Katerina vanden Heuvel of The Nation or the Student Movement Coordinating Committee for Democracy in Iran? [Well, we know who speaks the better Farsi.-ed.]
MEANWHILE: The SMCCDI says that polling places were kept open in Iran to force people to vote. Inflating statistics is the kind of thing, say, Pinochet would do, isn’t it, Ms. vanden Heuvel? Which side are you on?

Katerina vanden Heuvel instinctively has contempt for any individual or group which is pro-American. Authenticity is determined solely on how much they despise the United States. The very moment one of them speaks kindly about America—our own liberals will seek to destroy them.
What is the definition of ìUSA’s most militaristic neocons?î This is a not too subtle way of describing those people who allegedly take orders from Ariel Sharon. Vanden Heuvel and her ilk are anti-Semitic. But arenít a lot of them Jewish? Yes, but they are self hating Jews—and thereís no sense pretending otherwise. Pat Buchanan is not the greatest threat. No, not even slightly. Jews have far more to worry about from their own radical leftist brothers and sisters.
Roger,
The Iranian Election is a sham
No matter what the Euro Weenies may wish. It didn’t happen in the 30′s, why is there any reason these to think these tryants are any different?
Dr Zin and the SMCCDI can use everyone’s help NOW!
The Iranian people need to know that President Bush and the American people support their move for FREEDOM from this Islamofascist regime of Evil. The Mad Mullahs are actively filtering info going into Iran.
The MSM isn’t going out of their way to report President Bush’s statement on Iranian election either.
The Blogos now has the power to deliver this message to the world and to the Iranian people.
Now’s the time for all Americans to either stand up for what is right or shut up and get off the stage and quit whinning about GITMO.
See my post in the earlier thread about The Big A on how folks can help directly from their keyboards:

So, Katerina, the Iranian election is “open and transparent?”
Saddam’s “election” before the war was open and transparent too. It was transparent that your skull could develop a new openness if you didn’t vote for Saddam.
Roger:
During the period of the 60′s to the 80′s publications like the Nation were always pointing out the sin of the U.S. dealing with and ignoring repressive regimes. They would make heroes of the noble marxist opponents of the tryanical regimes and there would be no talk of the US needing to stay out of the situation or pleas for the American people to ignore there plight. Any businees that would try to do buisness with the tryanical regime would be pointed out as being co-conspirators in the political and personnel tortures of these brave dissedents.
Now the nation seems to be wanting us to stay out, not to even verbally encourage the freedom fighters in Iran. She even trys to burnish the image of this sham election. Oh, look, there are reform candidates. so what. Even if they were to win the Guardian Councill would veto any reform.
I think the democratic revolution will eventually occur but in the time until it does I think the US should point out the repression in Iran and give what support we can to those Iranians who want freedom. And the first step is not to dress up this pig of a government in high couture and say that it is a 6 foot model. The happy face she trys to paint on the election is just helping the Mullahs stay in power longer. I am suprised that KVH would become a cheerleader for a radical religous government that keeps women barefoot and pregnant.
This is the website of some American Nazis:
http://www.nsm88.com/index2.html
They are marginalized and impotent. Few people pay then any attention. Their leader is a guy named Jeff Schoep. Who in hell is he? Has anyone ever heard of him? How often is he invited to speak at a major intellectual institution or media outlet?
This is the website of the Nation magazine:
http://www.thenation.com/
These folks are, on a practical level, far more dangerous than the American Nazis. They interact daily with the political and intellectual elite of the United States. Does anyone think that Iím exaggerating? Come on, letís hear it.
I can’t get beyond wondering why Katerina always looks as though she smells something stinky. No, not metaphorically, but, really, her facial expression is how one looks if say, a dog has just pooped on one’s feet. Must’ve taken years of posing in front of the looking-glass.
…really, her facial expression is how one looks if say, a dog has just pooped on one’s feet.
True re: the face, but let me tell you, I saw Ms. Vanden Huevel at the UCLA Book Fair and…baby got back! Her face may be thin, but that booty…hey now!
“Iran’s most repressive clerics and the USA’s most militaristic neocons share a common interest: They’re very eager to see the failure of Iranian activism for democracy and human rights…The hardliners in both countries need each other. Theirs is a perverse, mutual dependency that dares not speak its name.”
The hate that “dares not speak its name” is anti-Americanism, here for the “neocons” as proxy for America. The dependency is projected, the author and the Nation are dependent on anti-Americanism. Of course this lady and the Nation may be simply bought out like Saddam did via money transfers through anti-sanctions groups.
Would it be excessively cynical to suggest that the question “which side are they on?” may be rhetorical?
Katerina “I suck lemons for fun” vanden Heuvel is a rich girl who dabbles, much like Arianna Huffington.
This Norman Solomon she widely quotes (the “mutual dependency that dares not speak its name”–LOL–sounds like something from an Ed Wood movie) is a piece of work in his own right. His World Tribunal on Iraq website describes the organization thusly:
Moonbats of a feather…(Solomon heavily touts this fellow Moin which now has me wondering about Moin.)
From SMCCDI:
How wonderful if true (I guess we’ll have to wait for the definitive word from Sean Penn Ace Reporter). And what’s all this about ballot boxes in American hotels??
Katerina learned her lessons early and has never forgotten them. She spouts the party line letter perfect every time. She and her hubby, the great Soviet/Russian expert professor Stephen Cohen are poster children for a cause whose time has come and gone.
Ahh, yes, the elite limousine liberal trustafarian knows all.
Seems to me, in a rational world, that being a “…great Soviet/Russian expert professor….” would better than ANYTHING else, insure support for all the conservative principles.
Way O/T but can’t resist the contrast of the Katerina type with the first female to be awarded the Silver Star since WWII:
“Sgt. Leigh Ann Hester of the 617th Military Police Company, a National Guard unit out of Richmond, Ky., received the Silver Star, along with two other members of her unit, Staff Sgt. Timothy Nein and Spc. Jason Mike, for their actions during an enemy ambush on their convoy. Other members of the unit also received awards.
Hester’s squad was shadowing a supply convoy March 20 when anti-Iraqi fighters ambushed the convoy. The squad moved to the side of the road, flanking the insurgents and cutting off their escape route. Hester led her team through the “kill zone” and into a flanking position, where she assaulted a trench line with grenades and M203 grenade-launcher rounds. She and Nein, her squad leader, then cleared two trenches, at which time she killed three insurgents with her rifle.
When the fight was over, 27 insurgents were dead, six were wounded, and one was captured.
The only thing we can think of to say is: Thanks.”
(ht WSJ)
It is the Sgt Hesters who keep the torch of liberty burning, not the KVHs.
Buddy. I was employing dripping satire. Cohen is a certified idiot who used to be a professor at Princeton. Princeton > NYU > not the direction you want to take.
He was net’s go-to guy who completely missed the demise of the Soviet Union. I heard he read about in the papers. On the bright side, he’s a past master of the academic stutter and his speech conveys his deep concern of matters pompous.
UPDATE FROM DR. ZIN ON IRANIAN [NON] ELECTION
Roger,
Seems as though the Iranian media is taking some clues from our MSM e.g. Rathergate et al. Tell the big lie because you believe it must be true:-)
*****
From Dr. Zin and his contacts. Please spread the word. PLEASE!
MSM Falling for Iranian Media Propaganda re Election Turnout. The Iranian media is pulling a fast one by using disinformation e.g. Rathergate. The Blogos needs to set the record straight!

First Reports on the Election – Why the media is getting it wrong
The western media is reporting a close election in Iran and some are claiming that it is so close that the government has extended the hours of the polling places in order to accommodate the voting public.
[...]
An Iranian opposition leader told me that while watching official Iranian TV reports on the election, they showed people going out to the polls in large numbers, but then they noticed a banner in the video clip was referring to the last Presidential election, not today’s. I was also told that another video report used video from the past parliamentary election. If the turnout was as is being reported they would have no reason to use old footage.
So what is the truth? Observers in Iran claim in most areas the voter turnout has been much lower than past elections. But it will take some time to have a better idea on what the turnout was in actuality.

Vanden Heuvel…a Dutch name. From New York. Her family has been in New York for generations. Her father, former UN Ambass is a patron of the Neiwe Amsterdam society…whose secret purpose is to take back New Amsterdam for Europe! (just kidding there) But it’s fascinating to think about. At the time of the American Revolution, it’s been estimated that only 1/3 of the colonists supported revolution. Another third were on the fence, and the last 1/3 were royalists. Including the great majority of New Yorkers. And NYC was occupied by the British for the entire war. Afterwards, royalists had to swear allegiance to the American government, but what did they really think about the revolutionaries who included a lot of rough farmers, not cultivated, urbane New Yorkers? My point (at last) is that maybe the New York elites have ALWAYS been more in Europe than in America. Some day I want to trace the social history of the NYC elites to see if they have always been dismissive and condescending to patriotic Americans.
Okay, John, google “draft riots” and see their support for Americans–below the Mason Dixon. But, all snide aside, if NYC is no longer “America’s City” then what is?
“Iran’s most repressive clerics and the USA’s most militaristic neocons share a common interest: They’re very eager to see the failure of Iranian activism for democracy and human rights”
But I thought the most militaristic neo-cons were under the naive impression that they could bring democracy and freedom to foreign countries at the point of a gun. Now you’re saying they actually don’t want to bring freedom and democracy to foreign countries? I’m confused. Can you please restrict yourself to one or the other of two mutually exclusive claims when trying to make a point.
This is what I love about blogs.
According to Joe Schmoe:
“I saw Ms. Vanden Huevel at the UCLA Book Fair and…baby got back! Her face may be thin, but that booty…hey now!”
I knew there had to be a “below-the-desk” reason Katerina was consistantly booked on the cable panel shows. I thought she might wear really short skirts or maybe she “went commando.”
Thanks Schmoe for clearing that up.
A number of speakers emphasized that the campaign is aiming to lay the groundwork for a movement–and this election is just the beginning…
They’ve been saying this since the election in which Khatami was first elected. And that changed nothing. Iran is a dictatorship of theocrats and will continue to be so until the mullahs are removed. A student council election has more impact on how a school is run than this one will have on how Iran is governed.
