7 Iranian Hackers Charged with Cyberattacks on U.S. Banks

The U.S. Department of Justice has charged seven hackers with conducting massive cyberattacks on dozens of banks in the United States as well as a small dam outside New York City. Law enforcement officials say the hackers have been linked to the Iranian government and disrupted the U.S. financial system. This is part of an ongoing effort to cripple vital American interests. Bank of America, Nasdaq and the New York Stock Exchange were targeted. Attorney General Loretta Lynch said,
“The attacks were relentless, systematic and widespread. They threatened our economic well-being and our ability to compete fairly in the global marketplace, both of which are directly linked to our national security.”
