is one of the few truly meritocratic book prizes remaining in the world. Warmest kudos to Allis and Ron Radosh, who—for Kansas City area readers—will be speaking in KC on Tuesday evening, October 20, 2009 at 6 PM:
The Truman Forum at the Kansas City Public Library – Plaza Branch
Allis and Ronald Radosh, the authors of the new book, A Safe Haven: Harry S Truman and the Founding of Israel, will tell the spellbinding tale of President Harry S. Truman?s crucial role in the founding of Israel. A book signing will accompany the presentation.

Jointly sponsored by the Harry S. Truman Library, the Jewish Community Relations Bureau/American Jewish Committee, and the Kansas City Public Library.

  7. 7. Donna V.

Congrats to Mr. Radosh. He is a fine writer and a man of integrity.

  8. 8. Belladonna Rogers

Donna V.: Allis Radosh is also to be congratulated. A former professor with a Ph.D., she co-researched and co-wrote the entire book. She is a woman of formidable intellect and is a powerful thinker and speaker and deserves your congratulations just as much as does her brilliant husband.

The $30,000 is nice—but probably a drop in the bucket compared to the money Ron and Allis Radosh have lost taking to task the fantasies of the leftist community. At the end of the day, it usually far more lucrative representing the left-wing point of view.

$30K? Wow. Mendacity sure pays well these days.

  11. 11. Delia

    9. Belladonna,

I made that mistake at first myself. I think you know Donna meant well and didn’t intend to demean the kudos to Allis [which btw is a very cool name].

    10. David Thomson,

I concur. The Radosh team could very easily make buko bucks with their combined and individual intellects if they were hard Leftists.

Ohhhhhhh but the evil dollar is only evil when it’s on the ‘right’ side.

    OY~

    Douche your brain, lie teller.

  13. 13. Gary Rosen

    “Douche your brain, lie teller.”

Delia, while I sympathize with the sentiment, I just wanted to point out that there is an unwarranted assumption in this imperative. No, not the “lie” part.

  14. 14. Delia

    14. Gary Rosen,

LOL! Yep. I shouldn’t have assumed that trolly McTrollerson actually had a cerebral cortex.

You are right. My apologies for leaving out Allis Radosh and my compliments and best wishes to both prize winners.

I did not mean to leave her out. I have been Ron Radosh’s fan ever since I read a fascinating article he wrote about Henry Wallace quite a few years ago.

Read the book, loved it. Well researched, good to read. This book should be required reading for High School social studies. One important point: the State department is a sore loser and continues to this day to try to reverse Harry Truman’s recognition of Israel. One message of the book’s narrative is that the leftist State Department administration continues to end-run their own foreign policy past the American people, the government ignores the will of the American electorate, the State Department’s ignorance encourages Arab terrorism. American voters for the most part support Israel and need to know how the leftist State department works exclusively against their interests undermining America’s support for Israel.
