Roger’s Rules

Hold on a minute: the President of the United States recently lectured his GOP colleagues that “You can’t just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done.” Really? Mr. Limbaugh is a man the left just loves to hate, partly because he is so acerbic but mostly because he is so successful. He gives voice to what many, many people believe. It’s just not what the hypertrophied left-wing of the Democratic party believes.

“You can’t just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done.” But let’s listen to what Mr. Limbaugh has to say today in The Wall Street Journal about the so-called “Stimulus” package coming to a tax-increase near you:

There’s a serious debate in this country as to how best to end the recession. The average recession will last five to 11 months; the average recovery will last six years. Recessions will end on their own if they’re left alone. What can make the recession worse is the wrong kind of government intervention.

I believe the wrong kind is precisely what President Barack Obama has proposed. I don’t believe his is a “stimulus plan” at all — I don’t think it stimulates anything but the Democratic Party. This “porkulus” bill is designed to repair the Democratic Party’s power losses from the 1990s forward, and to cement the party’s majority power for decades.

Sounds right to me. But wait, there’s more.

Not going to happen. Obama has learned politics Chicago style. Obama is developing his own patronage army. How many billions will go to schools? His way of thanking the NEA. Increase food stamps – more locked in votes. The list is too long for this comment. I am happy to see the Republicans are united in their opposition to this pork filled so-called stimulus package.

  2. 2. Ms. Attitude

Rush comes off as arrogant to me but I think he’s on to something with this. Too bad Queen Pelosi won’t listen.

  3. 3. gemma

I guess we’re assuming that BO really wants to stimulate the economy as opposed to stimulating his plan for nationalizing everything and at some point naming himself President for life.

  4. 4. Mark

Rush is energized today. I wonder if Obama’s attempt to use him as the face of his opposition has sparked Rush. His irony and satire this morning were sharp and to the point. I think Rush is going to enjoy having the challenge of a popular President and the syncophantic media (“the drive-bys”) trying to get to him. If today was any guide, I’m going to regret not getting to hear Rush on a regular basis.

  5. 5. Steve White

To add to the comments of Dutch, that ‘patronage army’ will be supplemented by the Army of True Believers — that is, all the folks who are on Axelrod’s mailing list, who signed up at myobama.com, etc. Every cult leader has one.

  6. 6. Saint Patton

I’m sorry, Roger, but you don’t seem to have a grasp of basic economics.

It’s should be obvious even to laymen that giving ten billion dollars to groups like ACORN and Planned Parenthood will provide countless jobs.

Also, according the the DFL, one trillion in stimulus will create four million jobs, therefore if we spend three trillion we can create twelve million jobs, four trillion for sixteen million jobs, five trillion for twenty million jobs, etc.

The obvious conclusion is there, right in front of you: if we spend one hundred trillion, we can provide every single worker in the nation with a government job that pays $100k per year.

  7. 7. SeanNC

It’s too bad Republican weakness and poor management of our tax dollars lead the Democrats to take over congress and bring us this crap sandwich.

Honestly, I blame the Republicans for this as much as I do the Democrats. If they hadn’t tried to “out Democrats the Democrats” for the past 8 years then maybe they’d be able to fight this with more than 177 House seats and 42 Senate seats. They’ve done this to us as much as any Democrat.

  8. 8. Concerned Citizen

The naked vote buying by Obama needs to be exposed for what it is. At least Rush had the backbone and platform to get this message out.

There is one thing even Rush hasn’t talked about yet. Obama is spending like someone with a brand new checking account. As long as you have checks, you can keep writing them…right??

There will be a rude awakening in about six months when Obama finds out that the bond market calls the tune. Someone has to actually show up to GIVE HIM THE MONEY and buy U.S. treasuries. According the Fed’s OMC announcement yesterday, they expect to keep interest rates at 0-0.25% for the next couple of years. I’m not sure investors will entrust their money to Obama, a certified socialist, where he will promise to return their capital with no interest. The alternatives are gold and other corporate and government debt (Swiss, Japanese, etc.).

The fastest way to stop this march to socialism is to boycott the treasury auctions.

    Dutch:

    You write:

“I am happy to see the Republicans are united in their opposition to this pork filled so-called stimulus package.”

The problem is that the Republicans spent 6 of GWB’s 8 years voting for spending initiatives (prescription drug benefit, No Child Left Behind etc.)that nearly DOUBLED the U.S. national debt. Now at a time when lay-offs are increasing daily; the credit markets are still frigid, if not frozen; and most economists across the spectrum agree on the need for a stimulus matching at least the basic outline of Obama’s plan, these same Republicans have apparently re-discovered their fiscal conservative bona-fides. Either they’ve undergone the political equivalent of a mass death-bed conversion or they’re just hypocrites engaging in partisan politics. My guess is the latter and my hope is that this behavior will further decimate them in the 2010 congressional elections. Speaking as a recovering Republican, I know I’m going to make them pay at the polling booth next year.

  10. 10. Hank

This ludicrous suggestion of rush’s to make 46% of the stimulus package tax cuts because of 46% republican voters must be a joke. The GOP never gave any thought whatsoever to appeasing or looking out for the 48% that voted for Kerry or Gore. They used their power tyrannically and completely ineptly, and now they are going to pay the price. To paraphrase our president, “we won.” You cannot exist for 8 years on a purely partisan, one party agenda, and then suddenly expect to be respected and listened to when you are the minority in government. The double standard is ridiculous.

Only 16% of the stimulus is being spent on infrastructure, with 33% going to tax cuts.

Pork is a universal problem, with the highest pork-receiving states being almost unanimously republican. The gross hypocrisy exhibited by people like Rush and Hannity is a laughing-stock to not just reasonable sane Americans, but the entire world.

  11. 11. Austin

Obama is the Invisible Man – an empty suit full of hot air.

  12. 12. Rich Berger

Based on archer34 and Hank’s comments, we are on the right track. The journey of four years begins with a single vote.

  13. 13. RJ

Patronage, that’s one great way to describe this bill. Corruption is the other. How else do you explain billions of dollars to ACORN? “Thanks for trying to help us out by cheating in this election, guys. Turns out we didn’t need it after all – but we might next time! Let’s make sure you have plenty of cash on hand to make that happen.”

  14. 14. Agoraphobic Plumber

“They used their power tyrannically and completely ineptly, and now they are going to pay the price.”

If only it was only the Repubs that would be paying the price. Unfortunately, that’s not accurate. It will be me, and my children, and you and yours that will be paying the price for this derailment-in-progress.

“Pork is a universal problem, with the highest pork-receiving states being almost unanimously republican.”

It would help more if you quit playing partisan politics and offer constructive suggestions. I’m not a Dem or a Repub, and after this I will never be either one. They’re both the ones that brought this on us, and I don’t want to associate with anybody involved in bringing down this great nation.

At least, as long as I still have the right of freedom of association. The way the Dems are talking lately that may not last either, if they stay in power past the next election.

  15. 15. Mwalimu Daudi

Pork is a universal problem, with the highest pork-receiving states being almost unanimously republican.

Wow! Even under the current Democrat administration? More that Robert Byrd? Who wudda thunk it? Of course, you cite no evidence to back up that statement….

But I forgot. When Democrats do it, then it’s not pork at all. Kind of like Bill Clinton’s right to rape any woman he chooses.

  16. 16. RJ

Sean, Archer – yes, you’re right that Republicans paved the path to this day. So our solution is to put something even worse into place? Let’s applaud congressional Republicans for finally coming to their senses and realizing what had to be done. If you think that choice was automatic, think again. The Democrats would have loved to have their support as cover, and some very nice deals could have been made on the part of individual Republicans to lard up their particular districts. They abstained, and I applaud it. Partisan motives or not, they did the right thing, and that matters. Or did you think the guys on the other side of the aisle were pushing this bill not due to partisan politics, and only because they think it will help the economy? Please.

  17. 17. Bridget

What has happened to American independent spirit from the days of the Boston Tea Party? When are the citizens of this country going to say, “ENOUGH”, “STOP” to the pickpocket mentality of our government? Senators approve a tax cheat to enforce tax collections so that we working Americans can pay for ACORN, illegals, nonworkers, and every other leftist ideology included in the “Porkulus Bill”.

  18. 18. Mike_K

I agree with the comments that the Republicans blew their chance for a long term majority and Bush led the party down the “kinder, gentler” path to perdition. I don’t know how “Hank” is going laugh when the inflation rate is 10% in 2011 but maybe he believes in burning the house down to get those rats.

  19. 19. Democrat Dictators

I don’t have to listen to Rush or anybody else to see what is going on. The Democrat “leadership” used their majority over the last two years in order to destroy the country. This newest crisis (out of the Hitler playbook) was due to the sub prime crisis THAT THEY AND THEIR CORRUPT PALS CREATED! The only thing being stimulated is a plunge into SOCIALISM! It’s good that somebody out there is talking about it since most of the media has some sort of incestral relationship with Obama and his treacherous agenda.

  20. 20. gordo

Just listen to all of us. Rep. did this, Dems did that etc etc. Rush is an idiot, Obama a fool.
At the end of the day these people have theirs and we are quickly loosing what little we have left.

Claim all your deductions, spend only what you have to and watch.

Everyone, ( experts ) say that the Bush stimulus package did not work due to the lack of purchasing of goods. However, those of us that paid dwn the credit card, opened an IRA, 529 etc etc. put money back into the economy. It is not our fault that the banks and gov’t were not responsible with the injection of funds.

    The fiddler is warming up.

  21. 21. Mark in Dayton

Rush is saying that the so-called stimulus bill is mere pork (borrow and spend- indenture the children from the Baby Boom generation: porkulus). A great deal of the pork is designed to help Obama garner re-election in 2012 and to cover Dem ass in 2010. No one to date has offered a viable refutation of his theory. Have any O-bots that come here read the bill? No, you have not. You O-bots are not alone. Nobody from the MSM or 99% of the Dems who voted for passage of same in the House have read the Bill.

I undestand that dissent is “no longer patriotic” since the day Barry and Michelle were elected.

I merely wish you a**hole liberals would just be consistant. But that is asking for too much, isn’t it?

  22. 22. Pat J

The only thing I want Rush Limpballs to tell me is where to score some oxycotin through his housekeeper.

  23. 23. wormburner

As far as the stimulus package goes, only time will tell. I don’t hate the idea, nor am I happy about it (even though it will directly effect funding in my line of work). I will, however, wait for the results to come in before I condemn the bold action.

As far as Rush goes, all listeners should take him with a large grain of salt (as any thinking person should do with any media or entertainment outlet). Anybody who takes him totally seriously must live in a little world of loathing, absolutism, and conspiracy theories. I listen to Rush, but always consider that he is an entertainer. He needs listenership to survive, and boring radio doesn’t preclude good listenership.

When I hear Rush say crazy things like,”Its cold out today, aren’t the Global Warming (scientists) looking like crackpots”, or that he “hopes Obama fails”, I chose to see for what it is: entertainment.

As far as those comments, I prefer the opinions of those who have gained hard earned
scientific credility on atmospheric change. I don’t think Rush actually believes that a cold day is proof against a now universally accepted theory. I also don’t believe Rush would like to see America continue to spiral downward just so he can see Obama fail.

Rush is who he is. Just as Bill Maher is who he is. I agree with little either say or do. Do both have entertainment value? Yes. Are both playing the game for the same reward? yes.

  24. 24. Bob

Instead of the “line by line” budget review and cutting that he promised, President Obama will be signing the largest spending bill Congress ever assembled – something for everyone. But no one can say it will create any jobs. Even H says that it will “create or save” millions of jobs. (How, exactly, do you count jobs “saved”?) The Limbaugh business and personal tax cut program would initially reduce government revenue but it would certainly create hope and jobs. The idea of some posters (the Republicans spent too much when they were in power – now we’ll show them by spending even more) borders on the ridiculous. Two wrongs don’t make a right, and the American taxpayers, our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren will be paying for the massive stimulus (“porkulus”) bill.

  25. 25. Steve

Hank, that’s a tired lie. Maybe you’d like to point to a factual chart that bears out your assertion. Per capita government spending goes overwhelmingly to democratic voting States, doesn’t it? And the republican states get the least. Per capita.

  26. 26. Larry J

This ludicrous suggestion of rush’s to make 46% of the stimulus package tax cuts because of 46% republican voters must be a joke. The GOP never gave any thought whatsoever to appeasing or looking out for the 48% that voted for Kerry or Gore. To paraphrase our president, “we won.” You cannot exist for 8 years on a purely partisan, one party agenda, and then suddenly expect to be respected and listened to when you are the minority in government. The double standard is ridiculous.

Yes, your double standard is ridiculous. During the first two years of Bush’s administration, the Senate was so close that Democrats had a huge influence on legislation. Furthermore, during the last two years, Democrats controlled both the House and the Senate. The “one party agenda” that you mentioned didn’t happen. Also, the Democrats insisted on “being listened to when you are the minority”, but now you insist Republicans sit down and shut up. Sorry, we were told for 8 years that dissent is the highest form of patriotism. If it was true then, it must also be true now.

  27. 27. Joe Bison

Obama is politics African independence style.
A messiah comes in on the wave of wildly
    unrealistic promises and expectations.

In the face of reality the ruler has to
take from his opponents and give to his
supporters in order to maintain power.

Hopefully the latter stages of the cycle
don’t take place. They are violence and
    extreme voter intimidation. Some were
already predicting violence if Obama lost.

  28. 28. Brian

Here is talk-show host Rush Limbaugh proposing a stimulus compromise to President Obama… Well, if you read this, I am not sure you can really call this “proposal” a compromise. It reads more like a side-by-side experiment using the American economy. Somehow Rush elevates himself to equal status with the newly elected President of the US… I remember Gingrich trying this after the 1994 elections with no success against Clinton.

Anyway, so Rush determines to prorate stimulus philosophies on a prorated basis, conforming to the vote tallies from last November’s election. Liberals get 54% (of $900B) and Conservatives get the rest.

Then Rush goes on to explain that of his hypothetical $414B, he proposes to cut US Corporate Tax rates in half (to 17.5%) and suspend capital gains taxes for at least a year. I have no idea whether these two things would tally to $414B, but let’s leave that for a second.

The fact is that (in the aggregate) almost all US jobs created in the last decade are new hires by small business. The majority of small business would not be helped by either of Rush’s proposals. Many are organized as Subchapter S corps or LLC’s (Limited Liability Corps) – and the really small are simple proprietatorships. None of these would be helped directly by cutting the corporate tax rates as they are taxed at the individual rates. Now – for those who sell to large corporations – they would be helped by this indirectly by increased buying activity. As for cutting capital gains tax rates – this would directly help small businesspeople who are selling, not hiring!

The Reagan Revolution taught us that the important number in government is not necessarily tax rates, but receipts. Of course, the media promotes class warfare by reporting the rates. But the fact is that every dollar not claimed by a government ends up as disposable in this economy. President Reagan cut individual tax rates, accelerated depreciation (capital spending by corporations) and helped small businesspeople by insitituting the IRA / and SEP programs to allow them to save for retirements in a tax deferred program in the fashion enjoyed then only by corporate and government employees.

While I would love to see these tried and true methods employed now, the fact is that Obama is correct – he won and therefore in our country we assume people voted for him and his program. Therefore, just as Reagan and FDR – he gets to try his – and his friendly Congress and media will sell it. I wish he’d do a bit more study and true consideration before making this law, but this is a country where majority rules. And the majority voted for Obama – or at least against McCain and the Republicans.

Personally, I would think things might get better if the government stayed out of it rather than borrow $900 billion to spend on more pork, but hey, that’s me.

  29. 29. flashman

Obama is not offering a tax cut. He’s planning to send $500 checks to everyone not making over $ ? (pick a number). this is not stimulative. Only cuts on the marginal rates impact economic behavior. Democrats never learn, which is OK, since their sycophantic true believers don’t understand fiscal policy anyway.

  30. 30. kwo

“Just imagine checking out the news tomorrow and discovering that the government–what used to be called, without irony, your government–had decided to try something really bold for a change: instead of taking more of your money, they were actually going to let you keep a bit more.”

Borrowing a trillion dollars to cut taxes does NOT “let you keep a bit more.” That creates an even greater tax obligation for future generations. More importantly, it sidesteps the real issue, which is that the U.S. consumes more than it produces. If you want taxpayers to keep (and spend) more of their own money, the federal govt. must spend much less.

  31. Quick hitter: Hank – dead wrong. The GOP rewrote the Senatorial allotments in 01 to oblige the Dems. Bush renominated pending federal judges of Clintons – unprecedented. NCLB was a Democratic initiative. Medicare D was a terrible tactical retreat from a more comprehensive Democratic program. He included them in everything, all along. Too much. The idea from Democrats that he was tyrannical and cut them out stems from their own narcissicism, and expectation that their way was the only way. Your “feeling” or “impression” is meaningless.

To the point: Obama’s statement was truer than he knew. “You can’t listen to Rush Limbaugh and get (my) things done.”

  32. 32. E. R. H.

Wow, this is a whole new level of stupid. Recessions end on their own if left alone? Hmmm, I suppose there’s evidence for that in the last 100 years.

  33. 33. Jarhead91

Hank – The Republicans controlled Congress from 2002 to 2006.

“now they are going to pay the price.” So our kids and grandkids because this spending orgy won’t be paid off in our lifetimes.

  34. 34. Morgan

Hank you are right on pork, wrong on Rush. He’s not cheerleading any spending, he is constantly pointing out our (Republican) overspending.

  35. 35. rrr

Hank, just keep telling yourself all of that as the world crashes around you. I wonder who you’ll be blaming next year at this time? It won’t be your messiah, no doubt.

  36. 36. Air2air

Hank, you don’t like Rush’s idea because it has consequences. We all know the liberal opinion of “consequences”; they were something Republicans must have invented just to make life crappy.

If the Dem proposal is so great, why don’t you want Dems to live under it exclusively? You’re asking all of us live under it as Americans.

I’ve always shared Rush’s idea. Everybody should have to live under the economic system that they vote for. This way, at least half of the country will have prosperity, and the other half will have STD programs.

  37. 37. Meremortal

The debt increase bill just passed by the House is another transfer of wealth from the young to the old. The bill will come due, and where will the government go next time to pay that bill? We are kicking the can into a cul-de-sac. Tax revenue from the private sector won’t be sufficient, the private sector shrinks as government grows. You can only work full time in one sector or the other, it’s a zero sum game. Also, the bill contains “buy American” provisions that break our current trade agreements. These apply mainly to steel and other metal trading. The agreements state that trading partners injured by such beakage may impose tarrifs and other punishments against the USA. The mistakes that led to the Great Depression are being repeated. Prepare for a long period of stagflation and high unemployment in the private sector. If you work for the government, you will be fine for now, but not long-term. Government jobs don’t manufacture products or produce things of value. They produce paper and future retirement and medical coverage obligations. The only way to pay government salaries and benefits is through taxation. If you want to see where we are headed, check the rate of economic growth and unemployment in Europe over the last twenty years. We are entering the European model.

  38. 38. mthrndr

Hank, you liberal slut. Let’s examine the “Last 8 years” (two of which, including the current economic collapse, presided over by Dem majorities).

Where did the budget get inflated? where did Bush actually overspend?

    http://www.gpoaccess.gov/usbudget/fy09/pdf/hist.pdf

Did you know that in 2003, 2004 and 2005 we taxed the American People less, spent less per GDP since- well, you have to go all the way back to 1949.
You know, when Tom Delay was asked about the deficit and he rteplied where else are we going to cut – he was talking political capital.
Look at those tables for three solid years receipts to the government declined and GDP growth despite
    -9/11
    -Katrina
    -4 Hurricanes in Florida
    -Rita
    -Homeland Security
-Hiring 25,000 Border Guards, Customs agents
    -Rebuilding the Military
    -Oh yeah and 2 wars
-And the 150 dollar a barrel run up in oil
    -And the housing collaspe
And yet…the REPUBLICANS were completely inept.

Now, get off this board and go bow down to Charles Rangel, Chris Dodd, Franklin Raines, Nancy Pelosi, and the other Robber Barons of congress and the Dem party.

  39. 39. Richard

1% Wackos? What do you think Obama & McCain are?

  40. 40. No taxation without representation

It’s about time that the Republican folks took a stand but too late. They’ve gone along and played along as if reason and common sense were even possible when dealing with the left.

It isn’t “pork” but the whole damn hog! This will make slaves of our children, grand kids and theirs as well.

Didn’t we fight a war for our independence? No taxation without representation. These days it might be time to say no representation without taxation as well since less than half the folks in the country pay taxes now. It seems that our politicians think they can do anything and we’ll just sit back and allow them to continue selling us out.

Anybody want to get out the tar and feathers?

  41. 41. Dotar Sojat

I’d be satisfied if we could just stop ACORN from getting any (more) of our tax dollars.

  42. 42. No taxation without representation

    Hank:

What is ludicrous would be to say people are getting TAX CUTS when they don’t pay taxes in the first place.

BTW, Pelosi is from the state that isn’t paying back people on their tax refunds!!!

AND, if you look at the voting records, you’ll see that the GOP did work with the dumb-ass dems. That was the problem, they attempted to be fair and went along with the out of control spending bills. You do know that spending bills come from congress and not the president, right?

  43. 43. willem

What Democrats? They’ve been kicked out of their own party. What we have masquerading in their place are “Alinskycrats.” That’s the only mistake Limbaugh’s making. He needs to start referring to them as Alinskycrats … these Progressives who practice selective victimology as a secular religion. Got that? Democratic Socialism is a secular religious movement that worships itself; we are looking at a re-emerging hybrid form of transnational syndicalism working to establish a form of international feudalism ruled by a presiding elite. Can’t you smell the stench of Oligarchy coming from The Hill?

We need a federal grand jury to investigate the Congressional Progressive Caucus and its members for Treason and Sedition regarding their role in the willful sabotage of our mortgage and financial industries.

  44. 44. ReConUSMC

{Think about what Rush said Brilliantly } .

Your Boss does not give your Pay Check to a Third Cousin (The Federal Government ) in this case who both have a History of spending money like a Drunk on years of long Binges .
You given that money (directly ) by Your Boss without several ”middle men ” Bureaucratic , House and Senate hearing , Departments of Goverement and countless

Levels of Government “”SPEND IT “”and do things with it quickly like pay off credit card debt the largest it has ever been in America history .
And “”Obviously “Corp.s Hire new People and build up their business with new purchases , advertising , new products and new building as well going into our economy instantly .
Money for ” Infrastructure ” will take 2-3 Years to Trickle though the system and we tax payers are left with our Greatest debt ever , even greater than after WW 2 .
In your Third Cousin case and the Federal Government as well you can only “Hope ” that eventually a little comes your way after it has be redistributed for their own needs , friends , Green Projects and Studies , Colleges , Art projects , School Loans , Lobbyist and of course Votes in the end game .
This is all about America being Nationalized finally and becoming a Socialist Goverement ”controlled ‘ Country just like all of Western Europe . No thanks !!!!!
You would think given all of the Politicians and this President in Washington DC and his economist handlers
and since Obama knows nothing about Economics they would listen to Rush .
Never because his plan is “Capitalist not Socialist “!
This is a scam ….. This is about moving to Socialism more than it is about Fixing America’s economy since it fix is permanent Socialism .
Those Liberals and Socialist and President in charge well known .
My only hope is Americans will understand this Socialist Hoax and Republicans politicians in Washington DC will fight this Scam .

  45. 45. kynna

Rush is right. I wish the GOP *would* listen to him. They are nearly as compromised by the lure of Washington aristocracy as the dems.

I agree that Republicans are as much to blame for us having to suffer the Obama/Pelosi/Reid demolition of our economy as the dems.

  46. 46. Self-hating Boomer

Thomas Sowell said essentially the same thing. And he said something to the effect that the donkey bailout is like sending a letter in the mail to the fire department, notifying them that your house is on fire.

Sure was a nice house while it lasted.

  47. 47. ReConUSMC

This is exactly like your Mother sending to the store with a $ 20.00 bill to get a Loaf of Bread and are told bluntly to bring back the change plus you get the Bread that is on sale since She has a tight budget .
You bring back $ 20.00 worth of “Goodies “and don’t bring back the Bread the reason your Mother sent to the store in the first place .
He says but Mommy I wanted to make my friends happy at school tomorrow with all the Goodies then maybe they will like me more .
In the real world your Grounded , sent to room without diner and your Mother gets the Bread her self the next time .
Since she can’t trust you with her “Hard earned money ……… America !!!!!!!!
    Examples you ask ?

Hill Republican: Stimulus aids illegal immigrants

WASHINGTON: A top Republican congressional aide says the $800 billion-plus economic stimulus measure could steer government checks to illegal immigrants.

Republican officials are concerned that the Democratic-written legislation makes people who came to the United States illegally eligible for tax credits of $500 per worker and $1,000 per couple.

A House-passed version of the bill and one making its way through the Senate both disqualify nonresident aliens from receiving the credits. But neither requires a worker to have a Social Security number to get the credits.

An economic aid measure enacted in February 2008 that sent rebates to most wage earners required that people have valid Social Security numbers in order to get checks.

Obama Giving ACORN $5.2 Billion in Stimulus Funds
A rising chorus of GOP leaders are protesting that the blockbuster Democratic stimulus package would provide up to a whopping $5.2 billion for ACORN, the left-leaning nonprofit group under federal investigation for massive voter fraud.

Economic-stimulus bills allot millions for STD prevention

The two sides of Capitol Hill appear to be engaging in a bidding war to see who can put more money toward the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases in its version of the economic stimulus bill.

The House included $335 million in its package. But the Senate, not to be outdone, provided $400 million in STD spending in its bill.

Hank, The arrogance exhibited by your side of the aisle is disgusting. Coming out and stating “we won” however is the pinnacle of arrogance and partisanship. In the end that is all your kind cares about. Congratulations you elected a “messiah” whose lived up to his resume.

The best part of all of this is that for the past 8 years pigs like you have been arrogant, condescending, jack-asses. Now it is your turn to take it. And you can’t because the reality is that pigs like you are neither reasonable nor sane nor American. You’re porcine little cowards. Big at the mouth and small at the backbone.

When your side includes Rangel, Pelosi, Reid, olbermann, mathews, Blagojevich, Schumer, Clinton, Obama, Dodd, Gore, Edwards, Murtha, et. al. you should exhibit more discretion when tossing about hypocrisy and double standards.

BTW whatever happened to the massive infrastructure bill passed in 2005?

  49. 49. Chaz

“Not going to happen. Obama has learned politics Chicago style. Obama is developing his own patronage army. How many billions will go to schools? His way of thanking the NEA. Increase food stamps – more locked in votes. The list is too long for this comment. I am happy to see the Republicans are united in their opposition to this pork filled so-called stimulus package.”

  51. 51. Edit

#10 Hank “The GOP never gave any thought whatsoever to appeasing or looking out for the 48% that voted for Kerry or Gore.”

Sen. Kennedy co-wrote the No Child Left Behind bill. The prescription drug benefit plan ended up costing as much as Gore wanted and was applied to all old folks and not just the poor and truly needy as Bush promised.

Yes, Bush and many Republicans were unable to control their liberal urges, i.e. spending, McCain-Feingold, illegal immigration. But there was a solid core, let’s call them the Jeff Session Republicans, that tried to hold the line.

As I see it, the main problem liberals have with Bush is that he won the war in Iraq, and that is something they will never forgive.

  52. Hank,
“You cannot exist for 8 years on a purely partisan, one party agenda”

Yes, you can. The Democrats did exactly that the past 8 years.

Wait for this little bomb to work its way through the economy. Bobby Mugabe is doing it better- bread there is up to Z$35,000,000 a loaf- but Dubya and The One have us on the way.

And everyone is celebrating the end of free market capitalism. We are in deep, deep kim chee.

  55. 55. formwiz

One thing the Demos need to remember is that FDR and LBJ thought their “stimulus packages” would give them generational majorities. Roosevelt’s court packing scheme was overthrown by people voting Republican in 1936 and it only took 15 years for Reagan to recapture the House and gain a philosophical majority in the Senate.

If Rush is right and the recovery is six years (assuming Porkulus doesn’t worsen the recession – and it probably will), Obambi and the rest may be digging a hole for themselves as much as for the opposition.

Is it too late to dump Barry Dunham and put Rush in the White House?

Barry got elected mainly due to 24/7 media worship and adulation, when in reality, he’s just a leftist lawyer with very, very little experience in anything.

Congrats, media limp-wrists, you stuck us with the Magic Negro.

  57. 57. Paul B

“Then we compare. We see which stimulus actually works. This is bipartisanship! It would satisfy the American people’s wishes, as polls currently note; and it would also serve as a measurable test as to which approach best stimulates job growth.”

If both “stimulus” approaches are tried simultaneously, how exactly could it be determined that one worked better than the other? Say, for example, GM get’s money from the government to upgrade government vehicles to hybrids, and they also get a corporate tax break, how would you be able to tell which approach helped them create jobs? I don’t think Rush knows how experiment design works.

  58. 58. JP

Gee, unemployment expected to reach 10% nationally later this year and liberals on the left and liberals on the right, continue to preach OPEN BORDERS, MASS IMMIGRATION, “GUEST WORKERS”, “GUEST STUDENTS”, ETC.

Makes good sense, eh? Soon, half of Mexico will be here….then half of India, half of China and half of the Mohammedan world.

    Buh-bye USA….

If tax cuts stimulate the economy and creates jobs then how come the economy is worse and we have a net job loss only a few years after Bush signed the biggest tax cuts in history?

  60. 60. Michael B

I’ve (almost) never listened to Limbaugh in the past. But am now inclined to tune in on occasion.

  61. In a narcissist’s mind there is no room for competition when you only recognize your own importance!

In the Age of Pretending and the new cult of personality mentality there is only one king. http://thenma.org/blogs//index.php/libertyforusa/2009/01/27/the-age-of-pretending

He shuts out and off any critic (as many members of the press have decided to accept).

If Rush’s ego is huge, it is because he earned it through accomplishment and putting reality into perspective for people that do not accept an altered view submitted by liberals, and he has earned it.

Obama’s ego has carried him far, but we all know what he has, has been granted to him rather than earned.

Narcissists cannot help but attack others that might dull their own shine.

Sean Hannity, Sara Palin also were frequently and personally named by Obama both with hugely popular followings.

He can’t let this stand! He is the American idol, the one and only!

  62. 62. Andrew

Rush is arrogant???? Has anyone listened to Nancy, Harry, and Barry? “We won.” We will control your lives the way we see fit – no compromises – only top down elitist, social engineering for you all. Caviar, limos, private jets, million dollar homes for us. The politburo never suffered the way the Soviet people did and here we go again.

  63. 63. Republican Disasters

Rush Limbaugh is grotesque, vile and repulsive inside and out.

The perfect spokesperson for the GOP.

  64. 64. PJ

Saint Patton – “The obvious conclusion is there, right in front of you: if we spend one hundred trillion, we can provide every single worker in the nation with a government job that pays $100k per year.”

Quite true! But of course the US dollar will be trading at about the same value as the Zimbabwe dollar as well! USA will be renamed USSA and our $100k/yr jobs will afford us “McGrassHuts” instead of McMansions.

Archer – “most economists across the spectrum agree on the need for a stimulus matching at least the basic outline of Obama’s plan”
You lie. Cato has an ad of 400 economists opposed to this dreadful porkbarrel deficit boondoggle nonstimulus bill. Economist Feldstein came out and said that while he supports the principle of stimulus, the garbage the Democrats cooked up in Congress is an “$800 billion mistake”. They do NOT agree on the basic outline’ of hundreds of billion in general govt spending increases. Its a massive and utter waste of money. The ‘tax cuts’ are not tax rate cuts at all, but check-in-themail credits that *raise* marginal tax rates. The GOP alternative by Boehner would cost much less and do much more good. If the Congress were bipartisan they would pass that instead of the Democrats dreadful porkfest.

  65. 65. Marc Malone

Everyone here missed the important thing. Obama, in targeting Rush Limbaugh, has just directed his attention at talk radio. Expect talk of the Fairness Doctrine to resurface, despite Obama’s previous denial. He won’t do it himself, but he just sent his coded message to his allies; Green Light.

  66. 66. John Dubya

Actually,,, I’d like to clone Rush 435 times and elect all of them to the House. Another 100 times and send them to the Senate. He’s about the only person I’ve heard lately with his head screwed on straight.

Better yet, can we talk Rush into a political run in 4 years? Teamed up with Sarah Palin they’d be unbeatable.

  67. 67. Laura

Their priorities are in the toilet. As much money is being given to ACORN which of course is non-profit as is being given to Homeland Security. Democrats are now Socialist/Marxist and Republicans have become what Democrats used to be with a few exceptions.

Take a few minutes to call your representative and thank them for their vote. I thank my rep Captain Mark Kirk. Also thanks to the 11 democrats who had the cojines to vote against this travesty.

    Folks, get a clue.

The Dems want the economy to fail so it is ripe for a socialized takeover. Sacailsm doesn’t have a chance with a healthy economy. Never, EVER, will they adopt a plan that works. They couldn’t give a Damn about the current economy. Their “world of tomorrow”, with a one world economy and complete government control of every penny, is their goal. A free market STANDS IN THE WAY! You voted them in, you live with the mess! In two years you will again have a say. Don’t mess it up this time!

Where is this trillion dollars of spending going to come from? Is Obama just going to print more money & cause inflation? Contrary to any stimulus or even welfare “tax cuts” to those who don’t pay any taxes to begin w/, we all will suffer under inflation as even our savings accounts will be worth less.

Obama just wants to ensure his re-election among the illegal immigrants & welfare recepients w/ a immoral ACORN payoff…if Rush of Kimbal can provide the platform to expose the Obama meglomania menace, all the better…or welcome to the United States of the EU/UN dependency.

Obama will never listen to Rush;he’s a Hugo Chavez wannabee, who is attempting to intimidate and marginalize talk radio, and suppress dissent,so that he can socialize the economy.Unfortunately for him, his hamhanded attacks on Rush before a key congresional vote embedded Rush into the debate, giving his views exposure, and will make it harder for Obama to marginalize him.Round 1 to Rush!

  78. 78. MarkJ

    Ms. Attitude,

“Rush comes off as arrogant to me but I think he’s on to something with this. Too bad Queen Pelosi won’t listen.”

Ummm, no. Rush is C.O.N.F.I.D.E.N.T.–there’s a world of difference between arrogance and confidence. You want arrogance? Try Nancy “Family Planning is Economically Stimulating!” Pelosi. You want more arrogance, you say? How about Barack “I Won!” Obama.

Rush is confident because he’s convinced that his plan, based on time-tested principles and historical precedent, will work. Obama, conversely, is arrogant because he already knows his abortion of a stimulus package won’t work…but he’s plowing ahead with it anyway.

    Capisce?

That way we can tell which method works by observeing which sates recover first.

  80. This is just the first in many attempts to discredit, polerize and personalize everything the left hates. I notice that the libs are trying to shut Rush up at the same time they are cying foul about the Peta commercial (Veggie Love) note being aired while our kids are waching the Super Bowl.

Rush has been speaking for me since before Dan’s Bake Sale. And Rush is always right. If you have no sense of humor you probably don’t get his satire, but there is always a point to it. And Rush is first and foremost an American Patriot. You can’t say the same for most of the

What are you worried about anyways you don’t need republican votes to get anything done. If I was Rush I would simply council the Republicans to vote no on any and all Democrat legislation or vote “Present” like President “the Barrack” Hussein Obama did while in the Illinois house did. Suck it up Libs your in the dunk tank and your giving us plenty of ammo to hit the bulls-eye.

  88. 88. musial

The economy is in the worst condition in decades (thank you, George Bush) and our new President and Congress were elected to take strong action. He’s doing that, as are the Democrats. The House Republicans? AWOL: making political speeches, looking to Rush Limbaugh for clues. Rush knows something about losing jobs (he’s good at that), and maybe sexual assaults, but economics: not so much. Without action, more people will lose their jobs and homes. It’s easy to make stuff up (about money for ACORN) or worry about inflation, etc. The real question is: are you going to do nothing? If you’re going to do something, do you have a better plan (and not just more GOP tax cuts for the rich: been there, done that, and it doesn’t work).

  89. 89. Delia

How about we let our economy ‘right itself’ naturally like we should have in the first place? Yes, rip the band-aid off and let’s get the pain over with quick rather than prolonging it.

Nothing is helping. The the supposed ‘little’ people who are going to benefit from this package is a joke. A “few hundred here or there” is NOT going to make an impact. A BIG ZER0bama.

Trust me when I say this. I’m not lying to anyone. I used to be on the Left many years ago. Academic and all. Got to know the activist Left people too. Now, I’m slightly right of center and sometimes I listen to Rush. Believe it or not, he’s very educational, because he covers facts and events you will never hear about from the MSM. Anyway, I digress… I saw and experienced more snobbery and intolerance over on the Left than I can say I’ve seen since crossing over the center to the other side. Yeah, I know, I’m now on The Dark Side and that makes my testimony suspect in some eyes. But, from what I’ve read on this thread alone I can say I will stand on my conviction. The Leftists like to come here and be perfect idiots and rage against Rush. Look, if you don’t like him, ignore him. I ignore people I don’t like. And I’ve never met any conservatives who voiced the opinion that we should shut down media that are dominated by the Left.

“Fairness Doctrine” ???? Perfect Orwellian mangling of language.

  92. 92. ILikeIke

Rush Limbaugh’s half-and-half proposal is a joke. Maybe we could apply it to gay marriage or abortion. Or marijuana.

I can’t believe this guy has such sway in the conservative movement.

  93. 93. kabud

By the way Rush is close to the deal!!

If one looks at the number of republicans in Congress and Senate:

real figure of The Stimulus is very much along the party lines:

The $819 billion plan is composed of:

Tax cuts ($275 billion) Tax cuts by the way are structured differently

    * Tax cuts ($275 billion): Payroll tax cuts ($500 for each individual, $1000 for couples), $2500 tax credit for higher education, $7500 non-repayable tax credit for first time home buyers (for houses bought until July 1st)

    * Education investments ($141.6 billion):
o $79 billion in state fiscal relief to prevent cutbacks to key services, including $39 billion to local school districts and public colleges and universities distributed through existing state and federal formulas, $15 billion to states as bonus grants as a reward for meeting key performance measures, and $25 billion to states for other high priority needs such as public safety and other critical services, which may include education.
o $41 billion to local school districts through Title I ($13 billion), IDEA ($13 billion), a new School Modernization and Repair Program ($14 billion), and the Education Technology program ($1 billion)
o $15.6 billion to increase the Pell Grant by $500.
o $6 billion for higher education modernization.

    * Health care investments ($112.1 billion):
o $87 billion for a temporary increase in the Medicaid matching rate for the states
o $20 billion for health information technology, including electronic medical records to prevent medical mistakes, provide better care to patients and introduce cost-saving efficiencies.
o $4.1 billion to provide for preventative care and to evaluate the most effective healthcare treatments.

    * Welfare/unemployment ($102 billion): $43 billion for unemployment benefits and job training, $39 billion for health insurance and Medicaid, $20 billion for food stamps

    * Infrastructure investments ($90 billion):
    o $31 billion to modernize federal and other public infrastructure with investments that lead to long term energy cost savings;
    o $30 billion for highway construction;
    o $19 billion for clean water, flood control, and environmental restoration investments;
o $10 billion for transit and rail to reduce traffic congestion and gas consumption.

    * Energy investments ($58 billion):
o $32 billion funding for an electric smart grid
o $20 billion for renewable energy tax cuts
    o $6 billion for weatherizing modest-income homes.

  94. 94. Dino

Well SOMEBODY’S listening to the President! I agree with the author. In fact, let’s send this column to all GOP members of Congress. This would be PROGRESS since the Dems STILL don’t recognize business role in growing the economy and the GOP STILL doesn’t have the courage to offer any “spending” program. This is while they all secretly want MORE infrastructure in the bill…See, the President DOES bring out the right attitude of comprimise. Bravo Limbaugh. You’re an official member of Obamamania!

  95. 95. Delia

I just wish there was a young, handsome, hunk of a studly man willing to rant what Rush does and then some. Sorry, but just as I say Michelle O. is seriously fugly, in all fairness I also think Rush is definitely AFMOFR [a face made only for radio]. You can lose weight but you can’t lose ugly. He’s a great ranter but sometimes he annoys the hell out of me and him calling people who want a legit birth cert from Obama deemed “whackos” is an unfair accessment and people who say, who gives an eff about the CERT, he has dual-citizenship via his Father and step father.

By the by… “Barry Sotero” is NOT my president..and therefore I’ll NEVER address him as such.

Get used to it in my posts.

Mr O has already got his wish of wealth redistribution…sort of…more like wealth disappearance.

Rush farts and the wingnuts applaud. Should we be surprised?

Limbaugh offers a typical, simplistic response. Not thoughtful, not constructive – simply silly. The stimulus included a large amount of tax cuts, but Rush proposes to adjust the ratio of spending to cuts based on the popular Presidential vote. There is no rational basis to expect that this would be an improvement. Why not use the ratio of Senators? Or House members?

Rush is a cancer on the right – we will all benefit when the blowhard expires.

Irrelevant. Both RL and BO are on the wrong track. The “right” way or the “left” way for the government to stimulate the economy is predicated on the assumption that the government has the authority to dictate the course of an economy, for better, for worse, or for any purpose.

A new politcal charter needs to replace the Constitution that explicitly denotes at least the following as illegal roles for government:
    1) printing money
    2) taxation
    3) duties
    4) tariffs
    5) regulating medicine
    6) regulating education
    7) regulating morality
    8) regulating economy
    9) regulating religion
    10) regulating armament
    10) generally regulating anything except the initiation or use of force, coercion, or violation by any individual, organization, government, or nation, against any other individual, organization, government, or nation.

Therefore, national defense, roads, medicine, education, arts, science and everything else under the sun, are matters that are to be handled by private, voluntary association, organization, investment, and implementation.

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

    @106 l4u,

Here we have, as I described above, a wingnut applauding Rush, while offering a simplistic response which is not thoughtful or constructive, but just silly.

The provisions intended to have the swiftest impact are the tax cuts, totaling $275 billion, roughly a third of the package.

Rush neutralizes the brains of his dittoheads, and leaves them breathless, unable to articulate a rational response or research their own ‘beliefs’.

Thanks for your example supporting my argument.

According to Wall Street Journal, the Stimulus Entitlement Bill, was written based on the wish list of every Democrat interest Group. Nancy Pelosi and Democats wrote the Bill, ignoring all GOP suggestions, stating they won the election.
This is a partisan bill, with loopholes to pay all who wrote Democrats Campaign checks.
Not to be surprised, Hollywood is covered. Lets businesses like Disney, Speilberg, Geffen, and Lucas immediately write-off 50% of equipment purchases, even when last year ticket sales were higher than year before. (9.63 billion ahead of 9.62 billion.)

Rush’s tax plan is too flawed, naturally. However, I have concerns over the current stimulus and feel that most $$ should be in infrastructure as it will create jobs, we need it AND we will actually physically see (and drive over, etc.) the results.

Now, I wholeheartedly believe that Rush Limbaugh is a d**chebag. That said, wormburner @24 is correct: Limbaugh (and Maher) are first and foremost entertainers. We should always keep that in the backs of our minds when commenting on those who have a talk radio show, a TV show or are mAnn Coulter-types.

    - – - – -
OT about Rush’s drug use vs. Obama’s:

Rush’s occurred *after* his admonishing of drug abusers on his show (and don’t forget his excursion to the Dominican Republic for the little blue pills.. ) ca 2003

Obama’s occurred in college/law school AND this had already been disclosed ca. 1995.

  108. 108. Grover

Show me proof that the ‘stimulus package’ will create millions of lasting jobs. Any bailout that lets the government control the private sector will NOT create jobs. Only a profitable business will create jobs.

“most economists agree (on the stimulus package”

This is only true for Keynesian thinking; supply-siders DO NOT agree.

More government control means more loss of freedom; this is an attack upon our freedom and the Constitution. In fact, it violates the Constitution, which never allowed for a government takeover.

Rush is right. But the ‘Obamamaniacs’ will summarily dismiss Rush’s plan for one main reason: it will show them up.

  109. 109. David S

    @110 Mary Stella,

I read the same editorial, but the bias of the writer was plainly evident. The bill includes a provision to write off capital expenditures using accelerated depreciation. This applies to many industries, not only to Hollywood.

The bill is clearly intended to have a broad and positive impact on the economy, and includes many benefits to Republican causes as well. It should not really be surprising that the Democrats would take this opportunity to fulfill their campaign pledges.

There is no negative impact from the provision, and even posting it here just shows how little you appreciate what this does. It allows the studios, who really do face accelerated obsolescence, to buy more new equipment, which will employ the manufacturing sector as well as transportation sector, with attendant ripple effects.

This is exactly the kind of tax incentive that Republicans have been touting as better than spending. Stimulating the private sector to make some investments.

Really, if you don’t have your own opinion to add, why comments?

    Peace.

Why are you wasting your time on these underground comment threads? You should be syndicated and publishing with MSNBC, Huff-Po, Daily Kos, etc.
Why not get your just rewards by going public with a blog, at least. That way, everybody could reply directly to YOU!

Don’t we already have corporate welfare? And didn’t we have tax breaks for the wealthy? This is another trickle up economics plan for Rush and his fellow compatriots that make over 200 million a year.
The average person will never, never, see that money circulate in their hands-unles they shine his shoes!

  113. 113. Brad A Varius

“Porkulus”– the new stimulation plan that allows banks with money to aquire banks without money, because they get more from the government.

“Crediculus” — a bailout plan the size of “Porkulus” that actually goes towards releasing the credit.

  114. 114. Rubicon

Regardless of political party affiliation, the stimulus package is a bad move. Blind & excessive spending is simply not the way to recovery. Yes we need to spend, but only as much as is needed & only so long as it is needed. How many of these programs will become permanent parts of the bureaucracy?
Tax cuts go directly to those who spend, regardless of their income or net worth.
Rush’s plan may sound dumb, but if one examines its effects, it would probably work.
Defending money going to ACORN is impossible. It is a political activist group who pushed for bad loans. The credit worthiness of those loans & the portfolio’s sold, caused much of this crisis. To deny that is to show partisanship. No matter which party failed to vote for good legislation, the end result was profligate spending when we should have not been spending. Bush failed on that. He failed on much. He was NOT a conservative, though he tried to portray himself as one.
The issue is not conservative versus liberal.
Both ends of that are radical & ridiculous. Both push radical policies that marginalize major sections of the populace. We need to think this through.
Large government is not the solution. More than half the public cannot work for the government & America have a gross domestic product at all. We need to produce something whether its commercial, retail, industrial, or whatever. No product, no economy.
Service industry really cannot sustain an economy. It can help, but only so far.
And like it or not, we cannot have an underground workforce. Either bring it out in the open or eliminate it. Do one or the other, but do it! Make citizenship difficult to obtain. Make those who came in illegally do it the hard way. Don’t make fool’s of those who obeyed the law & did it the right way. BUT, don’t just write off those who could be part of the solution. Many were duped into coming here by greedy corporations.
Think about Rush’s plan. It actually, although even I was astonished, has merit. Its actually better than what Congress plans.
BTW, shutting Rush up is as unAmerican as anything politicians could do. If they can shut up Rush, they can shut up anyone who happens to disagree. When & where does that bit of totalitarianism stop? You may not like what he has to say, but then again, he may not like what YOU have to say!
    Live & let live!

Look at the department stores after the holidays, the return lines are endless, if ones own family can spend money on items unwanted by our family members, what makes the government think we want them to spend our money on all these pet projects?
Just give us our own money back- give the guy that created jobs his money back first-not last!
Face to face debate with Rush and Obama…otherwise Obama should zip it!

The fringe Republicans dream ticket: Limbo and Palin . . .

  117. Rush is brilliant. Period. The mainsrtream media are OBAMA ACTIVISTS, as commentator Bernie Goldberg has stated… hence the right requires people like Rush, Sean, Mark, Laura to counter the socialist, Marxist-Maoist trained president.

However, BHO wishes to surpass FDR in his Greater Newer Deal to save the world.

  118. 118. Geraden

Rush arrogant? And the total disregard of the American people by the DIMocrats would be considered what? He is right on with this one, as he usually is on most things.

  119. 119. Valerie

I, too was surprised that Rush had a serious proposal, and I sent a copy to my Congresscritters, Democrats, every one.

  120. 120. Jack Meehoffer

All that we on the Left have to do to marginalize the GOP is to make Limbaugh,Hannity,Coulter and other like minded zealots the face of their party and watch most Americans run away from them. You Righties had your chance these last 8 years and look at the mess you created, step aside and let the adults take over and stop hoping America fails(like the fat tard you know who I’m talking about).

  121. 121. jharp

Rush’s proposal is idiotic and would only appeal to fools.

Do ya suppose since the gay marriage prop 8 was defeated by a similar percentage that 46% of gay people can marry?

The faster the GOP distances themselves from the racist, three time divorced, druggie the faster they have a chance to become mainstream again. Oh, and shut up about religion too. It has no place in politics. Our founders were quite clear about it.

  122. 122. jharp

“Mr. Limbaugh is a man the left just loves to hate… …mostly because he is so successful.”

Not at all true. Lefties like lots of folk who are extraordinarily successful. That has nothing to do with it.

What the left despises about Limbo is the falsehoods, misleading statements, racism, hypocrisy, and most of all the damage he has done to our country.

And I don’t hate anybody. Though I do find him repulsive.

  123. 123. ACJ

I am a moderate to conservative democrat. The only thing that separates me from a republican is the need to hunt squirrels with an AK47, and that I also I believe women have the right to choose.
The liberals that Rush speaks of are a minority or even an imaginary group of people that greasers or hicks love to beat up on.
Rush can take the subject of tainted Chinese milk, and make it some liberal commie pinko gay person’s fault in Vermont. He will twist the truth into such a pile of jargon you have to wonder where it will result with final insult. And by the time he finishes his speech, you have run the gamut of ridiculousness on the subject; that the main point of his argument is still the same-liberals will ruin America.
My neighbor is a farmer, and he listens to Rush while he spreads manure on his fields- If you’ve always wanted smella radio experience, well there you have it.

  124. I love Rush; He brings out the best in the Retardocrats.

  125. 125. David S

    Was Rush not paying attention?

Did he not notice that we tried lowering taxes to stimulate the economy, and ended up with a massive investment bubble, unsupported by fundamental growth in jobs and incomes?

Why should we continue a policy that has just proven itself a massive failure?

You should only listen to Rush if you need a good laugh, or some bad politics.

    Peace.

  126. 126. sambo hux

Why didn’t anybody suggest this by-vote approach before? Could it be that you didn’t care what the other side wanted? I think that might be it.

As for shutting up Rush, well, in the words of Bill O’Reilly, “Sometimes we have to sacrifice our civil liberties to protect ourselves.”

or if you prefer . . . Abe Lincoln, blah, habeous corpus, blah, blah, blah, . . . FDR, blah, news reports, blah

Which is it, folks? You can’t have it both ways.

  127. 127. David S

I would be curious to see what the Federal budget breakdown would be if taxpayers determined the specific program(s) to apply their taxes to.

Might be an improvement, might not, but would be a fun experiment. Perhaps break the budget into a few broad categories, and get a percentage breakdown to compare with current outlays.

    Peace.

jharp : You, like most leftists, are wrong on the religion issue, as in most historical matters.

Our founders were very religious people. The primary reason they came to America was to flee the oppression of the Church of England. What they declared was the separation of CHURCH and state. They were also highly literate. If they had meant “religion” they would have said “religion”,

They wanted no part of official religious organizations, like the Catholic Church, or the Church of England, or a potential “Church of the United Sates”, where, without being elected, Bishops were automatically members of the Senate, or a Cardinal was a de facto Prime Minster, had direct access to the President and might, like Cardinal Richeleau, take over the rule of the country. They did not want Sharia Law or its Christian equivalent.

It never even occurred to the Founders that religion would not be an important factor in a citizen’s vote. And they would be extremely intolerant of the Muslim’s belief in the rule of Islam.

  129. 129. Barry

The ‘stimulus package’ is just the Democrats finally getting their hands on the US Treasury with no one to stop them. To the victor go the spoils.

And Obama will turn the US Govt into Chicago-style govt, writ large. Graft, favors, buying votes, muscling out opposition, silencing critics.

  130. 130. Ian Thorpe

I can understand why the Prez fears Rush. The man is an incredibly talented broadcaster. Though I do not subscribe to his politics, to be as well informed on current affairs as he is, to be able to organise his thoughts so quickly and speak coherently on whatever subject is thrown at him would make Rush a formidable opponent for anybody.

Obama’s much acclaimed oratorial skill however is very much a myth. From here in Britain I did not see a lot of the election campaign but Obama’s public speaking is only inspiring in the same way as that of a motivational speaker. He has learned his technique well from a good drama teacher, he stands on his mark and says his words as someone once said when commenting on John Wayne’s acting ability, but Obama’s speeches are prewritten banalities read from an autocue. There is no spontenaity.

I saw Obama one in the election coverage trying to react to a question he had not been briefed on. For at least 20 seconds (almost eternity in a television interview) he sat looking at the camera with his mouth flapping open and closed like a codfish lying on the deck of a trawler.

Even an occasional radio performer like myself knows you just cannot afford to be caught like that.

  131. 131. Apostle of love

Rush Limbaugh is the corporate power structure’s explicit voice of hate and greed. He glorifies these things. This is different from the subtle corporate propaganda of the New York Times and other “liberal” media outlets. They attempt to provide the illusion of “balance” while censoring any information that might imply the pigs at the top should share.

  132. 132. ACJ

Lets not have Alzheimer’s people, Obama was left with eight solid years of pachyderm excrement. And the economic stimulous package was another Bush idea that was just as drastic of a decision as the Iraq war. Give the democrats a few months, and there will be a different idea, an original idea.
Rush will always have a place in the hearts of people that hate, have disregard, and less than the truth to munch on.

  133. 133. Jeff

Here is a better idea in the same vein as Limbaugh’s. How about cutting taxes for the states that went for McCain while commensurately cutting federal investment and services in those states and slightly raising taxes in the states that voted for Obama and spending the stimulus money there? That way individuals and corporations can then choose where to domicile.
