Dishonor and War
I wonder what the Atrocities Board would say about the dreadful betrayal of freedom in China. Only kidding. This Orwellian institution is surely designed to deal only with old horrors; you know, those during the dark ages of Bushitlercheney. Or even in the days of Obama’s bête blanche, Bill Clinton, about whom the flagrantly hypocritical Samantha Power raged so piously righteous some years back for his failure to save Africans from slaughter. Now that she sits in the White House, she joins the other organizers and activists who abandon those who share our national commitment to freedom, and embrace those tyrants who are crushing it as best they can.
To this grim gallery of rogues we can properly add Hillary, whose relationship with the president will some day entertain future students of the American presidency. What’s it like for her to get security briefings that are reportedly denied to her Bill, for example? But there is no reason to suspect that she’s any better on the big questions than the president, for whom she lies like the proverbial rug. On her account, we’ve been heroically supporting dissidents in Iran and Syria, for example, even though none of the victims of the bloodthirsty regimes in Tehran and Damascus has seen any help.
Which brings us back to the blind Mr. Chen, who somehow eluded house arrest and got into the American Embassy in Beijing. One wonders just how that happened, and the tyrants who rule China are no doubt wondering too. It’s hard to imagine that the Obama administration had much to do with Chen’s escape; they don’t give a damn about oppressed freedom fighters and dissidents anywhere, let alone the People’s Republic of China. As with Iran, North Korea, and Syria, Obama wants “good relations,” and such regimes won’t give you any if you insist on raising awkward subjects like freedom and democracy.
To be sure, if you play by their rules, you don’t get those good relations anyway. You get contempt, and, in all likelihood, war as well. Churchill said of Chamberlain that he had to choose between war and dishonor, chose dishonor, and got war as well.
Obama and his fellow conspirators should know all this by now, because he’s played by the tyrants’ rules and he’s quite obviously held in contempt by regimes who detest and fear the United States. These evil men know that, regardless of the identity or desires of a given American president, those of their own people who want to live freely will always be inspired by the American example. The tyrants are thankful for Obama, but not for the reasons he had assumed. He thought they’d like him because he is basically sympathetic to their cause. He thinks their complaints about America’s meddling in their affairs are legitimate, and he expected to be able to negotiate a series of deals that would rest on a shared vision of the world.
But that is not why they are grateful that Obama is in the White House. They are thankful for his weakness, and for his fear of supporting pro-American forces at a moment when such support could dramatically and fundamentally change the world.
Look around and you’ll see America’s enemies reaching for the oxygen mask. China faces insurrections in Buddhist Tibet and in the Muslim West, and from the likes of Mr. Chen. Iran’s regime is divided as never before (a few days ago President Ahmadinejad instructed the officials of his government to shred without reading any communications from the speaker of Parliament, a loyalist of the Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei). Meanwhile, attacks against installations of the Revolutionary Guards continue apace, as does the ongoing purge of the officer corps. Chavez is dying. Putin has millions of angry Russians yelling at him. And so it goes.
If America’s president had supported Mr. Chen and others like him, it would have given hope to the freedom fighters everywhere that things may change for the better, because, after all, America is still America.
Obama does not want that message sent. He has other concerns, like dragging American soldiers in front of television cameras at 4 a.m. to serve as extras in his latest political ad.
No wonder America’s enemies are contemptuous of the man and grateful for his weakness and his alienation from American values.
No wonder this moment is so very reminiscent of the last days of Jimmy Carter.
No wonder the war against America is gathering strength.

The only reason some nations “like” the United States right now is because Obama is a joke to them. It’s easy to “like” someone or some nation who does not provide a challenge. The world can’t afford for the United States to be a “loveable loser” in geopolitics.
The war against America is gathering strength…from the inside.
It gathers strength with every movie made in Hollywood that portrays America as crass, greedy, mean and racist.
It gathers strength with every movie that paints American values as impure, our military as oppressive and fascist, our law enforcement as evil and corrupt, our capitalism as sleazy and unworthy.
It gathers strength as every national news bureau distorts the truth about our nation, it inflates the narrative of class warfare, racial warfare, gender warfare and tries to make America a pariah in the One World narrative.
It gathers strength as an ally of Israel, equally demonized, equally distorted, equally slandered.
It gathers strength in academia, which indoctrinates our youth against us…and Israel, through teachings that are false, fraudulent and traitorous to their core.
It gathers strength in the trampling of our Constitution, leaving jackbooted prints on the words of our founders.
It gathers strength in our very Senate, where parliamentary rules are routinely trashed in favor of authoritarian arrogance and complete shirking of responsibility to the American people.
It gathers strength in the seizure of power, money and votes through corruption in the Workers Party and their flanking institutions of fraud, the SEIU/ACORN.
It gathers strength in the NLRB, EPA, DOJ, who routinely overstep their unchecked and unfettered authority to destroy the free market, run guns to drug cartels, radicalize every protective agency…that strips the ability of the people to keep a wall between themselves and an iron-fisted government that is hell bent on forcing them to their knees.
The reason that the totalitarian dictators are pleased is neither of the reasons you postulate, Michael.
It is because they look at America today and see their reflections in its mirror.
If I may be so bold: WOW. Them’s some powerful words, cfbleachers. And I hope to G-d you’re wrong. You probably do, too.
CF,
Do you realize how “loony right-wing” that post is?
“..trampling of our Constitution, leaving jackbooted prints on the words of our founders”
I dont think BIG SIS would be looking for THAT GUY in the Center Field Bleachers, do you?
Heck, even old dead JFK sounds like a Dangerous Right Winger by Hollywood/Obama/academia standards of the last 20 years.
Come on, admit it.
You’re Right Handed…throw and bat….
Its OK man, most people are.
Try buying a glove, or a pair of scissors most anywhere and see what I mean
Good piece Mr. Ledeen, and yes, the betrayal of Mr. Chen is stunning but not unexpected with this administration. This was a typical Clinton move and okayed by Obama. I’m sure the left will be just fine with it.
And the astonishing thing is, My Chen needn’t have been so “betrayed’
if they would have simply left him to his own devices.
It was a US embassy car that picked him up, evaded Chinese followers, and spirited him to the our embassy.
Why?
Why get involved AT ALL?
Quite a huge difference, if you ask me, between publicly tisk-tisking a regime so rotten that a blind man runs toward us for mercy while lamenting our inability to “change the heart of China”, and going out with American Assets to meet, secure, and transport this guy to our Embassy, and THEN throw him back to the regime.
WTF was that?
True, some diplomatic situations are sticky.
You cant save everyone.
But use your head.
If we knew this guy was toast, that he was to be sacrificed for them buying more of our debt and supplying Walmart with the cheapest goods, fine. You can still make the P.R. victory and not get your hands dirty. You can shrug your shoulders and say “yeah, arent the bastards” as you watch them treat one of their own bad.
But you cant do that AFTER YOU’VE SEND AN EMBASSY CAR TO GET HIM AWAY FROM THE REGIME. Once he was in an embassy car, driven by OUR spooks, the game changes. We cant just “blame China” for being dicks, when WE have to now push him out the door, kicking and screaming, after we “rescued him”…..
Yeah, I feel bad for the guy…sucks to be you in Chi-Com land.
You and a billion or so others. Bummer, dude.
But its not my fault your leaders suck.
And I could get away with that sentiment on a diplomatic level, if I didnt rescue you and THEN throw you back.
Because guess who’s the dick, NOW?
Brilliant move, wasnt it?
I guess Mr Chen doesnt look like Obama’s son.
The “anti-imperialist” scholars and pundits who dominate the humanities and the media are unaware that American chosen people were, in the writing of Herman Melville, for one, hardly the bloodthirsty expansionists that they have been painted. I wrote about Melville’s view of American exceptionalism here: http://clarespark.com/2009/09/06/the-hebraic-american-landscape-sublime-or-despotic/. Sadly, several generations of young people are embarrassed by U.S. history, and will do their best to bring their revolutionary country down.
1. The Toll-i-ban probably love Obama. He’s going to hand over Afcrapistan to tthem. Woe to the women, especially the ones going to school and those not wearing a tent.
2. Al Queida in Lybia love him. He helped them come to power after they killed
Quadaffi like a dog.
3. The MuBros and the Salfists in Egypt love him. He helped oust Mubarack which will bring them to power. Woe to the women, they will be relegated to chattel. And, Israel forgetabout that little ole treaty.
4. I’m sure AJ in Iran loves him. BHO refused to help the uprising a few years ago. So they’re still in power and still terrorizing the people. Even holding that minister as an apostate. Oh, well can’t be bothered.
5. The Chinese probably love him. BHO dissed the dissident. And BHO put money in his giant stimulus package that spent money in China. So their economy got stimulated, just not ours.
6. I’m sure the Brazilians and the Mexicans love Obama. He spent money from the EXIM Bank to support their oil industries. You see he wants to be their best customer. But we can’t drill for our own oil.
7. I’m sure that Vladamir really, really loves Barack. He signed that disasterous START Treaty and pulled the missile shield from Europe. And BHO assured them of other sell outs, he just has to wait until after the election.
So with friends like this, who needs enemies?
if I’m a family judge and you’re a party in a divorce case and start reading a list of complaints like this one against your former mate, I would without any hestitation strip you of all your custody rights and give your former partner everything you both owned.
You need to examine yourself. Blaming everything in the world on one person…yeah ok….i’m sure “everybody is wrong” and “you are always right.”
Right…”if” you were a family judge…
But were not talking about imaginary family court, and the arbitrary decisions of a prejudicial judge who,
as you state, only hears one side before shooting the messenger.
So, Your Honor, if possible stick to the facts.
Which of the above mentioned list is:
A – Factually untrue
B – Not a plausable RE-action to Obamas actions.
Yes, I do hold you in contempt.
Case dismissed.
Yeah, according to PattiMor and apparently you, the US should have done its utmost to keep Mubarak in place. I am sorry, but you can take that mentality back with you and maybe say hi to McCarthur on your way there too.
What do you take people, nations and countries to be? A simple PS3 game where you can download your designs without any attention to the wants of the people?
If the Egyptians want The Muslim Brotherhood…that is their choice! There is nothing we should do other than try to work with Muslim Bro. And if they don’t want to work with the US then there will be no relations.
http://clarespark.com/2009/09/06/the-hebraic-american-landscape-sublime-or-despotic/. Why study foreign policy when the answer is foreordained? The US was conceived in sin and continues to beat up the rest of the world. Facts not wanted, nor the notion of American exceptionalism, laid out in the link I left.
So spot on, Doctor Ledeen.
The detritus of “news” floating up, daily, has become too familiar to me, lately, to put much attention on. I’ve been recently grabbed by “The Story of Philosophy”, by Will Durant, his 1926 million sales book—the 1952 edition–, so it’s become impossible to simply “take it”, like a regular fool.
Yes—the essence of the human condition is that way too many people are indeed fools: proof is the presidency of Obama.
How do fools stop being fools?
Ah, I’m reminded of the years when I was involved with real young kids, being peppered by their wondrous questions. Eventually, I settled on saying—
BEATS ME!
Well, duh. Fools DO things, which sooner or later end up biting back on them. The burgeoning obesity “mass movement” is foolishness in heavyweight action, and we are certainly witnessing the crashing bodies, slow motion suicide, which is universally lawful.
Just so, the Obama “revolution” of foolishness is still not even past the beginning of the beginning of the hell we’ll all be paying. Thank you Winston Churchill. When Romney becomes prez, he’s going to be harvesting the results of many years of liberal “obesity”!
Buy gold, and other real survival “ordered goods”, and eschew all the bogus crap still masquerading as valuable.
Mr. Ledeen, your litany of the Obama administration’s foreign policy failures, while vague, is exhaustive. Please tell us, what you would do differently? Tibet and the Uighars (really, you support a Muslim uprising?) are side shows to our relationship with China. This is a country that holds a massive proportion of our debt – most of it Obama’s fault, not all of it. America is no longer, if it ever was, the world’ policeman. We cannot afford it and it is not in our interests. Go ahead a slam Obama all you like – please! – but that makes you responsible for articulating an alternative vision.
Brutus, if you want to opine, have the courage to say what you want to say without kissing up. You live in the US. You should be free to say what you feel.
But your comment, “his is a country that holds a massive proportion of our debt – most of it Obama’s fault, not all of it.”
is not only factually wrong but it stinks of a fear and self- censorship that you follow. WHat exactly are you afraid of ?
Most of the Debt is Obama’s fault??? And they wonder why America’s kids are doing pooorly in math compared to other nations….maybe it’s in the genes…especially when their parents make such unsubstantiated comments
“Most of the Debt is Obama’s fault???”
Yes, its called mathematics.
Obama has spend more money (that we didnt have in the treasury to spend) and thus put us further into debt, than any other US President.
Spent the most money.
Took on the most debt.
He did.
So thats why its “his fault”
Why is that so difficult to get?
“And they wonder why America’s kids are doing pooorly in math”
Not all of them…
Mostly, its the ones with Liberal Arts Degrees, or Affirmative Action / “cherokee” law degrees from places like Harvard who cant count change from a dollar.
Because it was someone ESLES dollar, so the proper change never mattered to them, as long as they “felt good” about how they spent it.
Why do you offshoot conservative rile so much against Harvard and liberal schools. It might do you well to know that Harvard had atleast an admission committee that chose to admit folks like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg.
That in itself is very telling.
PLus I don’t see alot of Harvard kids heading to Cancun and binge drinking. That is reserved for students from state schools. They drink themselves through college, get a poor job placement, get a low salary, blame the politicians for the economy, start listening to Rush Limbaugh…..then (light bulb) they become Christian conservatives…….Hey, Mr Jesus remember your booze drinking and sex infatuated talks back in college.?
I will try to come up with an answer for your question even though Prof. Ledeen could do it better.
Let’s consider the effects of an Obama re-election. His first election could be attributed to a fluke, a silly decision that peoples occasionally make. A re-election would not be a fluke, but a genuine forsaking by Americans of the American political religion, a belief in the inherit nobility and ability of the average man, the only thing that separates the US from every other state in history. We are living proof that elite rulers are not only not needed for a people to achieve happiness and prosperity but are actual impediments. If Obama is r-elected it means that we prefer elites to provide things for us, like in the Obama advertisement “Julia”. This is exactly the argument of would be ruling classes everywhere and for all time. Only in the US has it been repudiated and proven false. Peoples all over the world know that they are being cheated out of their inalienable rights by looking at the US and no dictatorship, no matter how benign like the dictatorships of the bureaucracy in western Europe, is safe because of it. If we formally repudiate our political religion as Lincoln called it, then history becomes again nothing more than a record of the elites despoiling weak peoples for their own good. As Eric Hoffer said, the US is the only new thing in history. Freedom as an option will have proven a historical oddity, a fluke, something no serious thinker can take seriously, because people are really cattle and only want to be fed and cared for.
“They are thankful for his weakness…”
Certainly. Examples of how petty little tinpot delusionals managed to rise to power through other’s indifference and apathy abound.
from Mr. Ledeen on thru the commenters, this piece is full of the truth.
Obama and Shrillary suffer from authenticity syndrome-the more hostile a country is to the US, the more authentic it is. Therefore, Syria, Iran,Russia, N Korea-authentic and need to be pandered to-Honduras, Colombia, Bahrain, Israel-coutries to be dismissed.
The British made the same mistake when the appointed Hajj Amin el Husseini as the Mufti of Jerusalem-he finished 4th in the election, but he was more “authentic”
Herb, do yourself a favor…stay with Yatzkee and enjoy Florida Orange juice during your retirement in Boca Raton.
If you don’t know about international politics, stay out of it.
When was the last time you went overseas?
What in the world does a pin head like you know about Bahrain?
It sounds you are asking the US to look more favorably at Bahrain. Why? Because poor Bahrain government is very democratic. It listens and never brutalizes its people.
Go to your local Boca Raton library and pick an up to date book on Shia & Sunni Islam. Then read on the conflict in Bahrain then let us know what you think

Apparently another al-Qaeda terrorist has been hunted down.
A good thing. Regrettably, of late, we seem to be hunting them down a couple here, and a couple there. Whack-a-Mole style. Not enough.
Excellent as always, Mr. Ledeen. What percentage of the American public do you suppose also hold this Curious George-looking-bufoon and his ilk in contempt? I cannot be alone; there has never been a more un-American, hideously corrupt, and immoral American administration in History. I would put the number at 30% of the populace that just despise these marxists-socialists-communists-Democrats or whatever moniker you would wish to apply to them.
Yes, the supposedly pure-hearted American left has gone AOL in regard to human rights. Maybe it’s because this just isn’t the sainted O’s thing and they know it. If Bush had ignored Syria these same hyper-sensitive apostles of decency would have had a cow. I’m thoroughly sick of these hypocrites. They deserve Obama; the rest of us don’t.
Typo: AWOL.
Excellent article,Dr. Ledeen. The only good aspect of his lunatic foreign policy is that it is not possible for the MSM to conceal his folly and ineptitude as they do his domestic malfeasance. The NYT and its ilk may spring to defend his eagerness to appease and win the “friendship” of those who are dedicated to our destruction, but that inevitably exposes criticism of his performance aand raises doubts in the minds of those not pathologically enthralled.
To any reasoning mind his performance is a revelation of his lack of knowledge of history, of using strength in diplomacy, of absence of true patriotism, of basic common sense. I continue to believe that in this election year, he is his own greatest enemy. The GOP “strategists” don’t appear to understand the advantage gained by keeping the Chicago Cadre on the defensive.
I love Mr Ledeen but believe this article reveals a fundamental misconception he has about obama.
Ledeen seems to believe that obama is a misguided, sniveling, cowardly leader of history’s greatest country.
In reality, obama is the leader of the alliance of criminals and monsters who want to destroy history’s greatest country,
is closer to the truth, but where Ledeen falls short, you go a shade too far. Obama’s no leader, he’s not that smart.
Actually he can be both.
obama’s no leader
1. The Tibetans and Uighurs are China’s problem. Leave China alone.
2. We are going to do a deal with the Iranians after Obama’s re-election. They will then go to breakout status, but stick there. They don’t want the Saudis, Turks, and Egyptians to go nuclear, so they won’t test a bomb.
3. We need to drill for oil, and natural gas. There are technological fixes to global warming. We need to start dumping our nuclear waste into Yucca Mountain, but Harry Read won’t allow it. Romney would.
4. We will raise taxes in the end, because we have bills to pay. Entitlements can be sensibly adjusted. Only after a panic, of course, which is coming.
5. The big problem is the automation of work. The ability to produce is outstripping the ability to consume, as less and less people are required to produce more and more goods and services. This will ultimately lead to a Third Way, beyond conservatism and liberalism, both of which are intellectually bankrupt.
6. Take a walk. Don’t eat too many carbs. Buy gold.
If America does not even speak out in furtherance of its values, it does not desrve the bounty and power that the Creator has granted it.
Luckily most of us don’t think this way.
So I guess the neo-cons really didn’t learn anything from Iraq. Just because something’s bad in the world doesn’t make it an American responsibility. Moreover, American ‘exceptionalism’ is based on its massive, easy to defend, resource rich geography that allows it to dominate the rest of the planet and pursue a strategy of divide and conquer when it sees threats to its interests. There’s nothing ‘exceptional’ about American political culture anymore than there is something ‘exceptional’ about UK, French, or any other well-developed Western democracy. Different, naturally, as cultures are, but certainly not ‘exceptional’ with the implications of superiority. That American foreign policy has succeeded only in maintaining dominance, and not establishing any little Americas anywhere else, should be proof enough that American ‘exceptionalism’ stops at the oceans. (Do I sound like Barack Obama then? Maybe because he was right to point out ‘exceptionalism’ as a neo-con scam?)
so nice to have you with us, Michelle O
You must be quite young. When I was young, during the Cold War, not even all of Western Europe was democratic. The US has been quite successful at changign the paradigm, so that even dictatorships (except the Saudis) have “elections”.
I also suggest you compare the nature of rights in the US and the rest of the West. It isn’t the same at all. (P.S. I don’t live in the US.)
You clearly have zero conception of the meaning of American exceptionalism. The term refers to the fact that we are the only country on earth that began as a nation of free individuals with a constitution codifying the God-given, natural rights of every citizen. It is true that we are moving toward a far less exceptional future – due to the totalitarianists in our government who are so clearly Marxist-Leninists. Know what “Profressive” means? They are an off-shoot of the American Communist Party (Allen West was 100% correct in his analysis). They are advocating for the progression from Capitalism to Fascism (where we are currently) to Socialism and finally, Communism. Communism is nothing but serfdom dressed up for the 21st century.
I got a laugh out of Obama’s newest Communist- inspired slogan, “Forward.”
As all things Communist, it trumpets the exact opposite message than it embodies. I immediately made a t-shirt with a phopt of the prez which is more accurate. It says “backwards.”
Read my reply to 8.Brutus above.
#GenPole
You mean about the great struggle by THE GREAT AND NOBLE ELITE called “neo-conservatives” that is embodied in bringing of the sunshine of FREEDOM into the lives of millions of oppressed people. You know?, they did it “from eastern and central of Europe to the Middle East”.
Dear Sir, if you’re really an true American belongs to that “GREAT NATION”, to the only superpower on the earth. As Syrian, I would like to tell you “today we highly need to such kind of noble scam so that save the lives of millions of innocents who are slaughtering every day at the hands of the wicked tyrants those who despise you and murdering you every single day over the past few decades.”
Sounds like Ron Paul. Only Paul’s more blatant about it, except he now tries to cover up his earlier statements (on tape).
Somethings that never cease to amaze me with all these folks that want to throw this country under the bus and give everything away.
01. If you are so unhappy here why not move to China, Russia, Venezuela, Iran, Syria, North Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan or
any of these other countries that share your view and will allow you to voice your displeasure over the public airways
or internet.
02. I wonder how many have actually read The Declaration of Independence and The U.S. Constitution and have any
understanding of what these documents are saying. I wonder how many can actually read.
03. Finally, after all the money that can be printed is spent, all the taxes have been raised that can be raised, all the
enlightenment from the many Academics and Politicians that have never really worked in the real world has fizzled
and become a dark stain that will never go away – what will all of these gutless politicians and all the others that seek
to bring this country down have to say.
Are Romney and Obama the same on most issues? Try, ALL ISSUES.

All so called Iranian experts are a drop in my bucket of knowledge.
If you bring an Iranian Iran expert, he usually is too focused on human rights in Iran and neglectful of Islamic principles and laws.
If you bring an Islamic Iranian Iran expert, he is usually only aware of Shia issues and lacks a full and comprehensive understanding of Western thinking.
If you bring an Arab Iran expert, he will know about the regional issues and Shia-Sunni matters but lacks an understanding of the Iranian society social fabric and ethnic groups.
If you bring a Western Iran expert, he will not know about issues deep enough to forecast how Iranian leaders might react. For example, he might not understand the feeling involved during the Ashoura- Imam Hussein Martyrdom Celebration.
But all these converge in one person: ME. The ultimate Iranian expert despite my young age. I know 5 languages: Arabic, Farsi, English, Pashtun and Turkey/Azeri fluently
I know the Sunni-Shia conflict and the Hadiths and Wuranic verses used to questify their poistions like the Palm of my hand
I know Iranian society inside out. I know every big and small about Iranian politicians because I monitor many of their newspapers.\
I have accurately predicted Mr Hollande’s win.
I mentioned Shaul Mofaz one week before Nety surprised everyone by scuttling the Israeli elections and asked Mofaz to join him.
I can within a margin of 3 % error describe how the Iranian nuclear negotiations will be like.
I have stated with 100 % certainty that Bashar Assad will remain in his position even though “EXPERTS” have all predicted his fall.
Let’s see who wins.
the only Iranian expert you can to some degree count on is Ali reza Nourizadeh.
But given that he is on Alarabiya.net paylist of commentators- which is funded Al Saud then it become difficult to know whether he is telling the truth or tweaking and spinning things in favor of Persian Gulf Arab Sheikhdoms.
For example, as an Iranian expert he might say that Iran should not help Bahraini protestors. Why? because he is on Al Saud paylist.
However, if he was a non biased expert, he would say that it serves Iran’s interest in helping Bahraini protestors to bring Shias who will be close to Iran to power.
Since you wrote this, Michael, Dick Lugar was defeated in the primary in Indiana.
Step by step to clear out the redundant and dangerous, and to do what ought to be done.
To my old friend Buddy Larsen — still waiting on that J.R. Nyquist predicted nuclear holocaust.
To Mr. Ledeen – listen to your friend David P. Goldman. Don’t be snookered into having NATO back a Muslim Brotherhood takeover of Syria that will warm the hearts of every Soros-backed liberast from London to Media Matters.
Mr. Ledeen — one other major looming embarassment for yourself, Frank Gaffney, James Woolsey et al…something I’ve harped on many a time at Spengler’s forum.
If Romney does get elected and continues on his ‘Russia is our number one geopolitical adversary’ path (provided it’s not all a ruse to justify opening up the oil shale on federal lands in Utah or some such)…the Russians will start leaking details about their technology trade with Israel, including UAVs, nano with military applications, avionics, radars, you name it. It will be a major thing that D.C. will probably stick its head in the sand and refuse to cover, but the Israeli, French and German papers will be all over it. You heard it here first.
And mark my words, if Israel does bomb Iran while using Azeri air space, any dang fool looking at a map will see that the IAF’s flight path crossed the Gabala radar’s search envelope. Which means the Israelis will have to come up with some lame cock and bull story about how a few F-16s of theirs blinded a radar designed to peer into outer space. No doubt some of you folks will buy that, but no one will be buying that at the Pentagon. Doubtless post-Iran bombing when oil hits $150 a barrel we can count on the hardcore liberasts like Edward Lucas over at the Economist to suggest an Israeli-Russian conspiracy against the poor Iranians all along, and Putin getting the Israelis to keep his prime competitor for the European energy market offline. Just remember you heard it here first. Russophobes are pretty damn predictable, after all.
