This afternoon I spoke to a rally in New York organized by Beth Gilinsky’s Action Alliance. The big crowd, despite miserable weather, filled the sidewalk on Second Avenue between 42nd and 43rd streets. Lots of terrific speakers spoke passionately about the need to support Israel against the shocking treatment from American leaders. Here are my prepared remarks:
We are at war. It’s a global war. It extends from Pakistan and Afghanistan to India, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon, and from there towards Israel and then down to Egypt, Sudan and Somalia, and west to Europe and ultimately to America. It targets Canada and Australia, Honduras and Colombia, and all those who challenge fanatical intolerance and instead advocate freedom. It is a continuation of the ancient war of tyranny against freedom, a war that will endure so long as freedom threatens the power and legitimacy of monarchs and dictators.
That war — a war of awesome dimensions, a war with a long and bloody history — is not the consequence of this or that unpopular policy but above all of beliefs we are not even supposed to pronounce nowadays: the crazed visions of Muslim extremists who are waging jihad against us. And the beliefs of radical secular extremists who share the goals of jihad.
That war is being waged by people who hate America and Israel, as they hate Christians, Jews, Hindus and Buddhists, and those many Muslims who want to live in peace.
What? Did you forget that the Taliban destroyed statues of Buddha? Does anybody believe that they would have been spared if there were peace between Israel and the Palestinian Authority?
Yet there are those — people in positions of great prestige and power, some in government, some in the press, some in the universities — who insist that all would be well if only Prime Minister Netanyahu told a few Jews they can’t live in a certain neighborhood of Jerusalem. That Israel’s enemies — who are also OUR enemies — would scrap their global jihad if only there were one more Arab country in the Middle East.
To demonstrate their conviction that Israel is the problem, these people treat Israel’s enemies — who are also OUR enemies — with greater respect than they showed Israelis. Prime Minister Netanyahu is treated as an unwelcome guest at the White House while radical Islamists are constantly asked, very politely, to be reasonable and to become our friends.
Sometimes they even receive a bow.
This is folly. It is morally corrupt and strategically misguided. Consider the case of Iran, the world’s leading sponsor of terrorists. The Islamic Republic of Iran declared war on the United States in 1979, and has waged war against us for 31 years. Iranian-supported terrorists, alongside Iranian military personnel, are killing American soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan today, at the same time that they are organizing lethal assaults against Israeli civilians and military personnel. Even today Hezbollah is receiving new rockets and missiles, new intelligence assessments, new supplies of ammunition, directly from Iran. And yet, in all these years, the United States has never directly challenged Iran, never made that dreadful regime pay an appropriate price for the murders it has committed and supported.

We are preaching to the choir here. We need nationwide demonstrations to drive home the point. We need our Jewish leadership to lead and not be cowed. I know that if we demonstrate that our Christian brothers and sisters will join us. If we show the nation how we stand, it will stand with us. Let’s just do it!
I agree that massive demonstrations would be helpful. How to awaken the sleeping masses, this is the challenge. And with the media in the pocket of the left, we face enormous battles every day. And face them we must, and we do. But I agree that a large scale rally would speak volumes.

who profess Islam. He is naive to think as he does. His naivete makes him
unable to fulfill the duties of his office, which is to support and defend the
Constitution of the United States and to protect it from all enemies, foreign
and domestic. And his Secretary of State, who knows better, caves in.

Hard to believe that over 20 years ago, my US Squadron was trained by Israelis on their land prior to Desert Shield build up. They stood by us and trained us how to fight the Desert fight and if we remember properly, it was their air to ground support training that helped American pilots and ground troops end Desert Storm so quickly. Kol ha kavod. I was among the 2000 in the drizzle for almost three worthwhile hours. During the presidential campaign, with 75% of Jews voting for Obama, I began to think something was wrong with my rationale in concluding that as weak as the Republican platform was, given Obama’s experience and rhetoric, voting Dem. was the only choice. I wish i had been wrong, for Israel and for the democratic world.

I would like, with your indulgence, to bring to your attention one minor editorial miscue. In the fifth paragraph from the end of your speech, in which you discuss the disproportionate alarm associated with the vanishingly small militia movement in the United States, you write: ” . . . the miniscule and marginal militia movement . . . ” In this sentence, “miniscule” should be “minuscule.” It’s a common mistake, especially when you consider the prefix “mini-.”
The only reason I mention it is that I’m having a realy bad day and just had to take it out on someone. Just kidding. I really want you, out there on the front lines against some formidable enemies, to be as letter-perfect as you can be. Keep up the good fight, Mr. Ledeen.

Bernie, yes, I totally agree with you that a big part from these countries belongs to Jews and that they should return to them “Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon”. But as Oscar said we don’t have to go back that far, because this will cause a horrible chaos in geographical global system which would lead to destabilization of the International Security. But Israel should demand compensations from Saudi Arabia and most Moslem countries in addition to adopting a restitution program for Jewish private property seized during World War II by Poles and most of European countries, specifically “Germany, Poland, Russia, Austria, Ukraine, Lithuania and Latvia” maybe some still paying compensation to Jews.

As long as the Prophet Moses was the human instrument in the creation of the nation of Israel by communicated to it the Torah, and the patriarch Abraham and his sons (Patriarchs Isaac and Jacob) attributed as Patriarchs of the Hebrew people and lived in that region, and then God changed Jacob’s name to Israel. The inability of American reporters to understand basic issues related to Islamists is amazing. Case in point is this new terrorist F. Shahzad. Incapable reporters are trying to justify these terrorists’ actions with typical nonsense. Generally speaking any young man from Pakistan, India, SA, Yemen, and other Persian Gulf states, who has lived in US for many years and still has a Taliban Style Beard must be suspicious. That means he has not been able to move beyond backward Islamist ideas period. The people live in those countries, obviously have been raised with Islamic values, and some have become radicalized and Islamists. Moreover, the reason that the guy lived in an apartment with not much furniture is not a sign of being poor and therefore caused him to act as a terrorist. No, he planed his actions very carefully and for a long time. Including quitting his job, foreclosing his house, taking his family (most probably by force and against the wishes of his wife) to Pakistan, and getting trained in terrorists’ camps. Somebody must tell the dummies, all signs are indications of a careful planning. As it is the case with all Muslim radicals (Suni or Shi’it) and obvious by the actions of those radical governments like Islamic Regime in Iran, Hamas, Taliban, the whole world must become Muslim, otherwise they deserve to be killed.
